So this is like... a tower of creepy, necrophiliac, way huge artificial shlong-y, obsessive, panty sniffing, apostranny rivalmancing love.
It's almost as if we've been cloistered away in a Circle for the safety of all, 'lest we turn into abominations. Uh. More often than normal. And it is quite a harrowing place to be.

The bits about training with a sword must have been coded to trigger if you tried to equip the wrong weapon on them. Kind of funny. I also love Carver. SO MUCH. Truly, I'm in the middle of writing fanfic about him. He may be my new favourite-character-after-Anders.

And yes, I do want to see what's under those robes...

Hahhhh, I was randomly replaying the end-battle to get my profile to update and Meredith made a bee-line straight for and grabbed Anders (the whole blah blah one you love thing)... but I keep on getting the glitch where the person she grabs floats midair to her side.... it's ridiculous xD

Indeed. The reason the "templars are bad" view is so prevalent is because most of us live in cushy western societies where anything that smells like oppression is Very Bad, and the only determining factor in how one should treat mages is how fair that treatment is. Of course, we don't have to live with the idea that Poor Oppressed Joe living next door to us might be secretly controlling our mind to make us like him-- or one day turn into a monster and kill our entire family-- but that doesn't need to stop us from being idealistic in our fantasy worlds, now, does it?

Oh yukidama, can you update your profile if you start the game up via EA manager or will having the developer console change for cheats still stop it?

Riiiiight. Keep telling yourself that
@Ninche: I did read that, and I think DG has a very good point. Mages ARE very dangerous people. And from a utilitarian point of view, I can totally see the templars' point. The problem is that the utilitarian argument breaks down at the point where the templars are doing more harm than good; it's all about the results, and if the results are bad as well as the means, you really don't have a leg to stand on morally. I'd argue that's the scenario in Kirkwall. Not necessarily elsewhere in Thedas (which is why Anders' blowing up the Chantry cannot be justified to me on consequentialist grounds), but in Kirkwall, the templars themselves drive mages to blood magic instead of protecting them and the citizens. That's not how it should work.

While this is true, I think a lot of people who are anti circle still believe that mages should be policed. I've not seen any posts suggesting mages be allowed run rampant. The thing is there's a fine line between protecting society from the dangers of mages and abusing mages. There needs to be some sort of middle ground, where mages are treated like people, allowed to have lives and loves but still have some sort of supervision. Taking away any group's rights completely is oppression and will lead to rebellion no matter how justified the oppressors feel.
cough... I'll shut up now

Oh, I totally agree. As a player, I think mages do need oversight. If a group of people like that existed IRL, you bet your ass the goverment would have them registered and monitored. I'm just saying that the system as it stands in Thedas can end very, very badly, at which point trying to justify it as protecting people is kind of failsauce. Kirkwall being the prime example of the potential trouble with the extant Circle structure under Chantry law.
Doesn't change the fact that my character is a nutjob revolutionary, and her views are starting to influence mine. It's a bit creepy, really.
