When Fenris betrayed me in the fade I had winter's grasp, crushing prison, and a martyred chain lightning from mah Fade buddy Justice ready to completely wipe that guy out. Just do not let him hit you... there's a reason I want him in my party for the final battle.

I honestly believe Fenris is the single most overpowered companion in the game.  I remember him turning on my in the fade and suddenly going oh **** everyone is dead except my Healer Hawke and now Fenris and a Pride dmeon are coming after me on Nightmare.
/load save game

He really is. I can bring him along just the two of us and do well. He should have been the protagonist.XD

If NO GODDAMNIT was an option for every single Anders/Fenris dialogue...I'd be happy.

Anders: Are you going to keep harping on the mages here?
Fenris: Yes.
Anders: But-
Hawke: NO GODDAMNIT.

Fenris: Is what they say true? You are an...ABOMINATION?
Anders: Why don't you say it louder, I don't think everyone heard you.
Hawke: NO GODDAMNIT.

Seriously.
Or a good elbow to the ribs would suffice, I suppose.

Also, Fenris had the GALL to say "It's your fault for taking me into the fade in the first place!"

Fenris' head? MEET JUSTICE'S FIST.

I am surprised there isn't fic out yet addressing this certain confrontation. My warrior Hawke would have curb-stomped him<_<, and my Mage and him would have just had hatesex, then later make-up sex. *sighs*

Ah My bad.

SPOILERS FOR ARRVIAL (Mass Effect DLC)

Indeed. Anders didn't have a hyper intelligent machine race that destroys all life in the galaxy on his ass. Shepard didn't have time to be savvy and not do what he did. (I'm pretty sure Shepard would've tried to get those Batarians out if there had been time *or at least Paragon Holier than Thou Shepard woul've* alas there was not.)

Spoiler Warning End.

Yeah, it seems to be some weird disconnect with the writing staff. I mean, did every single one of your companions have to betray you? Some of their reactions was very out of character.

I'm pretty sure the point was that demons make you do things that are "out of character".

They can but it doesn't mean they will. Otherwise there wouldn't be many mages passing their Harrowing. Fenris is so convinced mages are terrible and weak-minded individuals for making deals with demons it seems out of left field that he would make a deal with one.

Mages are trained from childhood to be vigilant in the Fade against demons. They're taught to recognize the signs of deception demons use to tempt mages. Merrill is the only mage that can make the deal (Anders can't be for obvious reasons, mage!Hawke can decline, Feynriel will resist the demons on his own even if you encourage him to give in) and she's already established as being naive and easily manipulated by demons.

Fenris giving in to the demon isn't really surprising, actually less so than any mage. He's basically going off to take his road test the first time he gets behind the wheel. If every mage were deliberately put in a situation with a demon without having the decade or more of training they get before their Harrowing, I imagine that yes, not many mages would be able to resist. That's practically the entire reason the Circle exists in the first place.

So, just a head's up: please refrain from posting spoilers for other games (or any newish media) in this thread without at least a big, ****-off warning.

Thanks!

I think the templars in Kirkwall are just as nuts as the mages.  The temnplars are incompetent, just like the ones in lothering.

But they're aware that they're in the fade. Even Isabella but she hasn't exactly shown to have anyone's interest at heart but her own. It's like he knows it's a demon, they all make that clear through dialog. They go with it anways. Even your friends in DAO weren't as obnoxious.

I do like a this forum, with people who aren't all 'OMG KILL ANDERS !!!! TERRORIST!!!' but look at his actions from a rational, if slightly biased viewpoint.

A question, which may have been asked before. Some of you have mentioned Anders participating in cannibalism, shortly after his possession? May I ask where this comes from? I'm assuming it's officially canon, since I'm seeing it in many fanfictions. Maybe I missed something in the game.

Yeah, totally agree with you.
I tend to not believe in taking non-mages to the Fade, but Isabela is too hilarious for words.
And Merrill has had no training at resisting demons, etc.  And she thinks she can make deals with them and not get eaten, so... plus the motivation is already there, it's not like she hasn't done it before.
Plus... the convo with Merrill clearly said to me that the Fade created by the Dreamer was different... making it very interesting to think about what a Dreamer does to amplify the power and seduction of demons.

Eh... i dunno, after DA2, the original Origins characters seem kind of... flat and 2-dimensional. (Morrigan, Sten, Oghren and Zev remain top of my list though.)

However, the Awakening companions hold my heart.
Nathaniel, Anders, Oghren, Sigrun and Justice will forever be my favourites. ^_^

I think it's from those little short stories that tack on to the games release. I could be wrong though.

Yeah not seeing that at all. The origins characters to me are very nuanced. I never felt any of BW's characters to be flat to me. They all had the quirks and charm and feel very human like.

Templar: Yes?
Hawke: I was fighting these Templars the other day, trying to save my mage brethren. And I found myself unable to Petrify one of them all of the sudden. Do Templars have the ability to drain the mana from an area?
Templar: Why yes we do.
Hawke: Oh, just wondering. Because I plan on obliterating all Templars with my magic to create a new Tevinter Imperium so you can all be enslaved under my will. And I certainly can't do that if you can drain my mana!
Templar: Why no you can't! -laughs- Well, have a good day.
Hawke: You, too. :D

I hated Morrigan :P, but agree with you that I cared for Anders and Sigrun way more than DA:O companions.  Even Justice and Oghren rocked my socks off.
Which explains why today I was raging and ready to lynch someone at Bioware for the fact that saving Amarinthe suddenly seems to be interpreted by DA:2 as "Vigil fell and ALL THE COMPANIONS THERE ARE DEAD".
I'm still angry.

It's from his short story released on Valentine's Day.  It's also linked to his character page on the main DA2 website.

EDIT: And I'm still in the camp that thinks while cannibalism is technically the correct term for what happens, it's kinda missing the point.  I think it was mostly to illustrate his animalistic rage and that he wasn't fighting like a normal man, with sword and magic: he was fighting like some kind of mad beast, with his bare hards and teeth.  I'm not sure if that's better exactly, but it's not like he was roasting up templar livers Hannibal Lecter style.

Ah that explains it.

And yeah. Fereldan may smell of wet dog. But they're smart people smelling of wet dog. I wanna go back. :crying: Not to mention Hawke who may be the only sane man (along with Varric and Aveline) none of them are from Kirkwall and 2/3 are from Fereldan. Everyone sane doesn't seem native to the area. Maybe there is something in the water.
