Well when you think about it....while the romances may be a huge deal to some, this game kind of forced you to focus more on the plot. Rather than just stopping and chatting with Alistair about your feelings....next to a pile of smoldering darkspawn carcasses.
This game wasn't ALL ABOUT THE ROMANCE. It was sort of like the ME trilogy's layout. Give you specific times to talk to companions instead of focusing solely on the romance.
I like it, personally. Makes it more authentic.
I thought the romances in DA2 were handled better than in either DA:O or ME to be honest.
They were neither as unrealistic as DA:O (ie sleeping with Morrigan/Zevran/Leliana 5 minutes after you meet them), or as shallow as the ME ones (a couple of talks, 1 night together and that's it)
