Hey, as long as its believable and written well I have no problem suspending belief of the magical and natural laws of a fantasy world. Besides, some of the best fan fiction I have ever had the pleasure of reading came out by those means.

Deep down though, Velanna does have a softer side. She didn't care if the Joining killed her. She wanted to find her sister. She ends up liking some humans by Awakening's end. Really, she's not all that different from Morrigan in terms of the b*tchiness : soft girlie ratio.

I took his wording to mean that they weren't a couple for very long, not that they hadn't been a couple for a long time. Hence my confusion.

I thought it was kind of funny how Anders claims he can't have a conversation with Justice.
Because pft, what, you've never talked to yourself before? I do it all the time. I get into arguments with myself. Often, it ends with telling myself to sit down and shut up.
If anything, I think it'd be even easier if there really was a seperate entity in my head, rather than some small internal voice of reason.

That's probably the best interpretation of it, you're both right. The dialogue does make it seem more recent to me, but the timeline doesn't really allow for it unless you squint.

Ooooh, you know what?  That could be another interesting note of Anders's character.  We already know he's compassionate and emotional and cares very deeply for people (even if he did seem to be more flippant in Awakening, I'm of the belief that it was mostly a ruse).  Even if he and Karl had been over for a long time, he just feels so deeply that he can't help but make it seem more recent.  If that makes any sense.  My brain is mushy tonight.

Perhaps, it seemed like Velanna was trying too hard to me. I looooove b*tchy female characters, Miranda, Petrice, Anora, Morrigan, they all entertained me with their awesome, but Velanna just made me eyeroll.

I don't think they were together in Kirkwall - if nothing else, the logistics of arranging assignations would be nightmarish - but I can see how the verb tense choice might be interpreted that way.

Also "had" is past tense. He is saying they were together in the past.
