"No good deed goes unpunished" should have been the subtitle for this game.XD

Or "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

Or "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."  Honestly, anything suitably depressing and misanthropic would work :?

DA2 would make the best little kids' book ever.

"Meet your friend Mary. She wants your help fixing an antique mirror... oops, you just killed all her family and friends.

Here's your friend Izzy. Izzy just loves rare books. Why don't you help her with her book collection... oops, you helped start a war.

Oh, look, it's your good friend Andy. He needs you to help him make some special medicine that will make him all better... oops, it was actually a giant poop bomb."

And so on, and so forth. The moral for kids is, don't help anyone. Most of all, don't help your friends because they're probably the worst people of all.

OMG, I hate this game now.

Ah several pages back we were discussing at what time of the day Anders blows the Chantry. I just loaded my last game after the chantry goes boom and it says my Warrior Hawke is at "The Docks(night)". So the bombing happens at night when the chantry would be the most deserted of regular citizens. Just wanted to throw that in there.

There's a video of Rival!Anders where he says 'It's nearly midnight' ominously. Would link it but I am weak and sleep beckons!

Edited to add: Just quickly. I'm almost certain you can't enter the Chantry at night (except for sneaking in during plot relevant quests). So it was probably closed and everyone was sleeping.

There are also seven people visible in that scene (that I could see). Two templars, four chantry members, and Elthina.

ppl were arguing that the midnight thing was a metaphor and not an actual time.  There were also arguements that it was day time when the bomb goes off.

Minor details :pinched:  But yeah, I mean that atleast he didn't do when there would be the most people in it.  Sort of keeping the innocent death to a smaller amount.

I'll admit, that bit with the Qunari was the one thing to really bring the troll out of my diplomatic Hawke. I knew it would end badly, but I really couldn't resist her bringing up that Anders was a mage and he was a swell guy.

I felt like an ass being a mage and only pointing out that Anders was a mage. :P

Haha, I didn't know you could do that. I haven't played a mage yet. That's pretty hilarious though.

Heh, I had Merrill too and she will pipe up as well.

It turns out iconoclasm is just a hobby for Anders.  :P  The Chantry thing was just his current big project, like building a PC or renovating a classic car.

Also I imagine the giant light in the sky warned most of the regular citizens to get indoors while the **** was breaking out. That probably helped lessen civilian deaths.

My arguement would be that Anders sees the Chantry as a Military target, seeing as how it is the head of the Templar order and not a civilian target, therefore the only "civilians" would be kirkwall citizens.  Since the Chantry is deserted at night Anders/Justiced planned for the Bomb to go off with as little collateral damage as possible.

I am of the opinion that the "midnight" comment is just a metaphor. Like saying that they're almost to the final hour, or some such. However, I am also pretty sure it is literally night/late evening in that scene since everything after that takes place at night. Which isn't to say he didn't kill a bunch of people (all the Chantry sister who live there and whatever) but I also don't think it was packed with random citizens as the Chantry is closed at night.

Mm, I realise it's most likely a metaphor, but I also take it as a slight hint at the timing. It looks pretty dark to me during those scenes, but again could just be my terrible eyesight! But yeah, that save name is probably more conclusive proof.

Anyway, I just really popped in to spread the joy of RuPaul, so now I must away. *twirls cape*

Night all. :kissing:

Oh I agree. The Chantry is the head of a military order and the only ones in that scene are members of the Chantry.

Yup.  To Anders the Chantry was a military target and the head of the snake in his opinion.  Which is the reason why he doesn't target the Gallows (people go in an out, Circle is there), doesn't go after downtown, and doesn't target Meredith directly.  It's Elthina (no matter how much she denies it) who has the power over the templars that she refuses to use.

It's definitely metaphor, but the first thing I thought when hearing that whole "the clock is ticking; it'll be midnight soon" bit was still, "Uh.... you guys have clocks?  The sort with internal mechanics?   Really?  Where?"  ;)

....NOTE TO SELF: metaphor, metaphor, stop taking it so literally, metaphor.....   ;)

For the life of me, I will never remember where WoG said so, but they do have clocks.  If I recall, dwarves made them, and that was explained when ... Jowan?... says something about tick-tock.  Bah, it was months ago and my brain is like a sieve.

Re what time the Chantry got jenga'd, I still vote for day. The cinematic shows daylight coming through the Chantry windows. The sky is overcast, but not a night sky. And why are Orsino and Meredith up and about and arguing if it's night? Why does Orsino want to go see Elthina, if she's tucked in bed? Orsino talks about showing the people what Meredith is doing. Tough to do if they're all asleep too. The map may say Night, but when is that? After the Chantry blows? When the city is in flames? I imagine it took the good people of Kirkwall a couple hours to put up those flaming barricades, so by then it could well be night. Not at the time of the explosion though.

edit:
Re clocks:
Varric says something (during the Deep Roads quest?) about how Orzammar dwarves act all snooty because their ancestor invented a better water clock.  Love little detials like that!

I agree with the Chantry being a military target, as with the opinions given here it does make sense. It is because of that and also the points about the Grand Cleric, my heart doesn't break as much as it normally would. Though I still wish it could have gone another way. Also I hope that the event calms Justice for a while. as much as I feel for Anders. I feel just as bad for Justice.

Hahaha. I didn't even think about that. Maybe only Anders has a clock. A magic clock... possibly powered by poop crystals.

Granted, I haven't thought much about that quote in general because I've never gotten it in game.
