That is exactly what I called it earlier today, a lobotomy.  It's a horrible, horrible thing to do to someone and it totally did not surprise me to see Karl beg for his death in those few lucid moments he was able to experience there with Anders.

I just do not understand why people would think this would be a good state to live in let alone why they would want to put through someone like that merely to have a sex slave.

edit for top:  All this talk is making Anders very sad...

But I'm soooooooooooooooooooooo bored of running for ages to reach the enemy which is half decimated by my mages by the time I get there.  I loves hitting people with the tilt to stun them, that's fun but the moving to the enemy thing and sitting there half the time just wacking at them gets... tedious :(.  Plus I'm never touching templar tree so it'd be pretty much a similar warrior to the current one.  I just... sigh... don't know.  I miss my mage WAHHHHHHHHHHH :crying:

Also, that looks like Justice's armor not Anders'!!!! *swoon*

That's because it is Justice.

Well Justice was in a corpse last I saw just him so... that looks to me like Anders in Justice's armor.  Or Anders/Vengeance in the Fade with Justice's armor.

Whatever, what matters is that it's HOT as all getup and I'm now very warm and good thing nobody is home to see how red my cheeks are!

If you follow the link it's called Fade dream and is meant to be Hawke and Justice.

I remember taking some medicine for a short period of time that absolutely flattened my personality (think along the lines of tranquil-light) and at the time i didn't mind it because you could think without emotions getting in the way. but looking back after getting it out of my system... i wouldn't want that state of mind for any reason. It was awful even if i couldn't tell that at the time

None of us have experienced Tranquility so it's difficult to say one way or another what it would be like. It sounds intriguing but I'm not about to say it's the worst thing ever because I simply can not know.

Haha. Yeah, it's not for everyone.

I think it worked out well enough for me because I just have Anders specced as a Healer so he never steals my kills. The way I usually start out any fight is to Scythe in really fast then follow it up with a Whirlwind. That either completely kills or at least mostly kills and stuns the first batch of bad guys. I also go for Berserker and then focus on things like Bolster to help my stamina because I didn't want to be a Templar (even if it was useful).

I personally love the Warrior/Anders dynamic, but any class/Anders is great. So I say play how you like to play. I'll keep pimping warriorHawke/Anders forever though.

There's a couple of tranquil mages you can see in the gallows. No idea if you can talk to them but at least one of them says stuff once in a while. I just can't remember what!

She tells her horrified ex-lover that their relationship was inappropriate and that's why she was made Tranquil.  The other Tranquil sometimes say stuff about how the mages' anger disturbs them, and they wish those mages were made Tranquil so they would calm down.  If you screw up Feynriel's quest, he's Tranquil, and he says the mages should be made Tranquil so they're disciplined or some such.  It's all creepy "We are the Borg, you will be assimilated" stuff.  *shudder*

I'm not convinced Owain is fully human anymore.  Maybe as human as someone with extreme Asperger's or autism?  They're human, with a severe disability.  (I'm not saying Tranquility is Asperger's or autism.)  I think empathy is one of the defining traits of a human being, and I'm not sure the Tranquil are capable of it anymore.  Doesn't mean I don't respect Owain, I just consider him very alien.  He, and the Tranquil enchanter in Cailan's camp, do have strong senses of purpose and duty, and of belonging to a community and contributing.  That's something, but I want more from life.  Like squeeing.  The Tranquil cannot squee.

If Anders rubbed the painted on Tranquility brand off his horehead and said "u mad?", my Hawkette would kick him in the wedding tackle so hard he'd spit up his kidneys, then collapse on him and sob.  Then have recurring nightmares.

Because not everyone enjoys the anxiety that comes from uncertainty. There are people who like to be led, to have a clear understanding and path to follow. Owain seems to appreciate this in his own capacity where he saw himself chaotic before. What works for one does not work for all of course.

I've read accounts from people who were forced to take Ritalin as children, and when their dose was wrong, they would get emotionally flattened.  Not one of them liked it, most were vehemently opposed to it afterwards.

I totally get it, sounds super romantic to me too.  In this play, Anders is mostly support role with arcane shield and whatnots, but I'm romancing Merrill and I love 2 mage parties so... yeah.  And Varric doesn't help matters at all, lol.

No one said anything about underestimating, but oppress mages and you make them more dangerous in my book. I have never argued that mages need policing, but I would never condone them being treated as subhuman because they were born with magic. As I said before they are human beings with human needs denying them that is an abomination in itself.

And as several of us stated we give allow them to stay in contact with their families, allow them to leave for periods of time, conjugal visits, trips to the gym etc. I pointed out earlier to simply let them all run free isn't feasible. Regardless of training the threats from the Fade are ever present. The demons always looking for a way out with a deal. Spreading the templars ranks out all over Thedas would keep them too thin. They are on a payroll after all. We can't wrap our heads around it because we don't live in a world where a child can blow up a city block by mistake. Our reality cannot compare.

conjugal visits? trips to the gym? What about settling down and having a family? falling in love? Having basic human rights? Not being subject to the whims of a group of over zealous jailers that have been educated by the chantry to hate them? Currently the core religion of the world preaches that mages evil monsters and breed fear among the populous. 6 year old children are dragged away kicking and screaming in chains by faceless templars etc etc you've heard it all in the game.

You need more than the odd conjugal visit or trip to the gym. You shouldn't be a prisoner through an accident of birth, stripped of everything that makes you human. As I've said, police mages, yes, come down harshly on all mages that cross the line - yes. But the way it is now? No, it's wrong and the only thing I can say is that I'm surprised it's taken 1000 years for them to rebel.

Anyway this is just my opinion and I don't want to offend anyone or fight so I'll leave it there :) I tend to get carried away when I get going lol my son and husband are pro templar...

But as we saw with many people who were not mages (looking at you Fenris) temptation by demon is not restricted to mages, especially if the veil is thin.  They are just more susceptible to it because of their connection with the fade.  But as we saw with Fenyriel, one can resist demons if they know what to look for and how to prepare themselves for it.

Oppressing mages only allow the temptations of demons to become more tempting and something they would want to do as they have no real freedom.
