Justice: Not starting a flame war is a cruel injustice! You must take action against these people!

Dude, you better not ****** off Justice. You might come home to see Anders playing Jenga with your house.Image IPB

Hmm, received this comment on my latest deviantArt poll: What gender/path did you romance Anders on?

I'm sorry to say that I do not imagine Anders as being bisexual. Try as I may, he was too much of a skirt chaser in Awakenings. Writing him as being bi just for the sake of it was stupid and out of character in my opinion, so now, I can't imagine him as romancing my male Hawke...it ain't gonna happen.

Pondering a response. Suggestions?

"To each their own"?
Honestly, I can't think of a response to this beyond "...That doesn't mean he can't find men attractive too, you know". I mean, I prefer het myself, but I have absolutely no trouble seeing Anders as bisexual.
Maybe he was afraid he'd get an arrow through the eye/fist in the gut/vacant, uncomprehending stare if he hit on the male companions.
Maybe Bioware didn't want to ****** off the 'overly defensive straight male' portion of their audience.
Maybe it just never occurred to him to bring it up.

Maybe he likes ladies more, but doesn't pass up the guys, like Zevran in DA:O.  Orientation isn't a dial with three settings, gay/bi/straight.  It's a continuum.  You don't have to find men and women equally attractive if you self-identify as bi.  Or maybe he's mostly straight plus Karl and m!Hawke.  Doesn't he say something about not caring what package love comes in if romancing a male Hawk?

Or maybe he's full-on bi or pansexual, but as explained above, women are statistically more approachable if you're a dude.  I personally don't give it much thought, since it's the connection between two people that makes my heart skip a beat, not wondering what random passer-bys light up Anders' lamppost.

I can see why someone would be bothered from a story continuity standpoint though.  However, the only slight continuity problem I see is the Oghren / Anders convo where Oghren says "Ooooh, scary templar man!  What are you going to do with that sword!" and breaks poor Anders.  If Anders is bi, this is likely a rejection of all things templar, and not aversion to another guy's sword.

edit:
There's an Isabela wears pants mod?  I need this!  I frequently pause in battle, scroll the view, and there's Isabela's nearly naked ass flying through the air.  I don't want to see her butt if I'm not romancing her.  (Why do we NOT get to see her butt when romancing her?)  Want to see pants on Isabela, and hear pants from Anders.

@payroo I think he and Isabela make the most sense as canonically bi-sexual characters. His views on sexuality were formed in the Circle where everybody was kissing everybody and circumstances made his attachments to anyone more complicated and more compelling. The fact that he doesn't share this in Awakening is hardly surprising, considering he has some awareness that Circle Normal is not Real World Normal.

Then there's that whole "in a strange military-esque order that might not look to kindly on ANY of his views" thing. It's not surprising that he's not more open then while in DA2 he's just a guy with some maps who has nothing left to lose.

Considering trying to hit on a homophobic straight-male is a bit risky, and that Anders isn't really fond of physical fights (verbal wars, yes) hitting on women is safer and easier. And expected, really.

Or maybe he only recently came out of the closet.

He does tell MHawke that Karl was his first, doesn't he? And that they hadn't been together for very long. There may be a good chance that he hadn't yet explored that side of his sexuality in Awakening, even if it was something he was interested in.
I always figured he met Karl after he'd arrived in Kirkwall, since I wouldn't imagine a relationship lasting from before he became a Grey Warden right up until Hawke's second year in Kirkwall being described as the two not being together long.

Also as Jennifer Epler has said somewhere the act of letting Justice in is has intimate as it gets. If he lets a "male" entity enter him... there is a good chance he would not be put off by having sex with a man.

Who cares about sexuality anymore, anyway?
I know a straight girl in a lesbian relationship. (Because of the person, not because she's a girl. it happens.)

I want to see Nathaniel and Velanna together.

Also, since you liked my Dwarves as Greek Gods thread idea, I'm trying to get Stanley Woo to lift the lockdown on it or allow the creation of a duplicate thread, because he said I compared them with no explanation. Then I said:

Well, Caridin can rightly be compared to Hephaestus for both being smiths of unparalleled skill, revered by people.

Bhelen to Ares for being ruthless beyond comprehension

Rica to Aphrodite because Aphrodite and Ares were lovers

Dwarf Noble to Zeus because, well with the romance with Morrigan and the Dwarf Lady who has your child, it seems akin to tales of Zeus, whereas the OGB fits in with Zeus' tales of unwanted children with women he had passionate escapades with.

I could go on more, but had I included all this would it still be considered spam? In my opinion I don't think so, but that's why I'm asking you.

only reason I said the "but.... " at the end is because if he says it's still spam, there's no point in me trying again. It'll just get locked again and I don't know what else might happen.

I always thought Oghren meant sword euphemistically, considering his "polishing my weapon"  banter with Alistair.  Maybe in Oghren's case, sword takes on the worst possible meaning given the context.  Oh dear.  Poor Anders.

See, I thought he meant a literal sword.

That should obviously be brought up to the writers. *Snerk*

I just don't see Velanna letting a human that close, and honestly as much as I like crash, ****y, and sometimes naive Velanna, Nathaniel could do better, like my Surana, or my Avvar (only if Bioware had kept the barbarian origin:crying:)

When Anders talks about how Justice comes out when he sees things that used to outrage him and couldn't do anything.  I got this over whelming feeling Justice is trying to protect Anders in a sense.  When Anders is at the edge he comes out, almost like the blood is on me not you. I could be overly reading into it...

This!  Velanna can outgrow her racism and grow a heart, yes.  A relationship with a good man like Nate would be very good for her.   But that never happens in my game since I have stabbed her to death repeatedly.  B*TCH CAN'T HAVE HIM, NATE IS MIIINE!  I mean the Warden's.

Morrigan was a b!tch too! And people end up swooning swooping for her, despite it being bad.

Velanna's b!tchiness at the world is justified considering what people have done to the Dalish. Morrigan was a b*tch from the get-go. Plus Velanna likes Nathaniel.

I find quoting the whole Nate banter with the "Not when I'm naked" flirty line is usually an effective response. There's nothing explicit in Awakening about Anders' sexuality, but the moment that banter triggered my gaydar went off. And honestly, I like him better with m!Hawke. Oh, or you could just post a picture:

Quoting from a few pages back since I'm still trying to get caught up, but YES! That line was what pinged my gaydar along with his whole "I'm scared, hold me!" to my dude warden AND his insistence that I escort him when he needed to do his #1 and 2.

That's a good point, but then if it was Justice who convinced Anders to take such drastic measures, then why should Anders pay for it? Perhaps as repayment? As a way to set Justice free? It's all very...sad, really. Anders went into it all figuring Hawke would kill him, and when s/he doesn't, Justice can't be free and Anders must live with innocent blood on his hands.

Excuse me...I'm going to cry now. :crying:
