I have a question.
Isn't there a choice in Awakening to let the templars take Anders...therefore NOT making him a Grey Warden?
Can someone who played the game recently tell me if you have a choice to make him a Warden?

It's just handwaved that some other warden recruited him later.

The handwaving makes me giggle. Especially Nate and Anders' lines if Anders 'died'.

The best part is that he would totally fake his own death. I wouldn't be surprised if he used that trick a few times to escape the tower.

But apparently it's really important to some people that he died and stayed dead.
Lucky for them, if you kill him now he's actually really and truly dead.

Don't worry, he has an identical twin brother who will return and seamlessly assume his identity.

I just had a funny convo with my BF as he was leaving for work.
He was like, "Why do you like Anders so much? I'm more of a Merrill fan."
My answer? "Anders does it better?"
"Does what better?"
"Everything."
"Like?"
"......Everything."

Then he just rolled his eyes and left. Hahahah

BFs just don't get it. Mine goes all "just a game" whenever I want to talk about anything DAO/DA2 related <_<:P

That is absolutely the best.  I love how Anders pulls the "So you're saying all mages look alike?!" card.  I died laughing.

I kinda wish that they'd let him live. Always. Forever.

He'd just ... want to die. And they'd keep retconning his death. I'd lol forever. Anders would be, like, the most miserable running joke ever.

That would be cruel and unusual. Deservedly so, arguably, but cruel.

I approve.

I can understand that, actually.
If you keep retconning characters' deaths, then those deaths lose any emotional impact they may have had. And if you're the one responsible for the death(s) in question, it ceases to become a hard decision. There's no finality to it.
Not that I want to lose Anders -quite the opposite, in fact- but I can see where the argument for permanent death comes from.

Hello, Zevran/Leliana/Anders fake-death.
They don't even TRY to explain those.

Hawke: Wait...I heard the Warden killed you?
Leliana: Oh no. I WAS dead, but the Maker came down and touched me with his pinky finger, and I came alive again. I am heere for his Divine Purpose and I serve only Him.
Hawke: Wait....what?

Anders: I thought the Warden killed you Zevran.
Zevran: .....What? I was still staring at how luscious your dear Hawke's muscles look in that armor.
Anders: You. Dead. You're supposed to be...dead.
Zevran: Did you say something about tying me up?

I understand it too, but it seems they resurrected Leliana (and Zevran? Though that may be a glitch?).  At least Anders has the excuse of being damn near unkillable from his short story.  He took a sword through the heart without batting an eye, but I guess no one can withstand the wily, wily ways of the Murder Knife.

I wonder if that will ever be addressed?  Why couldn't he die then?

@Ashwraith: That's true. Then again I think the problem was partly the epilogue cards. I'm not coffeed enough right now to explain why, but, I blame them, and people getting attached to them, which is understandable for Origins consider those vary the most based on your choices but it's still just text and projecting into a future that is subject to change etc etc.

If they never return I will be happy. I'd rather have an abrupt cliffhanger ending than epilogue cards.

Zevran is dead-dead, that was an import bug. Nothing's been explained about Leliana, but I imagine it will be in DA3 or whatever since she seems to be pretty significant.

I hope so.
Because I am so confused.

Did anyone import a save where they romanced Leliana? Does she mention the Warden at all?
Because I know Zevran won't sleep with Isabela in DA2 if you romanced him, then died. He says the "wounds are too fresh" and he's "still in mourning".

Grr, now I can't stop thinking about WHY Hawke's dinky Murder Knife could kill Anders when a big old templar sword couldn't.

Anders: Sure, stab me in the back, see if I care.  I took a sword right through the heart you know--
Hawke: ::stab::
Anders: ::glurgh:: Oh my god!  I'm dying for real!  What the hell kinda knife is this?!
Hawke: It's coated in Plot Poison
Anders: Noooo, my only weakness! ::dies::

Leliana could have easily escaped Lothering, and her other death occurs in a Magical Mystical Mountain/Place Of Healing Holiness. *waves hand* Done!

@Kawamura It would be the best thing ever if DA3 opens on Anders' body.

Anders:
*eyelids flutter open, and he rolls over onto his back*
Anders: *stares at smoke-filled sky while hearing the sounds of abominations and templars fighting in the distance*
Anders: Oh, **** me.
Anders: I really should have told Hawke to use a sword this time
