Wow. Never thought about it before, but Anders really did get messed up... All Circle-mages did in a way.
I still remember how bitter Jowan was when talking about his mother. And then there was that girl who prayed for her magic to be taken away. I felt sorry for her, being made to hate what she is.
And, well... my Surana and Amell got really messed up. (Why was Amell sent to Fereldan, anyway?)
I always felt that at some point or other, somebody was going to do something to cause the major templar vs. mage battle. It was only a matter of time.
If Anders hadn't blown up the Chantry when he did, and they continued their little farce of a "peace" (not quite a farce, more like a burning fuse nearing its end) who's to say Meredith wouldn't have sunk further into madness and taken the law into her own hands?
Perhaps she'd see Elthina's neutrality as siding with the mages, or being thrall to blood-magic. What's to stop her storming the Chantry and murdering everybody inside if she thinks it's been infiltrated by blood-mages?
I mean, she saw them EVERYWHERE, and she was just as crazy as Anders. Maybe slightly more so.
(Which is funny really, because the one mage (Hawke) she semi-trusts is not only an apostate, but a maleficar! XD)
Kirkwall is one big mess, and if Anders didn't blow it up, I would have! Sheesh. (Alright, so I'm exaggerating...)
Maybe the mages can find allies with certain other Chantry-oppressed groups. Like the Dalish? (Unlikely) And the Wardens could always use more recruits, if things get desperate.
Regardless, somewhere in the world, one particular Warden is facepalming. So. Damn. Hard. (Why did he/she bother saving Thedas, again?)
Yeah but...but...couldn't we have sent anonymous, taunting letters to Meredith claiming that was what the Grand Cleric was doing, goading her into stepping over the line and giving us the excuse instead of blowing up the whole damned Chantry? At least if Anders had been honest about his plan I could have proposed the alternative, though perhaps Justice wouldn't have wanted him to lie...oh, wait.
