Hm not really. My rivalry Hawke believes some mages are better off outside the circle. And believes some templars are self-absorbed douchebags. But most of the mages you meet are dangerous and haven't proven themselves deserving of leaving the circle in his view.

Pretty easy to get Anders' rivalry up then.

As for falling in love with Anders he admires Anders' passion for mage freedom even if he doesn't agree with it. Anders also has his back in many battles and well they fell into each other from there.

Then of course is my Hawke's a jerk to anyone that's not in his circle.

Very protective of Beth and Anders. That's the only reason he'll side with the mages at the end (well that and Meredith blaming the Circle for Anders' actions. He's a douche but he's not going to kill a bunch of innocents for something someone else did).

At least I don't have to make someone completely different from him to get full rivalry. That's what I was worried about. I have a character in mind (actually a templar who wants to change the system from within), but I'm not sure how well it would work in practice.

I have a problem, not sure if this has already been addressed elsewhere, but... I friend-romanced Anders and told him I loved him and agreed to have him move in with me... But he's nowhere to be found in the mansion. Also, he's at 100% friend and his outfit still hasn't changed. Did I do something wrong or do I need to wait longer? I'm still in Act 2, it's just after mother Hawke was killed.

He moves in Act 3.

His clothes will change after the Justice quest in Act 3 as well.

Seriously, I was soooo nice and understanding to Seb in my first playthrough and he STILL buggered off to raise an army against Kirkwall, a city which I AM NOT EVEN THE VISCOUNT OF YOU TWIT. I lost all respect for him at the end of the game. Scottish, tight arsed, git. Take your sexy accent and your big blue eyes and aquiline nose and VOW OF CELIBACY and stuff it.

Heh. I liked Sebastian, and respected that he wouldn't back down when you refuse to execute Anders. I mean, Anders has just murdered the Revered Mother and everyone else in the Chantry, and you have to remember that Sebastian is/was a brother there--he probably knew just about everyone in those walls, friends and family, in some way it's no different to how Alistair feels about Loghain and his 'murder' of the Grey Wardens, except you and Sebastian get to see the smoking crater and the mage who blasted it into the ground first-hand.

Nothing against a guy who won't stand with a murderer. And like Sebastian says, if one YOUR friends or family had been in there, would it have changed your decision to spare Anders?

As for raising an army...personally I think it's one of those passionate claims that sounds cool, but he'll probably never be able to pull off. :P Sebastian can be a bit dramatic.

Just ot of curiosity : Do you prefer to romance Anders with a male or female Hawke?

Personally, I like romancing him more with a male character. I don't know why.

Male Hawke for me too. I played through with M!Hawke with the intention of eventually starting a femhawke. But...Male Hawke is just so...sexy. I can't resist. HIs voice is <3.

I prefer male Hawke, I like the few male specific lines a lot more and there aren't very many games you get to play a gay character (much less in a game where homosexuality is handled just as well as heterosexuality and gay guys are not just there for lulz).

But that's the beauty of this game, our characters are free to choose and be with whoever they fancy (aside from Varric :(:crying:), and I really love BioWare for doing that.

And yeah, Boulton's wonderful voice has totally spoiled me xD Though I am playing female Hawke right now and making googly eyes at Isabela <3

I always pair female Hawkes with male characters, and male Hawkes with female characters. Same with my Shepards/Wardens/any other game where romance is possible. So Anders gets FemHawkes from me. :)

With male Hawke. There's something about his and Anders' dynamic that enthralls me. It doesn't hurt that Anders also opens up more when he's around him. He talks about his past experiences, love life, and even some of his Awakening personality resurfaces.

I prefer romancing him with femhawke. I don't have a reason, I just do.

The only disappointment I had was that Anders doesn't mention that Karl was his lover with femhawke. It makes me kinda bummed and just want to play as malehawke to get that little tidbit of info.

Far as I know he never mentions it to a female Hawke is because it never happened if Hawke was a female. His sexuality is subjective to the gender you are playing.

His evil, crazy smirk at the end is...eerily adorable. D:

M!Hawke! I'm quite stuck on my Hawke/Anders right now. I'm probably going to go through another playthrough of them and try this rivalmance out...then do another one where he's nice...and then finally get around to romancing the other characters. But any ways, I'm a queer dude--so, I prefer m!Hawke/Anders.

I'm replaying my f!mage!Hawke right now, but after that, there's a male rogue waiting in the wings -- and I suspect he'll be going for Anders, too. Possibly after a bit of a fling with Fenris first. ;)

I'm honestly torn between male and female Hawke for Anders ;-; on the one hand, I <3 my snarky Hawkette apostate, full of rah, rah! death to the templars! But on the other I like the idea of my planned (not yet played) manlyHawke warrior being over-protective of Bethany, Merrill and Anders... ;-; I'm just not sure if that'll end up being romance or bromance T^T

Hmm, I like romancing him as femHawke. It's nice to play as my actual gender instead of being stuck as a guy.

I did watch vids of the m. Hawke & Anders romance though. I found Karl's death sad enough as a female, but ouch - I think it's even more poignant when you're romancing Anders as a male and find out that Karl was Ander's first lover. Poor Anders, killing his first major sweetie. :(

I have to say, for all the rivalmance is sexy and gorgeous, I actually think it does more harm to Anders than good. Because he still goes ahead with the attack on the Chantry, nothing you say to him is going to change his mind, all that happens is that Justice starts disagreeing with him and he ends up closer to madness. Sure, this is all fine if you honestly think he's wrong, but I don't. So I'm happy enough on the friendship path. And he still recognises that a lot of what he's doing is crazy (that line about "another of his delusions" breaks my heart) but at least he isn't losing control of his body periodically.

So I don't think I'll be rivaling him. Not just because I can't stand the thought of sending mages to the circle. God no. My canon Hawke (whom I'm busily writing fic about) is a hardnosed **** witch who'll do just about anything to free the mages from the circle. It's lucky Anders got to the chantry first, because she would have fireballed it herself if he hadn't.

Miri, I'm really glad I read this because for awhile I was feeling like the only person in existance who decided to forgive him/semi condone his actions post end-game. I haven't perused this thread as often as I should (now beginning my third canon Hawke because the ending keeps bugging in different spots!), so maybe my "Anders did what he thought he had to do" stance is more common than I've come to believe. But it seemed like everyone else was ready to hoist him from the nearest tree except me, so it's nice to know I'm not entirely alone.

Has it been discussed what everyone thinks will happen to him in future installments? I desperately want the story to pick up where it left off, with my apostate Hawke and Anders, but that seems very unlikely.

Heh, right now I am playing an aggressive warrior lady Hawke, and she's not quite friends with Anders. In the convo where Anders first tells you about Justice she basically tells him to stfu with "I just need your Grey Warden expertise, not a diatribe on your strange personal habits." She's such a hardass she's getting rivalry points from Varric D: Then again, in regards to Anders she was all "Oh hellz no, it's on." when he called her "little girl".

As for people who forgive/semi-condone his actions... you'll find a few. My Hawke was a bit more understanding as he was gunning for mage freedom and revolution himself, but he didn't necessarily agree with the act itself. But it's a complicated situation and Anders was his blind spot.... Anders is gonna spend like, a year on the couch though. He'll have to live with the repercussions of his actions rather than be killed as justice for the people who died in the Chantry, as Hepler suggested Anders wanted.
