I do think each playthrough is an alternate reality too. Just like Hawke can be male or female and have a ton of differennt personalities, Bethany and Carver may be alive or dead, the other characters can change as well. Isabella can be a selfish backstabber, or she can be Hawke's best friend and ally. Sebastian can want to be a prince or a priest, etc and that applies to Anders as well.

I dunno. The analogy just doesn't click with me. Everytime I've seen a jem I always see multiple facets at one time. I see the side but it'll have 2 different facets on it. 

The alternate reality makes more sense to me.

We're not just talking about his personality but his life for the last 7 years. And Rival Anders and Friendship Anders may both be "Anders" but they don't feel like facets of each other to me. I dunno. I makes sense I know it does but it doesn't...click.

Ah this I understand. But say what if you had the leadup to one story but then used an alternate stories ending on it. Even though said alternate ending contradicted character development tha happened in the original. Would you really expect your readers not to get upset or confused? 

In the terms of novel writing, an author must choose how much character development gets included in the story. In the final story there is one character arc (assuming the character changes and grows during the story). That doesn't mean that the author hasn't written an entirely other account where that character hasn't gone crazy, maybe pushed over the edge. Maybe they had a draft with a happily ever after. Maybe a character was written with a development arc one way and it was changed after receiving a rejection letter. These were all possibilities and potential for the character. The reader doesn't get access to all this.

I'm not talking about chopping an ending from one character arc and slapping it onto another. I also doubt that the writers at Bioware intended to do that too. I just don't think it's fair to writers to assume that what you see is all they ever wrote. The fact is, you'll never get to see all the potential a writer had for a character. Some of it stays on the desk/in the computer (and sometimes for good reason). To say they must always have shown it sells writers very short.

Edit: Again with Anders, the information we have on the rivalry is both bugged and incomplete. I would attribute this incompleteness to time not that material was never written.

And I doubt it too. That's why I think it's bugged. 

Well I don't know about anyone else here but I didn't assume what I saw was all they ever wrote. Nor all of their potential.

It's why I tend to not say something's out of character (unless it's Fenders. But even that might might be possible in some way...).

So agreed. This was really the main points where I felt like Hawke was taken away from me. I've decided to roleplay it as Hawke attempting to maintain her status because it's her status that keeps Anders safe.

Edit: Looking back on my posts and I'm being very b*****. It's not anyone in particular I'm angryat. I'm being sick and tired of feeling like my preferred ending shouldn't exist here. Sick and tired. I don't mind people ripping it apart with it doesn't make sense. But the It shouldn't exist thing just pushes my berserk button. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snarl at anyone even if it came off that way.

Oh, I dunno, I've seen some lovely Anders and LadyHawke art and fic spread about here. It makes me wish I had some artistic talent, because I'd be throwing out Anders fanart all over the place.

I'm currently derailed from drawing Anders by other obligations. Instead I am drawing chibi Merrill and Hawke blood mage party. It is wrong, terrible, and adorable all at once. Once that commission is done though it's back to Anders for sure!

So, listening to the DA2 soundtrack... did anyone else find it ironic that the Fenris theme and the song Mage Pride sound really similar? Cuz, on the one hand you have Fenris and on the other, all I can think of is Anders. They're both good songs, but them being so similar sounding breaks my brain a little, haha.

While I'm here I might as well also spread my general love and adoration for all of you guys, and tell you that this rapidly expanding (900 pages WTH!!) and awesome thread are a highlight of my day.

Yeah I had a giggle over that, can just imagine Fenris "That's *my* theme ". On a general note, soundtrack is awesome isn't it, I got it with the SE but then extracted files for those bits of music that weren't included (had to do the same for Origins). I've had it on today to keep me sane while doing simple slopes analyses *shudders*
