I now love the last Questioning Beliefs conversation with Anders. I get to argue with him! Whee! And Hawke finally gots to say, 'I believe in your cause. It's just your methods I question." I kind of like not having a Persuade option. In Origins, it felt like every time I did that the other person would just be like, "Oh, you're right" and cave in. But rivaled Anders and Hawke argue! It's great!

I love the argument too and it makes it feel much more real and complete. You don't need to be rivals to have an argument with someone, and I expect after three years of living together Hawke and Anders have had their fair share of quarrels, whether over mages vs templars or whose responsibility it was to walk the dog.

I also loooooove the argument.  It's the same reason why I absolutely adore Carver.  I love that you can fight and bicker and have disagreements with people in DA2 and still love each other at the end of the day.

Also, Anders would pitch a huge fit over having to walk the dog.  I can just see him grumbling "It isn't MY bloody dog.  I hate dogs.  Stupid dog.  You don't ever have to walk a cat" all around Hightown as the mabari drags him along.

Hawke just likes showing the boyfriend off around Hightown.

Best part of having an apostate lover? Scandelizing the neighbors with him and your huge, slobbering, furry status symbol.

Am I the only one wandering why Anders has blond hair but black eyebrows/stubble

Some people's facial hair grows in a different color from the hair on their head.

My Hawke leaves the dog-walking to Aveline.

Exercise AND tasty recruits to chomp on? Win-win situation, if you ask me.

My guess is that it was because the blonde facial hair on his pale skin looks pretty bad, and doesn't give the same definition to his features as something darker. People with different coloured eyebrows and beards aren't that unusual in reality: I get more surprised by people questioning it than that his model looked like that in the first place.

My Hawke would love doing that. She would happily accept the invitations to those prissy noble parties she gets as long as she can bring along her scruffy apostate lover as an enormous "**** you all, we're awesome" in-your-face statement. And if Anders is busy, Izzy gets to come instead so she has someone to snicker with.

I've tried using the mod (in both DA:A and DAII) that gave him facial hair that matched his hair colour, and it just didn't look right.

It's not all that uncommon for things in the hair to department to not match... and be natural.

That's just my personal opinion though. I like him with the dark stubble and eyebrows... and perhaps other things. *Coughs*

I dated a guy once like that... he also kind of looked like Anders, come to think of it... and was just as needy and partiliy crazy...

*Looks at past relationships.*
*Looks at favourite game LIs.*

Well ****.

My Hawke's like that, too.

And after Meredith knows he's a mage, I imagine he'd start wearing robes more often. And bringing a dude and just introducing him as "Anders" and not even saying "... my cousin" or some lame excuse like that.

It makes a better story, see. And it's fun.

oh boy more twilight arguments

I think it's sort of sad that a slew of perfectly decent literary tropes have been effectively outlawed from ever being used again just because some ****ty, masturbatory teen abstinence porn novel executed them poorly. It's not like Twilight invented "NO WE SHOULDN'T BANG BECAUSE I KNOW I'M A DOUCHEBAG".

The problem with how Twilight handled it is that Edward is a neutered vegan prettyboy whose actions do absolutely nothing to suggest he's actually any danger to Bella at all. The book expects the reader to take him at his word that he's a heartless killer while providing nothing at all to inspire any sort of conflict or urgency; he just limps around, sparkling ineffectually, talking about how awful he is and doing nothing at all. The worst thing he does is basically stalk Bella, but all of the negative implications of that are somehow entirely ignored and/or twisted into a disturbing romanticism.

But even then, that wasn't what made it bad -- what really makes Twilight awful is that it has absolutely no self-awareness whatsoever. The creepy stalker/simpering doormat dynamic between Edward and Bella even could have been interesting if the book acknowledged that in any way, and actually explored their unhealthy codependency with cognizance that it was unhealthy codependency; instead it's extolled as some kind of virtuous True Love without any irony. And that's where the book really gets creepy, because you can tell that the author seriously and wholly does not understand any of the Unfortunate Implications of anything she's written.

Yes, Anders's romance has the same general trope, but it's handled so differently and so much better that I can't help but wonder if the people who make these negative comparisons have any why Twilight was actually bad beyond the idea that they're supposed to hate it and everthing it did because everyone else does. The trope itself had nothing to do with why Twilight's romance was bad -- it was the book's failure to delve beneath the shoddy veneer of romanticism and examine the gruesome train wreck that comprises the heart of their relationship. Anders is written in complete acknowledgement of the train wreck; it doesn't beat you over the head with the idea that you're supposed to think what he does is romantic. The game knows he's codependant, hypocritical and capriciously schizophrenic. Anders actually has legitimate reasons to think he will damage Hawke, and most importantly, he actually does.

I couldn't agree more. Well said.

And in the case nobody knows this, here is a very good blog that reviews each chapter of Twilight on its own and sheds light on exactly those factors that ipgd mentioned. Plus it's very funny to watch this blogger rip Twilight apart.

I just finished All that remains and I just wanted to say how much I swooned when I picked the option to tell Anders that I thought the Templar's were right. He said something along the lines of "I know you want someone to blame, and if you want you can take it out on me."
He said it so lovingly!!

This was the first time I picked that option >_> so sorry if this like old news. But Anders sweetness sometimes sneaks up on me ^_^

I choose that while doing my mage (who supported Anders/Mage Freedom, but was really hurting) playthrough and it really did make me "d'awwwwwww".

It's sweet, especially the changed dialogue if you're a mage while saying it. :3

You know, Meredith, it's really hard to agree with and support you when you a) bring up Hawke's dead mother-which always, always provokes HAWKE RAGE and B) threaten Hawke's friends. Yes, Anders probably should not be up in her face about the templars, but playing the "Your friendship with the Champion only protects you so much, mage" card makes me want to go for the mardar knife. Or at least the "Anders is totally right!" option.

And Orsino seems so cool in comparison! B) I mean, he looks awesome, he got to take on about ten qunari by himself earlier, he actually has a smart comeback to sarcastic Hawke's "Meredith adds one and one and gets eleven" remark...

And then it's all "RARRGH BLOOD MAGIC" and "Lolz, I knew about Quentin's research." And then I get to mardar him.

RE: hair: I am now trying to picture Anders with blond stubble and eyebrows. It's a weird mental image. Thanks for that, guys.

Come to think of it, what does Hawke say when you pick the "get out" - line during the consolation-scene?

Is it similar to Fenris in which Hawke just tells him politely to leave them alone, or does Hawke actually yell at Anders?

If I remember correctly, it was just a pretty polite "You should go" and he just said something like "I understand."

Pretty sure Hawke just says, "I'd prefer to be alone," and he turns and leaves. It's been a few days, though.

You had to mention that. Now I can't get the imagine of my Hawke and Anders having kinky, self-loathing, comfort-magic-gay sex if out my head.

Oh, yes, shame on me for saying something depraved.

Whatever will we do? Your poor virgin eyes.

Really, I feel like you should be thanking me if I'm the reason you're having those thoughts. Or at least paying me. I like being paid.
