you can warn the woman three times but she does not leave. I don't like that she died and would of stopped it if I could but she had plenty of heads up from Hawke and Seb, Hawke again and then finally by the city's knight captain to leave. She chose not to. I won't say she had it coming but she knew it was coming.

Now I want a Che shirt just so I can get "Elthina Had It Coming!" embroidered on the back of it.

*facepalm*  Oh boy.

Your argument is as extreme as the "Elthina had it coming" argument, just on the other side of the spectrum.

Go ahead and villainize the mages as you see fit.  However, you must accept that Thedas is a horrible place full of horrible people, and surprise, many of them are not mages.  There are perfectly nice mages who deserve a lot more respect than what has been given to them, but the world sucks.

You also have to accept that people have the freedom to choose what they believe in a place of grey morality, just as I completely support your ability to make arguments of absolution.  So laugh on, I guess.

tl;dr -- U MAD?

See I kinda think Elthina did have it coming as she is warned so many times that people are trying to kill her, but she seems to think she's untouchable because of her position.
Does that mean that she deserves what happens to her in the end? Probably not.

Nobody deserved what happens/ed.
Elthina didn't deserve to die.
Nobody did.

Meredith didn't deserve to see her life and family murdered by the abomination that was once her sister.

Anders didn't deserve to be dragged away from his mother with the realisation that his father, and many others hated him.

None of the mages deserve to be punished for the crimes of the Tevinter Imperium.

The elves don't deserve to be enslaved and mistreated because they refused to relinquish their culture, and then either have to fight for it or have it stripped from them. (The templars actually hunt the Dalish, too.)

Casteless dwarves don't deserve to be downtrodden and abused just for how they were born.

There's a lot of injustice in Thedas, so just sit tight and see what happens.

Yes. Very few people deserve what comes to them, be it good or bad.

If I'm not mistaken, she was only warned twice - or if you don't have the Seb DLC, just once, by Hawke.

But in all honesty it really doesn't matter. People in prominant positions will always be threatened by someone or something - it doesn't mean they just up and go into hiding and it doesn't mean they stop doing their job. Sure you COULD literally just run away, but what kind of message does that send to your people? It means the other side got to you and is winning, or that whatever they left behind wasn't worth protecting.

Hmm, I thought it was implied that the Divine is sending her information about plots. Or is that just with the DLC as well?
I'm not saying she should run for the hills. Just that, at least it appears this way, she doesn't seem to do anything at all with the information she is given. She (wrongly) assumes that no-one would touch her because of her position, that they all have the same level of respect for the Chantry as she has. In my opinion that's misguided at best, and downright arrogant at worst.

@Rinji: Yeah, I'm not disposed to like the Chantry anyway. I felt like hurling things too.

I don't own a Che shirt. Mainly because he would have hated it.

Oh, I'd buy a che t-shirt because of it. I'm not a big fan of Che. >.> I find him interesting and all, but whenever a person that wants to be a doctor drops doctoring and goes and kill people I get UPSET. THERE CAN BE NO COMPR--

Ah, see I'm a raging leftie/hippie. I don't like the system or the man. That said, I can separate real life from video games, and am not going to blow up any churches any time soon. Seems that some people can't though, and this is what makes me really sad.

Oh, I'm a big leftie, too. But I'm a fan of civil disobedience. At the end of the day, I believe resorting to violence means you've lost in some way.

honestly i still can't see that, even with the three warnings we see as players.  she's probably had attempts on her life before but i still dont think that's good enough reason to just up and leave. i actually applaud her decision to stick by people who needed her even in the face of danger. just look at kirkwall - its full of dispicable people and i think she actually has dialouge about how it wouldn't be the first time someone has threatened her. what's one more threat? even if it happened to be the one that was made good it doesn't matter. her death isn't going to stop the chantry from exsisting - it going to end up serving as a symbol about the chantry who back down in the face of danger at the hands of an evil mage (which, btw is not what she wanted in the first place).

I think that's only in the DLC since you need Seb to find Sister Nightengale for that. Eitherway I don't think there is much she could do with that information other than hand it over to Meredith and have her hunt down even more mages - in which case maybe it was better that she didn't? It never came across to me that she had an attitude when speaking about her position and how awesome she thought it was - it was more like an "look, I've been there, done that, and quite frankly don't give a rat's ass because I'm not going anywhere and I'll take care of this my way" kind of deal.

The old Anders thread over in the DAO/DAA forums had a cool prompt this week (feature Anders happy somehow... not as easy after DA2). I figured many of you peeps might enjoy it, so I'll drop a link here...

I suppose it's because I don't really have a strong religion or a strong religious leader, but I always wondered what she stayed for that was so important.

But, as I said, I don't have a strong religion/leader. I'm not part of a flock, so I don't fully understand the benefit of having the shepherd around. I saw it more as a ... I don't want to say desire to be martyred, but maybe something almost like that.

I dunno.

Horatio of Hornblower fame? I could allow this.

Also, my cat is called Daisy, and I only realised the other day that this is also Merrill's nickname. I have a fandom cat, yay!
