They've lost everything they cared about by the end of Act 2.

I'm not sure how suicidal my Hawkes could be since they all were unknowing and ignorant, just blustering into Kirkwall like some natural disaster because "we're just trying to survive!"

My snarky Hawkes (because I can't play anything else!) always spiral into this mean streak towards the end of Act 2. I even took the RP a little too far and had one of them spec into blood magic to get amp up the emoness.

This could also justify my mage siding with the templars. He wanted Meredith to skewer him afterwards .Stupid Cullen got in the way.

My main Hawke is pretty resiliant. It sucks that Bethany is with the Grey Wardens and hates her, but she had no choice and at least she's not dead. It sucks that Leandra died, and ohmakersodramatic, but she can mourn her and move on. Of course, she thinks that Leandra was never going to fully heal after Carver's death and Bethany becoming a Warden.

Anders getting crazier is the worst thing happening to her in Act 3, but even then she's committed herself to be there for him and she gets as much healthy social interactions from her other friends as she can. 

I think the ending is actually...good for her. Yeah, she's scared ****less and she feels terrible when she realizes what Anders was keeping to himself and what he must have been feeling to do what he did, but it's movement. As long as the stalemate existed, she was stuck in a holding pattern, trying to be as diplomatic as she can and never really quite sure where her place really was. On the run with Anders, she knows exactly where her place is and...yeah. I think her biggest regret is dragging Aveline down with her.
