Quite hillarious if you ask me 

Aside from the hackneyed dialogue...  Howden's voice acting in this is REALLY GOOD!  To be honest, I was kind of put off on him as Anders at the beginning of the game.  Something about how he delivered the lines about when he was a Grey Warden and about them making him give up Ser Pounce just... felt really forced.  I felt like eventually things fell into place, though.

You don't need Anders in the party. I had Varric instead of him. I also got that dialogue in act 2 once.

He never leaves my party as well, my Hawke feels naked and that he is at his clinic with sad panda face.
