60+ FPS AMD drivers?
I don't even....I'm so lost.
This is why I've avoided PC gaming until now.

You'll get the hang of it quickly. FPS was the frame per second.

AMD drivers meant my video card drivers. (Latest drivers suck by the way. Ugh. Had to use Driver Sweeper again because the game kept freezing during the High Dragon battle).

Oh and make sure if you do get a laptop you do not get anything with intergrated video cards. It won't run ****. You'll be pissed.

If the word intel is in regards to anything other than the processor. Do not get it.

If you are not a person who needs to move around often, I recommend using desktop for gaming. Desktop is just much cheaper and doesn't get overheated much.

On the side note, I'm glad that this thread is one of the fastest moving thread in DA2 forums. I'll never get bored.

I would have to agree with this, get a desktop if possible. Mine was built from the ground up for the specific purpose of gaming because I'm that sad (former hardcore WoW raider here) and it has yet to disappoint. In fact I've been toying with the idea of getting a new graphics card.

For PC gamers:
I'm gifting myself with a laptop in a few months and I think I may use it to try out PC gaming. My current laptop has slowed considerably, even though it's only a year and a half old. Took it to this computer place and they quoted me 600! AND I'll lose all of my memory...I guess it overheated at some point or some BS like that.

Anyway, what brand do you recommend, and do you often have to deal with lags and such?
Pros and cons? Just looking for a bit of input...even though I know it's totally OT.

If you're going to do PC gaming, you can custom build a desktop and buy a separate netbook for the same price as a "gaming" laptop with vastly better performance. A 900 dollar PC built from Newegg would probably run you 1700+ dollars for a laptop that comes even close.

If you're wanting to stick with a laptop, maybe check out http://www.notebookc...-News.48.0.html for info, especially with regard to graphics capabilities. They have a benchmark list for pretty much every conceivable notebook graphics chip, which can help narrow your search. Brand wise I don't really know, I've heard horror stories about pretty much every company out there, but my better half works IT and all the guys he's spoken to swear by Dell. Pinch of salt and all that.

I hate gaming on my laptop though. I find the key placement to be awkward and weird, and desktops are a lot more flexible for upgrading and troubleshooting, in my experience. >.<

So the main consensus is desktop is better than laptop for PC gaming?
I guess that makes sense...I tried to play the demo on this laptop and seriously couldn't do anything, it was lagging so terribly. Another reason I avoided PC gaming.

Damn.

Personally I suggest Asus. Mine was about 1200. It lags horribly in Very High (well horrible to me anyways) but is very smooth at 60+ FPS on High. I'm pretty sure it's because of the stupid AMD drivers.

My laptop was limited edition, store-only version of its model. It's a year old now but it runs smoothly with all recent 3D games with highest options. It's made for gaming purpose, so no wonder LOL
It's rather funny that my laptop runs in the highest options smoothly in the sims medieval and Assassin's creed: Brotherhood but it lags a bit if I play DA2 in the highest options usually in Sundermount and in Bone pit(outdoor). This just explains that DA2 needs some optimization works.

Very much so. If you want a portable device, just get a cheap netbook as a peripheral to your desktop.

It's a really, really good idea to build your desktops yourself, as well. It seriously costs about half as much as buying any equivalent pre-built rig, and it's pretty simple to do if you have Google and the ability to follow directions.

Yes, desktops are def. better for gaming, a LOT cheaper too. As far as laptops go, anything but emachines(do they even make laptops?) or gateway(terrible quality, you'll be replacing stuff way too often)

He's staring into my soul....:?

BTW, it seems like I'm going to have to do A LOT of research before attempting to build a PC.
I just read a simple guide to building one and my brain is fried already.

Excerpt:

To start designing your own custom gaming PC, you need

to make a few basic decisions. The first decision you have
to make

is whether you want an Intel Quad or Core Duo CPU, or an AMD
Phenom or Athlon 64 X2 system. Basically, both processor families have
good performance and you should compare price to performance when
making your buying decision.

Advice on building a rig from scratch:

-Make doubly sure your RAM is compatible with your motherboard
-If you want something with more 3 gig RAM, go for a 64-bit Windows OS (if you plan to use Windows)
-Make sure you have proper wattage
-Make sure you have adequate cooling (a good heat sink)/a good case for air flow

But yeah I'd totally go for building your own desktop over anything else.

Bribe your techy savvy friends to help out! I feel blessed that most of my friends have some sort of career that's related to PCs or gaming. Any computer problem I have is fixed nearly immediately while I sit in a corner and offer drinks to feel like I'm helping out.

I just played through the part after you Anders in the fade in Night Terrors and talk to him. What he says there about Justice trapped as an unwilling passenger to his decisions outside the Fade reminded me of this Arcade Fire song, My Body is a Cage
