I do agree with you in general, though I didn't really see some of the traits you're naming - especially him being suicidal/almost having a split personality - on the friendship path at least. Didn't notice that big a difference from act 2 to 3 either truth be told, save for what the codex said.
And my original point anyway was that we don't know how his situation progresses post-Jenga, there's no clear ingame indication either way. Of course it's possible to make real world parallels, but the truth is real world psychological issues don't involve spiritual/demonic possession.
He's preparing for his own death on the friendship path, for example, giving out his pillow to Varric and basically saying goodbyes. And well, the whole "I'm gonna blow up the Chantry and then I'm going to die, too" is pretty suicidal, given he has planned the whole thing, planned to go out with a bang. He also mentions suicide to a few companions (Fenris was one, and then someone else) in a way that makes at least me think he's put quite a lot of thought into it before. It could be just suicidal ideation, but Anders doesn't leave it to just planning phase. Cue Chantry jenga. He really wants to die (according to Gaider in some post, at least) and the only reason he doesn't get his wish is because Hawke spares him. If Hawke spares him, that is.
Anyway, that's my reasoning to say he has suicidal tendencies. I can't remember all the comments where he made me think "when did you change your mind on this?", though, they kind of... dropped on to me throughout the game.
The possession thing is an analogy to mental illness, yes. Though clearly it's not just the possession making Anders a raging loonie like most of the abominations, but it's a more delicate change of personality at work here, that I'd say has a lot to do with Anders' personality pre-Justice, as well. He was never the most stable of people, judging by what he told us about his life and treatment and experiences at the Circle. He was always damaged goods, but Justice pushed him over the edge.
No clue how he'd be post-game, of course. To me he seemed to be coming down from a psychotic phase of mania (especially if you rivalled him), just sitting there and waiting for others to decide his fate for him. He's totally dejected, until Hawke perks him up again by promising to slay some more templars with him. Or kills him, or tells him to ****** off. But he seems unable to do anything without someone pushing him to a new direction.
Anyway... too much typing!
