Then thank the Creators I go Dalish.

I can't take the Maker seriously even as a fictional Diety, he's like a child who got bored with a project, got pissed when it didn't go his way, abandoned it to play COD, and only got interested in it again when a nice rack started singing his praises. Then he came...I leave you to finish that yourself.

I mean the Greek Pantheon was all kinds of FUBAR, but at least they cared about the world and people to an extent.

I like Andraste, even if she's been dressed up a lot, she seems a respectable Historical figure.

I don't like the Maker.

I LOATHE the Chantry. (Most of them. Elthina and Leliana I can respect, but the neutrality was annoying Elthina! (not that my Hawke is one to talk. She did the same thing until Anders finally blew the place sky high.))

The Maker is a bit of a petulant pugnacious ******.

And for all the parallels that get drawn between Jesus and Andraste...Jesus never marched at the head of an army and slaughtered people.  Just saying, I think he was probably a lot more chill of a dude.

haven't you heard? The Maker only shows his favor to the ladies. Andraste, Leliana's miraculous revival. All the guys are in for a world of hurt when they die. The ladies, they get some of that Maker Image IPB

I feel like they didn't emphasise how bad things were getting for mages because people kneejerk sympathize with them anyway, what with our western FREEDOM GUD values and lack of being threatened by anything as scary as an out of control mage. If they made it even more obvious how crap things were for mages, the choice at the end would be even less of a choice than it already is for most people. Siding with the templars would always be the "evil" choice, and they don't want that.

I don't know if they could really do even more "seriously, the mages, they are not all fluffy oppressed kittens," either.

While this is true in part, my husband didn't play origins but finished DA2 and he couldn't understand why anyone would side with the mages. He said that to him the game repeatedly hit you over the head with how bad they were, how they always turned to blood magic that every mage you met turned into a demon or summoned demons. He couldn't side with the mages, he said, even though he had some sympathy with their plight, as the game taught him that mages were bad and at the end with the chantry Jenga moment,  he just thought - that's it I'm fed up with you damn mages and sided with the templars.

Cared enough to rape those people from time to time. :? I'm just sayin', lol.

And yeah, Andraste has a little Jesus influence to her, but imo she's got more Richard Coeur de Lion-style going for her than anything.

"You will believe in the maker or else," lol.

'Cause he's Bacchus.

(Or Dionysus, I suppose, but I had to actually look up how to spell that. :?)

I think Morrigan was spot on calling him 'an absentee father figure'. Which makes me parallel all the folk going around being good just so "the Maker will smile upon them" to illigitimate children desperately trying to get dads attention :pinched: Do those stories ever turn out well?

I find his hissy fits pretty Old Testament God, personally. "Oh, some mages broke into heaven, I will punish the ENTIRE WORLD WITH BLIGHTS," is totally an OT God overreaction if I ever saw one.

Which I suppose I haven't.

But go with me here.

Oh, I was fine with that, it was action finally in a long line of inaction, that truly pissed me off. Even Old Testament God wasn't that complacent, he was vengeful and full of righteous anger, but that didn't stop him from bringing his hand from the Heaven's and declaring "I AM." He got involved. Compared to the Maker he was DIAMONDS.

Now I want to correlate all notable dwarves to the Greek Pantheon.

  • Dwarf Noble Male - Zeus
  • Bhelen - Ares
  • Caridin - Hephaestus
  • Dwarf researcher from GoA - Hades
  • Varric (at first I thought should be Zeus because of the Chest hair, but then where's that put my DN?) - Apollo? Didn't Apollo have a bow?
Let's keep this going!

I'm going to make a thread talking about the Dwarves as the Greek gods. Should that go in the off topic section or Dragon Age section?

LOL.  I forgot about that line of Morrigan's.

That was basically my Hawke's attitude.  Elthina and the Chantry sisters were like "The Maker smiles on you!"  And she was like, psht, whatever.  She's a mage; she knows about things like the Fade and the Black City.  But why should she care two bits for the Maker when he pouts in a corner and doesn't do a damn thing?

Go with the Norse Gods:
Byggvir
- Companion God of Freyr. The God
of ale/beer and corn, Byggvir is married to Beyla. He is Freyr's
servant and lives at Freyr's farm Alfheim. His task is to take care
of the world-mill and its grist.

The World-mill is buggered then! XD

I think Zev would make a good Dionysus.
Drinking wine (though I always pictured him more for whiskey for some reason...), throwing parties, hosting orgies at said parties...

"He was depicted in art as either an older bearded god or a pretty, effeminate, long-haired youth."

Hmm, stuff seems to be going a little off-track, so here is Anders and Ser Pounce!

Cue adorableness. Sorry, I have no idea how to embed DevArt pictures into posts.

Also, some slightly tenuous, but nonetheless epic song suggestions for the playlist:

Letters from the Sky by Civil Twilight

Gravity by Embassy

^_^

Edit: Fixed link!
