I honestly think he was warning off female Hawke because it's something that women are supposed to find attractive? The whole "I'll only hurt you!" echoes Twilight too closely for me, and seems weird coming from him so early in their (non) relationship.

Oh, yes, that just threw me off. I get the whole Dangerous Men Are Attractive idea, but pulling it out after a cheesy flirt line when you've known the woman for all of a day or two seemed like poor pacing.
Having things be more easy-going with a more subtle take (show, don't tell!) on his instability for the first Act would have been better. Save the big, "you know I'm crazy and potentially dangerous and you're still sure you want to go through with this?" speeches for Act II when he's actually gotten to know what she's like and what she's looking for.

The trend with female player hetero-romances seems to be pulling back layers. We have to chip away that tough exterior to get the bits inside. We've also learned protagonists can't flirt worth a damn. Really Shepard, creepy smile, really?

Male Shep is so awkward.

For once I'd like to flirt without coming off like a creeper in some skeezy bar.

"I like men with dark pasts."

Really Hawke? That's your pick up line? You're a hot twenty-something. Not a 40 year old cougar who hasn't gotten laid in 5 years. That's your mom.

I'd love to see more from Hepler too, but apparently she's off on maternity leave now, so we're out of luck. there was something that was posted to another community yesterday, though, and I didn't see it posted here, so...

Thanks. It's always nice to hear from the people who enjoyed what we did with the game. Writing Anders was a very personal experience for me, and I've heard from a lot of people who were really affected by him, which is always exciting. I can't say much about our DLC plans, but we are definitely going for a different approach than Origins, with much more focus on the people you've spent so much time developing in the main game.

This. one of the biggest issues I had with his whole "I'll only hurt you" spiel was the fact that it started so soon after just meeting. It was like

Hawke: Hey you're kinda sexy how you doin'? *winks*
Anders: Please I cannot, I'll hurt you and even though I've only just met you I feel like our souls are embracing even though mine is tainted and cannot be given fully to yours which kills me inside knowing that I might hurt you and in fact I *know* I will hurt you which devastates me such is the strength of our connection.
Hawke: Wow ok, er, so, Darktown, not very Dark, what gives with *that* name eh *backs away* So, Isabela, how you doin'?

If it had come a bit later then that I think would have worked fine but as you both say, the fact that it came so soon it came across as a bit jarring to me.

Ach, still love the big ol' ball of crazy though Image IPB

Oooooooooo, I hope so too.  That would be so incredible.  The Leliana DLC was definitely one of my favs and I hoped to see more like that in the future.

I have actually wondered if it is possible...  Maybe super mega douche would work... but I doubt it.  He just can't rival Hawke.  Plus, how can you?  varric is the awesomest character in the whole game, he's even more awesome than Hawke.

Can't you see Varric as the Champion?

Varric: "Bianca, say hello to the Arishok!"

Bah. I'll just drag him everywhere and try to max him out before then. Again.

I can't get the console to work.

hm? Which warning?

I got the Morrigan "what if you had to choose between your love and something else." (I think she said duty or the world or something) but I didn't get anyone warning from Wynne. Unless you mean the "you might hurt him." dialogue which...was odd to say the least.

Yeah, the Wynne thing about "you might hurt him" and him being a prince, duties, Grey Wardening, nag nag nag, etc.  I just merrily brushed her off, made Anora queen, and ran off to live in Warden-y sin with Alistair.

Seriously, though, DA2 beats you over the head with the "BAD IDEA" sledgehammer when it comes to Anders.  And we all just skip past all the red lights and warning bells.

I always feel so sad for him when he thanks my Hawke, I'm like, dude, don't thank me for loving you and supporting you. This is not a favor I'm doing for you, don't you know that? But I hadn't given too much thought to how difficult it must be at times, because on the friendship path he seems to be holding it together fairly well in the scenes that we see after he almost kills the girl. But all those years in between then and blowing up the Chantry probably weren't all good times.

I know there's been days where I've wanted to cling to my SO and thank him for not leaving my crazypants-clad ass, so I kind of identify with Anders on that level.  Knowing that the family and friends of people with mood disorders sometimes get put through the emotional wringer, it's a encouraging to be able to RP a character that's seen what this man is capable of, seen what he's going through and still accepts and supports him.

It's part of why the rivalry romance makes me feel a little ill. Someone who is already mentally unstable and emotionally vulnerable getting put through the wringer just makes me feel a little nauseous. Good for those who like it, but I identify with the characters too strongly to enjoy it, despite the delicious drama.

I know how you feel oh to much.  I also think that why when I tried the rivalmance, I needed to stop. Not going to lie I felt like I was beating myself...then my boyfriend was like "You know Merrill really remind me of you!"  Then I was like "You think I am going to slit my wrists and summon demons?" He said yes in that cute way...I am forever scared.  But because I have...a "charming" personality. I relate to Anders not completely(thank goodness) but enough, that I too don't feel like hanging him out to dry.

Yes I am aware that's me more then likely putting to much of myself into a game, but oh well.  It's not like I will say anyone is wrong for hating him or loving his rivalmace.  To each their own.  I just don't like when people start saying opinions are wrong >_>

Also on the note of his "I am just going to hurt you." line.  I agree it did come a bit early when Hawke basically seems to be flirting harmlessly.  I can say when before I got into the relationship I am in now he did get the "Are you sure you know what you are getting into?" lol.  Still together after six years...I gues he did.

Seriously, to rival Varric, I totally did just red fist him with my douche Hawke.  During the Betrand quest, however, you have to mix it up some to make sure you get the appropriate points.  It's dependent too on if Anders is there with you or not.

I did not bring Anders along so that he could not check Betrand to see if he was possessed.  I then let Varric kill his brother.  I got rival points.

That moment totally brought out sassy gay friend in my Hawke.

"Wait! Slow down crazy!"

But I think it actually works for Anders newly merged character with Justice.  Justice's personality gives an intensity to everything Anders does and feels.  So his reaction in that moment is that he feels deeply for Hawke almost immediately and Justice's personality just amplifies his feelings onto a whole other level.  Where regular Anders would have flirted mercilessly with Hawke and joked to cover up the connection he was feeling, Justice Anders emotions are to the forefront...hence his speech at the moment in time.

Hence why Gaynders is clearly superior. He at least gets a little leg humping in before the drama

I totally agree.  I think from here on out all my M!hawkes are riding the cray cray train (note in edit:  you cannot ride a town, though I suppose you could but this is not that type of game) to Anders' pants.  I so much more prefer Gaynders.
