I think her words were more like whether we should call someone like Anders (who is possessed but still maintains his humanity) an abomination or not. I can be wrong though, it's been a while since I heard of her.

I'm kind of torn over the whole separating Justice from Anders issue. On the one hand, the side of me that likes fluffy bunny (uh, figuratively, no actual rabbits involved) romances with happy endings would probably lap it up if it was presented as a viable option. On the other, the side of me that cares about plot and character development and all that jazz would probably be a bit more cynical. I can only imagine Anders supporting it on a rivalry path, and even if the separation was feasible it'd still leave Anders as basically a shell of who he once was who'd probably still be wishing for death.

Then the fluffy bunny side goes "lalala I can't hear you Anders and Hawke run away together and adopt a dozen kittens" and all pretence of being a deep and thoughtful person is lost.

For me the answer is: it depends.

It depends on how developed and in-depth is the presented option. I'd hate for it to be a cheap escamotage à la "zap! Now Anders is whole." However, if the option would involve something meaningful and fascinating - maybe something along the lines of Morrigan's dark ritual -, I think I'd like it. It should be appropriate and dangerous, and filled with drama and mystery. It should be something both sinister and eerie. If it is so, I'd probably like it. And a lot.

I can only imagine Anders supporting it on a rivalry path, and even if the separation was feasible it'd still leave Anders as basically a shell of who he once was who'd probably still be wishing for death.
 

Actually, I can see it more on the friendship path, because of that line "I won't loose you, to the Templars or Justice" (or something to that effect). I think that my Hawke would embark in the quest to regain Anders' humanity no matter how difficult or perilous because he won't loose him to Justice.

I'm somewhat suprised Justice didn't demand that Anders marry Hawke prior to sex or something, (as is "proper") but I guess I'm thinking of another virtue.

Then again, the whole "distraction" thing probably works against that

I think people's opinions of Vengeance/Justice are colored by whether or not they agree with a bloody revolution. And there is a reason we have to make that decision before we find out that Meredith was crazy and had to be stopped one way or another. Everyone who thinks there could have been a peaceful solution before learning about her madness must surely admit that the 'peaceful solution' involved removing her.

Have you guys read the codex on the former Viscount? Meredith killed him when he proved to be a tyrant, but not before he tried to get the templars thrown out of Kirkwall. I have to be honest, I don't think the idol made her insane as much as it aggravated her condition beyond what any reasonable person could handle.

I didn't get that line on the rivalry path and I thought it was something specifically related to the friendship path.

I'm a sucker for romances that end in tragedy.

I've seen this scenario posted on LJ: there is a ritual to separate Justice and Anders but it would wipe Anders's memories.
*shudder* I hope Hawke never has to make that choice.

That's actually a very good point. I think I see it more on the rivalry path because there's a clearer distinction between what Justice wants and what Anders wants while the friendship path seems more content with what he's done and is prepared to die for it. I think either path could work, though, and I agree that if it was available I'd want it to at least be a bit more open-ended and difficult than 'click this to de-Justice Anders'.

On the other hand, all this is probably moot point as I'd be surprised if we ever actually got  the option. I suppose it is what would best suit everyone though - those that really want it can write fix-it fanfiction to varying degrees of plausibility, and those that would rather have the unhappy ending have what is pretty strongly implied in game.
