While I thoroughly approve of snogging, pashing, smooching and sucking face, I hope this thread doesn't get too wary of the occasional intelligent debate. Fan threads are awesome, but fan threads with smart people unopposed to character and motive dissections are even better.

I think we need lots of snogging and silliness in betwee the attempts at intelligent debate.  Because TBH Thedas is a pretty f***ing depressing place. And snogging, shameboners, and Meredanders make it all better for a bit

Yes character and motive dissections are great but it was getting a bit snipey in places. Most debates here though don't get like that and I'm all for debate

She does seem a bit too eager to completely ignore the multitude of threats to her life. If even Sebastian is telling you to get outta there and you don't listen, well, more fool you I say. Either that or her ego really is as big as that statue behind her. "No-one would touch me, I'm a revered mother!" Oh really Elthina, really?

Allright, I get  the Elthina hate, I do.  Can't agree with the martyr or egoist assesments though.  The woman has faults, but these aren't on my list.  I believe the "no one would dare touch me" line stems from her faith that the people revere the Maker, the Chantry as an institution, and not her personally.  Or she thinks they would fear retribution for killing a grand cleric too much to do it.  Don't see the martyr death wish either.  She admires people who would lay down their life for others.  So do I, very much so, and I hope (but doubt) I would have that kind of strength if called upon.  Not in any rush to go out and die gloriously myself though.  Seems to me she's just saying she's duty bound to stay, and serves the people best by staying.  She sucks at actually serving the people, but I'm commenting on her dedication, not her effectiveness.

Too bad Anders never had a figure like Mahatma Gandhi to learn from.  Stupid Anders.  Stupid, stupid Elthina.  Stupid, stab-worthy Meredith.  I'm off to make another Hawke for Anders to romance again.  The (pants) will make me feel better.   I think I'll spare him this time, then knock him out and ship him off to Wynne to fix.  Or not, Wynne is far too pro-templar.  Advice on where to send Anders for mental help?  Once the whole mage/templar war he unleashed quiets down, that is.

It's a church.  *Public* place of worship.  I doubt Anders picked "Chantry closed for floor polishing" day to blow it up.  As others have said before, there was the guy praying about visiting prostitutes, and the woman praying for her son or brother.  There were Chantry sisters there.  We don't know if the templars (and sisters, not shown) who were killed were pro-Meredith or pro-Thrask, do we?  BioWare could have beaten us over the head with the death of innocents more, yes, but to me, the game made it clear that Anders blew up at least a few innocent people.
