Obviously it's Jory.

What's the story behind Anders again? I remember reading somewhere it was a name he picked up from the Tower since he was from the Anderfels, but I can't remember if that's fanon or confirmed by Gaider.

No more information than that it's a nickname because his family (not necessarily him specifically, mind you) is from the Anderfels.

Hmm, does anyone know how he ended up in the Ferelden Circle if his family is from the Anderfels? I apologize for not being an avid codex reader... ><

They could of moved to Ferelden and he was born. The codex doesn't actually say his family was from the Anderfels either. That came from Gaider.

With any luck, it'll be Roderick Ponce Von Fontlebottom. And then they'll do another voice actor change to John Cleese.

The whole name situation intrigues me, but not because I want to know what his real name is. I'm more intrested in the story behind his nickname (I know it's a reference to the fact he is from the Anderfelds), like why he chose to go by Anders instead of his real name or why people gave him a nickname instead of calling him by his real name.

Nope, no information.

I personally take it that he was born in Ferelden or came over as a very small child. Generally one says that their family is from a country if their parents or other ancestors emigrated prior to one's birth, but says that they are from a certain country if the individual themself made the journey. But that's just speculation on my part.

I wish they would release more details on him, if only to make my own knowledge of him complete. I doubt my Hawke would necessarily care about the same info as I do, but there are some things I would want to know before inviting someone fully into my life.
As for the name, I can imagine Hawke hanging around his clinic one day, ****ing about how no one ever uses her first name, it's not like she's the only member of her family, and what, does she look like a parrot or something?, before Anders pipes up that no one uses his name either, and what does it matter?
And Hawke just gives him this long "buuuuh?" look.

"...You thought Anders was my actual name."
"Well. Um. Yes?"
"My parents weren't that cruel."
"Oh. Well. What is it, then?"
"You think I'm telling you now? Oh no, not after you didn't even think about it for four years."
"Fine. Don't tell me. Frederick."
"Frederick?"
"Klaus, then."
"Klaus?"
"If you won't tell me I'll have to come up with my own. Sorry, Jörg."
"Now I'm really not telling you."
"... Bugger."

  My Hawke would do the same thing.  But she would threaten to start calling him something much worse (like Jorg) until he finally gave in and told her.  And she would willingly trade her own secrets in return, something Awakening Anders would have been intrigued by.

Hawke: Pleeeeease tell me!
Anders: Nope
Hawke: I'm going to keep assuming its Jorg until you tell me
Anders: You don't scare me.
Hawke: ::pouts:: Okay, let's trade a secret then!
Anders: For a rogue, you are the most non-secretive person I know.  What secret could you possibly trade?
Hawke: I'll tell you about the time I did something naughty in the Chantry
Anders: ...what kind of naughty?
Hawke: The best kind.
Anders: Okay, you have a deal!

I imagine the nick name thing is because he was a kid with a foreign name who showed up late when most of the other kids had already known each other for some time. Kids aren't nice or clever. They like picking up on the outsider-ness.

Am I the only one who takes great pleasure in the bickering between Fenris and Anders?  Their hatred is hot, I am such a sick individual.... :(

Don't worry you're not alone. I have a whole alternate universe in my head where Anders and Fenris are having a secret hatelove affair that  no one knows about.

I really don't know why i totally do its all the sexy sexy hatesex that would go on I find the concept of Fenders so damn hot, but I do.

*ahem* I saw some art of Fenris and Anders and it's beautiful... perfect even.
Me, the player, finds it super hot.
My canon mages are exasperated and keep going "you two WILL be the death of me!".  LOL.
Too bad those two are not very good at sharing.  I don't think any of my canon Hawkettes would go for it, but I'd make a different Hawke just to romance BOTH at the same time cause... it's hot.  But, I cannot.  Breaking hearts is not what I do despite the awesome banter if you go Fenris and then Anders... I just cannot.

We should be glad it's "Anders" and not "Pee-Pants" or something.

