But he aided and abetted the guy that killed your Mom.

As opposed to the real LIs who:

A) Accidentally murder their entire clan. (I love Merril, but my Warden is going to KILL her.)

Blow up Chantries. (In an epic dramatic fashion )

C) Rip people's hearts out of their chests because he can't control his temper (again, pretty awesome:devil:)

D) Backstab you and run off with stolen goods. ¬¬ (Actually... Isabela's pretty tame and normal in comparison...)

None of those involve your Mom.

Also:

A) They attacked first;
Totally Elthina's fault;
C) With the possible exception of his sister, pretty much everyone who got fisted deserved it;
D) Eh, she's a pirate...what are you going to do?

I think Orsino was just trying to protect the mages in the Circle.
He didn't exactly aid the man, but he didn't expose them because he didn't want Meredith to have more ammunition against mages. A huge mistake on his part, but one that was made with a group of people's interest in mind.

It's not like he HELPED the man. That would be different.
