Still, I'm glad you agree with me. The background stuff should've definitely been worked into the foreground as you said
Seriously. If you don't pay attention to every little detail, you don't get the whole picture. Let's say you don't have Seb's DLC. You know nothing about the Exalted March. Let's say Ser Kerras died in your playthrough/you don't listen to the ambient dialogue. You don't know that Meredith calls for the Right BEFORE Anders goes crazysauce.
Uh...BioWare? These things are kind of important to know. They change so much about Act 3.

I don't know if they could really do even more "seriously, the mages, they are not all fluffy oppressed kittens," either.

Hey, I had no idea Meredith called for the right before the crazysauce and I'm a completionist when it comes to RPGs. I only found out on the forums.Sable Rhapsody wrote...

I like the ambient dialogue, but not when it means you miss stuff like this.

I feel like they didn't emphasise how bad things were getting for mages because people kneejerk sympathize with them anyway, what with our western FREEDOM GUD values and lack of being threatened by anything as scary as an out of control mage. If they made it even more obvious how crap things were for mages, the choice at the end would be even less of a choice than it already is for most people. Siding with the templars would always be the "evil" choice, and they don't want that.

The mages are all a bunch of Ser Pounce-A-Lots and Mr. Wiggums!!

I'd also like to say that Tranquility does seem to be reversible. Looking at Karl, he regains what was lost, temporarily. So if mages did more research into it, they might uncover something.
Karl recovers himself because Justice comes out in Anders - and since Justice is a fade spirit, he's brought a piece of the fade into the real world. So if Anders could somehow keep Justice out all the time, without Justice going all "Rarrr, let's eat me some Templars" tranquility would be reversable. Good for Karl, not so good for everyone else, unfortunately.

Yeah, I found that fascinating, actually. Made me wonder what they could do if they really looked in to it. Or, if Anders could do more if he gained more control of Justice.

See, this is the annoying thing about gameplay vs. story segregation. Story-wise, abominations are these terrifying monstrosities who can kill dozens of people and require a band of elite templars to put them down. That's all fine and dandy.
Gameplay-wise? They're a dime a dozen. Merrill makes frowny faces at them, and they fall over. When I think of something deadly enough to kill 70 people on a rampage, I don't think of abominations. I think of elite bosses like the varrateral or the High Dragon. If gameplay wise, abominations were rarer but much more lethal, I think things would make a lot more sense.

I know the whole scenario of how it happened and everything lol. But you never know, maybe there could be a way. I mean, no one in Thedas knows everything about the Fade and magic.
If I were to make a real world example, decades ago people thought Space Travel was impossible, despite all the well-written stories and theories regarding it. Well, they were proven wrong. More or less the same thing here.

I'm not sure it is. Karl says that the reason he regained some of himself was because Anders was basically radiating the Fade because of his merging with Justice. I don't know if you've read His Dark Materials, but I tend to see it a bit like when daemons and humans are separated - that connection (to the Fade in Dragon Age's case) is irrevocably broken, regardless of any temporary relief you may be able to give.

It's not a spell thing, it's a keeps knocking me back thing. At any rate, I get what you're saying, but it's not just abominations. It's mages all on their own. And I have no problems thinking "this isn't a problem for me and my friends, because we're either trained fighters or mages ourselves, ordinary people do not have this option," personally.
Fair enough. Mages are still broken in DA2 anyway, and with me always having 2-3 mages in my part at all times...yeah. DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH LUNCH....DEATH DEATH DEATH.
