I am in the group that doesn't quite get the appeal of Cullen. Or, I can see why others might like him, but I just don't.

As for three favorite LIs, definitely Anders, Alistair, and Garrus. Alistair because he was funny and sweet. Anders because... gah, everything. Garrus, because it's a healthy yet super badass relationship. Plus, it feels so good to escape to that stability after everything in DA2.

I don't know which of those three would be my favorite. In real life, a relationship like the one with Garrus is definitely the most appealing. In a fictional world though, I cannot deny the emotional oomph that is the Andersmance. That... and Anders is so very hot.

There is that!

I feel bad sometimes that Alistair has been so thoroughly displaced for my affections. I really loved romancing him, especially with my broken, skanky Cousland who had no interest in him until he responded so well to her smartassery, but...Anders. He had me at existing in the Awakening trailer.

I was re-playing Origins last night. Poor Alistair is now too normal for my tastes. How sad is THAT?!

I kinda feel the same way. I used to love Zevran, but after having romanced Anders and Fenris... he just doesn't compare. AT ALL.

8D hahaha so it's ridiculous that some people argues that romances in Origins are better written than that of DA2.
I'm totally all over for the victory of DA2 romances.

The LI will die because you sleep with them.
After the most tender and romantic love scene Bioware will ever create, the LI will die. In your arms.

The only way to save them is to not initiate a romance.

Happy endings aren't possible for LIs in Bioware games. It's just a fact of life.

Either someone dies, someone betrays you, or you have to make horrible, world destroying decisions in the name of love... And between my Warden and Hawke, Thedas is ****ed.

Not sad at all! I stopped being able to romance him like a normal person within three months of Origins being out  (8 playthroughs romancing anyone will do that to you). It wasn't until I decided to play it away less romantic that it finally clicked for me.

And, because I was thinking about my intial thoughts on Awakening, I dug up some things I posted just after it came out.

I wrote...
Finally, Anders. I love him and I hope that he and Sir Pounce-a-lot come back (but I won't hold my breath or anything).

Sandtigress: SurelyForth, I am so in love with everything that comes out of Anders' mouth....I mean, really.
SurelyForth: And he loves cats! And he gets upset about things that result in the deaths of others! And funny!

Ah, so innocent.

I'm really not so concerned about the LI dying, I'd be less surprised if the hero died/disappeared without a trace.

I think I only liked Zev so much because he was the gay romance option, something which I had never come accross in any other game.

But looking back, to me Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair were better characters, with more interesting romances. Not to mention the DA2 LIs of course.

I always fell for Alistair's goofy charm, but I did like Zev's romance a lot, too. It was like I broke his sexy shell to reveal something even sexier if that's even possible.

Umm... I didn't romance anyone else but Alistair in Origins. I tried but I never really finished those playthroughs in which I attempted to romance others.

All my Wardens own Alistair... except for my male Dalish Warrior. He was my mix things up a little character. He thought he was the hottest thing alive and ended up with Morrigan.

Unfortunately I got the Leliana bug where she thought I was cheating on her with Morrigan.

I came around to this way of thinking, eventually, but I still like Alistair better as a character.

If I'm being honest, Morrigan's romance was the one that effected me most in DAO. I romanced her with a Mahariel who was just so laid back about almost everything in the world, but then he had this doomed affair going with the gorgeous witch who always knew that she'd have to leave him and...yes. Awesome. I then did the unthinkable and decided he'd want to stay in this world with Sigrun rather than chase Morrigan and their son through the Eluvian, but I still love their story.

Now that I think about it, Morrigan/Mahariel is a pretty great parallel to my Hawke and Anders, only with Anders it's inevitable heartbreak instead of abandonment. Still, the doomed affair and the witchy part stands.

I actually stopped playing Awakenings and didn't finish it for a long time because I was pissed I couldn't cheat on Alistair with the sexy mage. Why did Bioware put the sexy mage in the game if I couldn't make a pass at it???

Yeah I know how that is.  Alistair, as a whole, is still one of my favorite characters in the DA verse.  Morrigan, too.  Zevran and Leliana, to me, were not as integral to the story and felt like side dishes perhaps?

I romanced Alistair with female Cousland (not knowing that she could become queen eventually!) and I loved the story of these two orphaned Grey Wardens sticking together 'til the end, and then becoming a pair of leaders after all their hard work and sacrifice (of course, my Warden had to make a hard decision about Morrigan's ritual -- Alistair was the only family she had left and she was going crazy in order to keep him).  I romanced Morrigan with a male Amell, and I felt like he learned a whole new aspect of himself (and magic) from her, and was totally Anti-Circle by the end (of course, he ran off with her into the Eluvian because, hey it might be fun!).  He was very sad to see her go (at least for a little while), but I feel like mages more than anyone have to be used to people coming in and out of their lives.

Of course I felt like both of these paled in comparison to my Anders romance, because sheesh, they were together for a solid three years.  That's a lot of time to get to know someone and be head-over-heels in love with them.
