I miss my DAO friends. They were less insane. :( Not as pretty but hell I'll trade looks for sanity any day.

Eh... i dunno, after DA2, the original Origins characters seem kind of... flat and 2-dimensional. (Morrigan, Sten, Oghren and Zev remain top of my list though.)

However, the Awakening companions hold my heart.
Nathaniel, Anders, Oghren, Sigrun and Justice will forever be my favourites. ^_^

Yeah not seeing that at all. The origins characters to me are very nuanced. I never felt any of BW's characters to be flat to me. They all had the quirks and charm and feel very human like.

Perhaps "flat" is a bit strong for what I'm saying, it's just that they didn't feel as deep or real as the DA2 cast.

Of course the DA2 cast tended to get depressing.

Hence my love of Awakening, the companions there are like the middleground.
(Also, they're all fellow Wardens, so it's like "My family!" )

Hmm... no harm in reposting this beauty, I suppose:

Not that anyone cares, but apparently in my game Anders was REVIVED FROM THE DEAD by Justice who was already gone to the FADE because his body was *ahem* apparently killed at the keep. Despite my attempts to try to make sure everyone but Justice survived. Damn it Bioware!
Justice has Jesus powers. Times two.

I thought Nathaniel just had a case of Mage Misidentity?
Anders: YOU SAYIN' ALL MAGES LOOK THE SAME WITH OUR ROBES AND SUCH?!
Nate, Hawke, Fenris: Well, yes.

Hawke walks through the street coming and notices she's lost.

Merrill: Haven't we seen this corner before?
Hawke: Yeah, you're right. I think we're lost.
Merrill: Maybe we should ask for directions.
Hawke: Oh, there's a Templar over there. Let's ask him!
Merrill: No! Hawke are you crazy!?
*Hawke walks over to the Templar*
Hawke: Oi! Templar!
Templar: Do you know anything about the mage underground?
Hawke: Yeah, whatever. I'll be honest with you, I'm a mage and I'm looking for the Lowtown market.
Templar: Whoa whoa whoa... Calm down a second. You're in the market.

Yeah, it seems to be some weird disconnect with the writing staff. I mean, did every single one of your companions have to betray you? Some of their reactions was very out of character.

I'm pretty sure the point was that demons make you do things that are "out of character".

They can but it doesn't mean they will. Otherwise there wouldn't be many mages passing their Harrowing. Fenris is so convinced mages are terrible and weak-minded individuals for making deals with demons it seems out of left field that he would make a deal with one.

Mages are trained from childhood to be vigilant in the Fade against demons. They're taught to recognize the signs of deception demons use to tempt mages. Merrill is the only mage that can make the deal (Anders can't be for obvious reasons, mage!Hawke can decline, Feynriel will resist the demons on his own even if you encourage him to give in) and she's already established as being naive and easily manipulated by demons.

Fenris giving in to the demon isn't really surprising, actually less so than any mage. He's basically going off to take his road test the first time he gets behind the wheel. If every mage were deliberately put in a situation with a demon without having the decade or more of training they get before their Harrowing, I imagine that yes, not many mages would be able to resist. That's practically the entire reason the Circle exists in the first place.

But they're aware that they're in the fade. Even Isabella but she hasn't exactly shown to have anyone's interest at heart but her own. It's like he knows it's a demon, they all make that clear through dialog. They go with it anways. Even your friends in DAO weren't as obnoxious.

The demon is deliberately obfuscating. They "know" it's a demon, but the demon is using its powers to manipulate their minds. Because demons have powers. Powers that none of them were trained to resist like mages are, besides possibly Merrill, who, again, already established herself as being dumb about demons.

The companions in DAO are all tricked by the demon, too (only Morrigan and Sten actually realize they're being manipulated, and even then Morrigan is the only one who completely and wholly rejects the demon entirely). You can convince them to snap out of it, but it's possible that the demons in Feynriel's head were a lot stronger specifically because he is a Dreamer.

A
question, which may have been asked before. Some of you have mentioned
Anders participating in cannibalism, shortly after his possession? May I
ask where this comes from? I'm assuming it's officially canon, since
I'm seeing it in many fanfictions. Maybe I missed something in the
game.

