I am confused, I was just playing DA 2 (again) and While on my way to the house in high town we got ambushed by random thugs #45 and he had Vengeance active, but I didn't give it to him and it wasn't on his bar! I am so confused....did I miss something. Hawke was close to dying is this just something I always missed or did he bug?

Edit: Also he can cast anything he wants too...maybe I triggered his god mode?

after the Dissent quest I think the game gives it to him automatically. If you had him set as damager maybe he activated it through tactics, unless you set custom ones then I don't know. Or maybe he had it active still from the end of the Dissent quest if this is just after it.

Haven't done that quest yet and he set to supporter at the moment.  He doesn't have vengeance period...it's weird.

I never play as myself in games. It's always a character I created, and they always have some crazy in them to keep it interesting. It just wouldn't make sense to play as myself because nothing would be in-character. There's no "stay out of this and let the pros take care of it" option. xD

Ashwraith wrote...

If your characters are anything at all like mine, they are probably desperately trying to pawn you off at this very moment.

My characters tend to have horrible pasts, but always get a happy ending. They deal with it.

Yeah, really. I prefer to play a separate person from myself. Makes it easier to step away and be like "Yeah, this isn't me," especially when it comes to issues of sexuality and romance. Hell, in real life I wouldn't date any of the crazy people in DA, regardless of gender except Varric. I guess my version of wish-fullfillment is playing an interesting character who I like, as opposed to just... myself. If I were truly playing myself I'd have never made it out of Lothering anyway, haha.

I don't rp as myself ever (weird), but in a game where you can customize, I do try to make a character I can connect with well.  The more I can do that, the more I can empathize with her story and the other characters.  It pulls me in more.  There aren't many games where you can do that as opposed to play a set character.

Yeah, I don't mean that I make characters totally unlike myself. Usually a likeable character to me has a similar moral compass, but their actions, looks, preferences, etc. don't always coincide with what I would do (or think I would in the extreme situations they get placed in). I just don't go into a game thinking that my character is a carbon copy of me placed in Thedas or wherever and have them act exactly like me or go out with the people only I would go out with or get offended when a character of the same sex hits on me because I am so not a gay, etc etc.

That especially plays out well in the cutscene after you kill Quentin. Your character has their back turned and takes their sweet time retrieving their dagger (I've only played rogue up to that point) and turning around, and it really gives me the feeling that Hawke is putting off the moment of looking at their mother so they can keep pretending it isn't real.

I know.  I think this was more true for my warrior Hawke than my rogue Hawke.  Rogue Hawke was just... pissed.  Warrior Hawke blamed himself.

Still trying to figure out how sarcastic mage Hawke will react.  She'll probably have a complete mental break down. x__x

not sure then... have you done the one in the fade? He always activates it there whether he has it or not and it doesn't go away after that until you de-activate it? that's the only other thing I can think of.

I don't really play myself in games, though I think my decisions are tempered by my personality on my first playthrough when I don't know what's coming up. But on subsequent playthroughs I think they're a lot less like me.

I fixed it apparently he bugs with elemental weapons up and you save and quit the game, it won't enchant your weapons but Anders, hence the vengeance look it was kinda funny with a fire staff

That's funny. The first time Anders activated Vengeance mode with me, it was more or less the same thing. Came completely out of the blue.
The only thing I can think of is that I must have hit it accidentally. Although... now that you mention it, my Hawke was near death, too.
If this is a bug, it is an awesome one.
"YOU'RE HURTING MY HAWKE RRRRRRRAAAAAGH"

...also, that screenshot is incredibly badass. If I saw that coming at me down a dark alleyway, I would just give up the ghost right there. No lie.

I did notice that I was consciously roleplaying a lot more in DA2 than Origins. My canon warden felt a lot more like "me" than my Hawkes. Perhaps it's the voice? I mean, my warden still is not me by a long shot, but I think she was easier to project onto or something, I dunno.

My sarcastic Hawke went full tilt into OH GOD WAAAAAAAAH IT IS ALL MY FAAAAAAAULT and became Crabby Hawke for a while. Even after the time skip, if someone so much as mentioned Bethany, she would go all RAAR ANGRY HAWKE on their asses. Pretty much the only thing that saved the mages (and Anders) that playthrough was wanting to protect Bethany, otherwise she would've been more like "OK THAT DOES IT MAGES CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS" probably. So when it came time to murderknife Anders, she was more like "screw it, I've thrown in with them anyway, what's a little 'let the terrorist live' added in?"

No **** right? I would like "You all on your own **** this ****"

Turns out it is a elemental weapon but if you quit the game with it active on him, it enchants Anders and not the weapons. It triggers a Vengeance like state and he glows the color of the element lol

Same here.  Of course, it helped that in personality, my Warden is more similar to me to begin with.

My Hawke is probably the character who is least similar to me.  In most ways, she's my polar opposite, and she's something of a Villain Protagonist by the end.  It was a challenge going against my usual RP instincts, but so much incredible funsies.

The voice is definitely distancing for me, as is the set character.  There's less room to make it your own.

Anyway, Anders... I got nuthin.  Oh, I thought the smirk and the little look he exchanges with Fenris when Isabela goes off with Zevran was cute.  It's one moment where you see them not fighting, just being guys.

Haha I would totally wear that Alistair shirt but only in private for fear of being jumped in public. I feel sad for my own lack of media centric clothing. I have a Halo Reach hoodie, a boba fett shirt and another one with a tusken raider on it but that's it.
Everything else is just a plain solid color shirt, since those are hard enough to come by anymore too. Image IPB

Guys, I have a question, do you know if the talk where Anders asks you to distract Elthina is bugged?

Because he, with maxed out rivalry, gave my pro-Templar Hawke same speech he gives to friends "If you really support freedom for mages, you will do this, or does your support end at the Chantry door", etc.

My Hawke was like O_o "When did I EVER support freedom for mages?"

I wonder if there was supposed to be something else for rivals?

It might be, a lot of that dialog is bugged at the moment.  I am not sure sorry.

Actually I'm enjoying my Hawke #3 who's uh, rather "direct" and an "order above all" Templar supporter type. Which is totally the opposite of my gut inclinations.

I love taking Seb on that quest. He just storms off in a huff when you get to the chantry and the small change in dialogue at the end of the game.

Yeah my templar Hawke who rivalmanced Anders is my favourite playthrough, probably. I still haven;t finished it though; too heartbreaking plus all the bugs, ugh >_<

Yeah I've put that one on hold til it gets patched. I need the terribly depressing version of that rivalmance.
