So, like mustache-twirling evil? I don't even know how anyone can come up with that. At all. I realize that fanfic is where people go to turn the characters they're given into the characters they want them to be, but making him a straight up villain depletes him of all his delicious nuance.

I suppose if they never took the time to actually converse with Anders or listen to what he says people can easily misconstrue him into this one dimensional prig whose only purpose is there to be grumpy and snap at everything. Especially if the player romanced someone like Fenris or Merrill and you get that wonderful sewer confrontation.

Crate Anders is not happy.

OKAY LMFAO.
What is Jethann doing with his hands when you agree to sleep with him? Hawke just walked over to him and he was opening and closing his hands...kind of like he was warming up for some gripping action, or trying to beckon Hawke. I have no clue, but it made me seriously lulz.

I love that guy. Even more so since I hear he's got the same VA as maleShep. I'd have played a maleShepard with that voice.Image IPB

wait wut?

I'm going to have to go back and talk to him again now, since I'm still in act 1. I need to hear this with my own ears.

Off-screen is a cafe table with a laptop on it and he's just hitting F5 every couple of minutes, praying that the kink meme comes up and that someone will have filled that Anders/Pounce reunion fluff he's requested, like, a hundred times.

This is so weirdly nerdishly cute ;-;

Yeah, but even my husband who romanced Merrill and rarely took Anders with him considered Anders a friend by the end. He called Anders a jerk almost the entire game and told him to leave after the bombing, but still. That's why he spared him in the end. He might not have liked Anders but he didn't see him as a villain.

It warmed my heart to hear my husband call him a friend, lol.

It's not exactly that. But it gets a little too close to villian than the more anti-hero-y place I peg him in.

That's the thing with Thedas.  There are very, very few characters who fall cleanly into the villain category, and I like it that way.  Thedas seems to have more Well-Intentioned Extremists than anything else--Loghain, Anders, Meredith, etc.  There are only a few characters who are really monstrous, and most of them aren't human or sentient.

I really don't see Anders as a bad guy. Desperate and broken, oh yeah, but just plain evil? never. He is so tragic, it makes my heart hurt.

Wow, I somehow bumped into those no spoiler allowed forums and got pretty much broken down by all the threads filled with so much hatred. I'm speechless. It's better not to go there if I have anything that I like in DA2.

Image IPB

Right, anders. Some of arguments in those forums are "ridiculous, spineless, mind-controlled and senseless".

I don't know. I see Anders the same way I see Loghain. Blind stubborn and foolish.

I like Anders (unlike Loghain) but still. They both make me wanna strangle them and yell "STFU".

Hrmm yes, only character that I can recall is Howe.

And it's oddly disturbing how Anders really parallels Meredith, but still, I wouldn't necessarily put him in the same category as her.

I'd add Alrik and Quentin to the list of truly monstrous people.

And I dunno...both Meredith and Anders have good intentions.  Even Anders himself admits it.  And both of them end up doing crazypants things that are more destructive than helpful in the pursuit of those goals.  Seriously, the tagline for the DA franchise should be, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Howe's horribleness probably has more to do with the fact we never actually see what his motivations are than anything. Judging by how reluctant Nathaniel was to believe his father actually did what he did, there was probably more to it that was just never explored.

I don't see Meredith having a good intention after she gets her lyrium-lightsaber. She just diggs for power to control the whole city and wants to annule the Circle from the beginning of the Act III. Though I agree that Alrik and Quentin are much worse than Meredith. They are just insane.

My husband and I joke that the moral of DA2 is to not help anyone, ever. Helping your friends means bombs, murder, blackmail, etc.

For PC gamers:
I'm gifting myself with a laptop in a few months and I think I may use it to try out PC gaming. My current laptop has slowed considerably, even though it's only a year and a half old. Took it to this computer place and they quoted me 600! AND I'll lose all of my memory...I guess it overheated at some point or some BS like that.

Anyway, what brand do you recommend, and do you often have to deal with lags and such?
Pros and cons? Just looking for a bit of input...even though I know it's totally OT.

Well Nate does gets to understand who is father might have been through Awakening.  Especially afer missing his sister.  I dont think there is motivation nuances like lets say for Loghain.

Ser Alrik also a pretty bad is bad kind of character.

Man your pic is distracting!

If you are not a person who needs to move around often, I recommend using desktop for gaming. Desktop is just much cheaper and doesn't get overheated much.

On the side note, I'm glad that this thread is one of the fastest moving thread in DA2 forums. I'll never get bored.

Edit: What the person above said. Your best bet is a desktop unless you absolutely have to have a laptop.

Damn.

Personally I suggest Asus. Mine was about 1200. It lags horribly in Very High (well horrible to me anyways) but is very smooth at 60+ FPS on High. I'm pretty sure it's because of the stupid AMD drivers.

60+ FPS AMD drivers?
I don't even....I'm so lost.
This is why I've avoided PC gaming until now.

Yeah, but that's the idol exacerbating her insanity.  She does appear to be well-intentioned at least through Act 2.

Though really, Alrik is the worst.  A lobotomizing, cold-blooded rapist who openly abuses his authority and takes pleasure in his own inhumanity.  Can't count now how many times I've replayed Dissent just so I can slit that bastard's throat.