He sort of ends up with blood in his mouth in his short story but I wouldn't call it cannibalism.

Justice is always the only one to "die" in my games at the Keep. And Velanna disappears. Finally got Sigrun to stay last playthrough I imported to fix the Nate bug.

I'm wondering now

In that short story it says that Justice was offering the merge yet it in my game Anders says that he "offered to help" Justice. Which was it?

Anders/Vengeance: YOU WILL PAY FOR YOUR CRIMES TEMPLAR!
Templar: I'm sorry, what did you say?
A/V: YOU WILL TASTE MY WRATH!
Templar: You wanted me to help you with what?
A/V: (glows more violently) YOU MOCK ME. I WILL DESTROY YOU.
Templar: You got what up your what? Sir, I can't understand you...do you have something stuck in your throat?
A/V: (kills him violently)

Meanwhile, about 20 feet away,

Templar: Are you sure we shouldn't go over and say something?
Templar #2: No, look. They're resolving it on their own.

It mentions that the bodies of the Wardens and Templars scattered around after he comes back to himself are a "mess of torn and eaten flesh", or something along those lines.

Implying that Anders nibbled on them while all glowing and Justice-y.

That's how I read it, anyway.

Edit: Actual quote - "And suddenly I'm alone, standing in a burning forest, with the bodies of templars and wardens at my feet. So many, and I didn't even know they were there. Didn't even know I had killed them, but the evidence is all around me. Not the aftermath of a battle as I've known it, but a bloody abattoir of rent limbs and torn and eaten flesh."

I got the impression it was somehting they had previously discussed and the line in the story was Justice asking if Anders was ready.

Likely a mutual agreement. I think it went like this:

Justice pressured Anders to free his fellow mages, and Anders started worrying about what would happen to Justice after Kristoff's body rotted away beyond use.

So they decided to work together.
And condemned the fans to misery. :crying:

That's what I was going for, which I'd be happy with... but because I left Anders and Nate at the keep... they are both dead, apparently.
I am fuming.
One thing is to handwave my options away, but to pretty much say that I wasted all that time, resources and money in game to upgrade the keep?  I... :pinched:

And my Dalish warden just wouldn't give a crap either way. Though I can easily imagine her approaching an Anders-mancing Hawke and telling him/her something along the lines of "hurt him and I'll BREAK YOU".
Cos that's how she rolls.

What about her clan?
I mean, either they're dead, or Hawke is believed to be responsible for the death of their keeper. (The Keeper is required to keep the clan running, apparently, and the Alerion clan was falling appart as it was.)

I think the Dalish Warden would have some issues with that.

I just got back from work, so this is kinda dismally late, buuuuuuuut.
In my playthrough, Merril 'n' Mahariel's clan members are still alive. And she's been away from them for... well, kind of a long time.
There's a line Tamlen says back in the beginning of DA:O; basically that the Dalish warden's going to wind up "a flatear; living like a shem". Well, he was joking, but he wasn't far wrong: if nothing else, her time as a Warden has lent my Mahariel perspective. She's a lot more mellow and willing to listen, these days.
So if she gets wind of what went down on Sundermount, she's less likely to be all "KILLSWITCH ENGAGED" than "...Wait, Merrill did what? That Merril? When did THIS happen?!", followed by stomping off to the alienage for an explanation.

Anders be confused?!

Anyway, I wanted to get Velanna to stay so I created the "perfect save" *hahaha I should have known better!* where Velanna comes with me, despite my distate for her, Anders/Nate/Justice stay behind and I go off with Oghren/Velanna/Sigrun so that only Justice dies.

And then... then they messed it all up and consider all companions at the keep dead.
I want to cry.  My warden would never let Anders die, HOW DARE YOU BIOWARE! :crying:

That's a very good question. First time I read that short story my reaction wasn't "Ewww, he nommed on Templars and suddenly developed a taste for blood and cannibalism."

It was more, "Andraste's flaming knickers, why is that so hot."

I'm a disturbed, twisted person.

Edit: Thinking about it, I think it partiliy stems from a "Beauty and the Beast" aspect. The fact Anders isn't actually human anymore, and that he's a "monster" is appealing in that it adds to the "forbidden", doomed love romance.

*Shrugs*
