LOL.  We're like the maleficarum of the forums.

Mods:  We will have the Anders thread searched, top to bottom!  They are harboring crack, and we intend to root it out before they infect the forums!

So this is like... a tower of creepy, necrophiliac, way huge artificial shlong-y, obsessive, panty sniffing, apostranny rivalmancing love.

It's almost as if we've been cloistered away in a Circle for the safety of all, 'lest we turn into abominations. Uh. More often than normal. And it is quite a harrowing place to be.

The difference is we don't want to ever come out. Why would we?

The bits about training with a sword must have been coded to trigger if you tried to equip the wrong weapon on them. Kind of funny. I also love Carver. SO MUCH. Truly, I'm in the middle of writing fanfic about him. He may be my new favourite-character-after-Anders.

Re: More Battle Cries

I'm late to the party but after giving those a listen, I have to agree with this.

Anders is pure win, and I love Carver to death too. After hearing some of their other battle cries though I could not stop laughing.

I only get a few of the same ones too, and it sounds like some were taunts of some sort (as in, the actual talent seeing as how those with it do actually yell stuff).

I just love how everything Anders says is filled with emotion. So awesome. :3

And yes, I do want to see what's under those robes...

Hahhhh, I was randomly replaying the end-battle to get my profile to update and Meredith made a bee-line straight for and grabbed Anders (the whole blah blah one you love thing)... but I keep on getting the glitch where the person she grabs floats midair to her side.... it's ridiculous xD

Don't mean to spoil the mood or anything but have you guys read this? How do you understand it?

David Gaider wrote...

Indeed. The reason the "templars are bad" view is so prevalent is because most of us live in cushy western societies where anything that smells like oppression is Very Bad, and the only determining factor in how one should treat mages is how fair that treatment is. Of course, we don't have to live with the idea that Poor Oppressed Joe living next door to us might be secretly controlling our mind to make us like him-- or one day turn into a monster and kill our entire family-- but that doesn't need to stop us from being idealistic in our fantasy worlds, now, does it? Image IPB

See, the first time I played she went straight for me. This time I was standing right next to Anders and she bypassed me completely and grabbed him. Well, sorta grabbed because of the glitch. It happened with Fenris in the game I was romancing him in too. Meredith, your aim sucks.

Eh, trying to not make the game seem so one sided? I mean if he said "Yes templar's are the evil." Everyone would choose the mages no matter how they felt.

That when thinking about the mages vs templar debate we can't necessarily apply our 21st century, real world views? What happens in Thedas has to be thought of in the context of Thedas, even though as human beings it is impossible to fully separate our views, opinions and morals when it comes to things like this. Even moreso since we don't live in a society where some people have phenomenal cosmic powers. Gaider wasn't saying one side is better than the other as much as we need to consider the context (and this applies on all sides, I think).

Riiiiight.  Keep telling yourself that :P

@Ninche:  I did read that, and I think DG has a very good point.  Mages ARE very dangerous people.  And from a utilitarian point of view, I can totally see the templars' point.  The problem is that the utilitarian argument breaks down at the point where the templars are doing more harm than good; it's all about the results, and if the results are bad as well as the means, you really don't have a leg to stand on morally.  I'd argue that's the scenario in Kirkwall.  Not necessarily elsewhere in Thedas (which is why Anders' blowing up the Chantry cannot be justified to me on consequentialist grounds), but in Kirkwall, the templars themselves drive mages to blood magic instead of protecting them and the citizens.  That's not how it should work.

Not going to lie I am horrid and used cheats early in game for monies >_> I am weak I know...

Using the shortcut with the console enabled doesn't let your game update. But if you use the launcher it should upload fine.

Also, it kind of amuses me that the Post-Campaign you are sent back to the estate... I guess it's some weird sort of limbo? The Fade?  You can also take your buddies to the Black Emporium, haha.

I have to say I agree with him on that point, but I mentioned the dangers of people interpreting things with a 21st century Earth perspective on another thread awhile back and had one person jumping down my throat about it, which kind of puts me off posting too much.

That's not saying I agree with the Templars treatment of mages at all, but I can understand, or try to, the feelings of terror that a mage could engender amongst the general population.  Whether that terror is as a result of Chantry influence or down to the fact that one mage gone bad could wipe out a lot of people very quickly is another matter.

(oh and ignore the rambling tone, it's mid morning here and I haven't slept, sorry)

While this is true, I think a lot of people who are anti circle still believe that mages should be policed. I've not seen any posts suggesting mages be allowed run rampant. The thing is there's a fine line between protecting society from the dangers of mages and abusing mages. There needs to be some sort of middle ground, where mages are treated like people, allowed to have lives and loves but still have some sort of supervision. Taking away any group's rights completely is oppression and will lead to rebellion no matter how justified the oppressors feel.

cough... I'll shut up now

Oh, I totally agree.  As a player, I think mages do need oversight.  If a group of people like that existed IRL, you bet your ass the goverment would have them registered and monitored.  I'm just saying that the system as it stands in Thedas can end very, very badly, at which point trying to justify it as protecting people is kind of failsauce.  Kirkwall being the prime example of the potential trouble with the extant Circle structure under Chantry law.

Doesn't change the fact that my character is a nutjob revolutionary, and her views are starting to influence mine.  It's a bit creepy, really.

LOL I know what you mean. It doesn't help that my husband is pro templar. He only played DA2 and was appalled by mages in it and killed Anders (while I watched :crying:) and sided with the templars. So we have a lot of interesting discussions about the subject.
