I don't know, his expression when you kill him wasn't just sad, it looked like he was terrified. I'm wondering if he truly wants to die but Justice won't let him.

Heh. I thought the Templar sword didn't kill him because he was in Vengeance mode when he was stabbed. Whereas he's just in plain old Anders mode when Hawke murder-knifes him.

However, I like the plot poison theory better.

Or could be that Anders doesn't want to but Vengeance thinks he must.

I've let him live each time so far since none of my current Hawke's are particularly vengeful.

So, replaying my canonHawke and this is the very first convo I get in Act 3:

Aveline: I have to admit, Anders. Of the mages I know, you're the one I expected to go out in a blaze.
Anders: The day is young.
Aveline: It was a compliment, you ass.
Anders: No, it wasn't.

Oh BW, they do love their foreshadowing. It was just as we walked away from the Chantry, too. Seriously though, I was like, don't give him ideas Aveline.

Heh, I haven't gotten through that part without knifing Anders. Granted, the only games I've gotten that far are two replays of the same character who would have done just that.

I'm with Upsettingshorts on this.  Only playthrough where tormented terrorist boy got to live was the one with my selfish, nasty blood mage who didn't care about others at all.  I nerdagonized over this.  Damn you, stupid Anders! Damn you, writers!  My next Anders/Hawke romance will end with Anders alive, but shipped off to a mental health facility.  I love him to bits as much as the next rabid fangirl, but he needs more mental help than Hawk's twoo wub can provide.  She will, of course, visit him all the time and bring him pie and kittens until he and Justice get better.