Haha. I never have that emotional of characters. I think I would get too tired. :3

If Fenris and Anders have to be in the same room, Hawke just makes sure Varric and/or Isabela is around so he can have help distracting them. Anders mostly. Fenris will pick, but mostly once Anders has picked at him.

Hehehe.  My canon characters are always very passionate people.  Perhaps modelled somewhat after me.
And then I have time to play around, be evil, be funny, be aloof, all sorts of variations.  But the canons are always passionate and intense.  They'd give Anders a run for his money in that department, hahaha.  It's just interesting to me and makes for a long of angsty fanfic potential!

Hah!

Indeed. So's Anders, I bet. You think a nickname like your place of origin is difficult to get rid of, you should see one about your unfortunate bladder!

To be fair, you're not really breaking hearts if you hop from Fenris to Anders. No sane person really expects someone else to hang around pining for them for three years after a single night of sex and no conversations about it afterwards. Fenris certainly doesn't seem like the type of person who'd expect it from others, even while doing it himself.
I guess if you're a big believer in fate and what's "meant to be" and all that jazz, but really? Naaaaah.

Oh, I don't know, the not-emotional characters can do angst, too.

It's just a much more ... subtle sort, maybe. Or more the "keep a stiff upper lip, m8" sort. I always liked the contrst between a snarky, somewhat ruthless realist Hawke and Anders' emotional, idealistic, heart on the cuff of his sleeve, terrible at lying self.

Also, shameless pimpage of her Vengeance concept art, because hot diggity damn, people.

I'd have had this up earlier, but I got sidetracked by Marble Hornets. Curse you, ARG of Win. Curse yooooou.

That was me.  Thank you, thank you.  Now how in the nine hells did you find it???
edit:  Ooooh, aaaah, concept art.  Intrigued by the pencil art, scared by pointy teeth! :D

someone I forget who wrote:
I honestly don't know how a person can be with another person for 6
years (living with him for 3) and not have the opportunity to
familiarize with each other. Real names included. Reminds me of that
show in ID Discovery, "Who the bleep did I marry?"

Yes.  Anders seems to want closeness and support, but he withholds quite a bit from Hawke.  Like the bomb and his name.  I want to know his name, BioWare!  Curiosity just kills!  Why do you torment me?

Anders that we don't know, and may never know, makes me kinda crazy. I

knew them. And that drives me INSANE.

This.  You feel my pain.

*takes a bow*  Frusterbate.  New word.  I'll also be adding angsterbate, conflicterbate, shamesterbate, and hatesterbate to our lexicon.

As for the whole Anders' secrets thing, my Hawke can be a pretty closed-off person herself.  She's a LOT like Fenris, which is why they have the whole vitriolic best buds thing going on.  It's kind of sweet to have Anders' open, emotional gentleness as a foil to her.  But she does warm up around him.

Ahh, I kind of fail to believe a man growling "I will kill you if you hurt her" has no feelings for Hawke.
I cannot listen to that, I'd rather Fenris never falls for Lorelei, who goes for Anders... and have a separate canon mage for Fenris.  I still feel sad that Anders loves Hawke no matter what, it saddens me to see his jealousy so aparent and... for Hawke to be with someone he hates so.  Alas, Fenris cannot be resisted, even if for once I have two canons for a damn game.  Crazyness.
*ahem* Back to the silly discussion at hand... I wish they'd share so naughty completely lacking a serious bone in her body Hawkette could have a threesome with the two of them.  And completely ignore any talk of relationships, moving in or any such nonsense.
Instead, I got a warrior Hawke who beds elf prostitutes and pretends they're Merrill... and I guess that's as frivolous as my Hawkettes are bound to get.
Unless I make a mage that sleeps with Isabella and then moves on to someone else.  Cause, you know, she's a side dish and even jealous Anders doesn't mind :P

I am so going to drag Seb to the Blooming Rose, even if it means holding off on bedding Merrill until Seb is a companion and can be dragged there, muahahaha.
