Hey... how come she stays out of this thread? Is it too scary in here?

She's made a few posts here, but this thing moves so fast I imagine she gave up following it a long time ago.

Or maybe she saw Mereanders?  j/k :P

Anders smirks at you

Not going to lie I felt like I was beating myself...then my boyfriend was like "You know Merrill really remind me of you!"  Then I was like "You think I am going to slit my wrists and summon demons?" He said yes in that cute way...I am forever scared.

Oh my god, my boyfriend said the exact same thing.  Merrill said something Merrill-ish and incredibly adorable, and he turned to me and was like, "I know you probably wish you were Hawke, but you're totally like Merrill."  And I was like, "Uh...thanks?" :?

I wouldn't want to deal with you lot and your shameboners while on maternity leave, either. Maker knows what it would do to the baby.

So, I'ma get my feminist hat on for a second and say that I am annoyed with the disparity between the beginnings of a F!Hawke/Anders relationship and a M!Hawke/Anders relationship. Not only do the dudes get an emotional tie-in to Tranquility, they also don't feel like their LI is dismissing their ability to make their own adult decisions. If it is a lampooning of expectations and tropes in romantic writing, that pisses me off, too. Strong women in video games that get to be as kick ass and well-written as Shep, the Warden and Hawke are a rarity. Don't make me feel like I'm being given lesser content at any point in the game because I prefer to play one sex over the other.

And I would say that it's not purposeful, but I have some issues with how the Alistair dumping/DR is handled with a female Warden. Infertility is A Thing for a lot of women and it seems either pointed or tone deaf for BW to have their lead male LI be able to dump a female character on the grounds that she can't give him the child he needs, and then turn around and force the same character into a position where lives can be saved by conceiving a baby and it has to be her lover/ex-lover's child with another woman.

Much as I hate to admit it, I'm a lot like Merrill.  I trip over things, squeak when alarmed, babble when I'm nervous, get obsessed and stay inside for days (usually over BioWare games), and tend to do things before I think them through all the way.

Though I'm at least not as socially awkward as Merrill, thank the Maker.

I honestly don't think I could compare myself to anyone in Dragon age II... maybe Varric, we have similair personalities. Except that i would need broader shoulders, more chest hair, a sweet looking crossbow and the ability to make women swoon by walking by.

Damn, I wish I was Varric.

Thanks. It's always nice to hear from the people who enjoyed what we did with the game. Writing Anders was a very personal experience for me, and I've heard from a lot of people who were really affected by him, which is always exciting. I can't say much about our DLC plans, but we are definitely going for a different approach than Origins, with much more focus on the people you've spent so much time developing in the main game.

Jennifer
Companion-specific DLC? I HOPE SO.
Hope so!
Maybe some mage underground action...or something that could give a better point of view about the situation of mages during those three years where things went downhill and he decided to take drastic measures.

I haven't played a M!Hawke. Does Anders tell him, "No!" when Hawke says he can take care of himself. I wanted to slap him after he said that to my F!Hawke.
Society , in general, is remarkably tone deaf when it comes to infertility - or even people who choose not to have children. I don't have kids. People will just walk up to me and ask me how many kids I have. Uh... none.
Oh, why not???
OMG NONE YA!!
It's not surprising to see the same stuff trotted out in games. Disappointing though.

Seriously, to rival Varric, I totally did just red fist him with my douche Hawke.  During the Betrand quest, however, you have to mix it up some to make sure you get the appropriate points.  It's dependent too on if Anders is there with you or not.

I did not bring Anders along so that he could not check Betrand to see if he was possessed.  I then let Varric kill his brother.  I got rival points.

Rival points that get canceled out the second I step outside the mansion. :( My FUUUUU face was pretty all consuming.

There I am being a complete douche and +15 friendship.

There's few enough rivarly points with him as is! Why do you have to cancel them out BW?!? :crying:

Apparently bringing Anders along and letting him kill Betrand gives you rivalry points as well. Ms. Kirby informed me of it and I checked. Still got canceled out though. :crying:

@SurelyForth: I can't agree more! DA games are one of the few games where I don't play a male first(the others are the NWN series..I love Valen to death!!!) So I was talking to a friend about the Anders romance, and he was like "You need to try the gaymance! so much better!" I was like o.O what? Low and behold he was right. I was angry. I completely felt like I missed something because I was a girl? Also Alistair's hidden harden thing had me seeing red as my canon Warden was a city elf. So I felt cheated to.

@Sable Rhapsody: It's like were sisters only I am socially awkward >_> I have mastered hanging back in the corner.

You don't get that conversation at all. He doesn't warn you or push you away when you flirt with him in that scene as a male Hawke.

I'm kind of hoping they just drop the "subjective sexuality" thing in future games. I mean, eh, having a full half of your group comprised of queers is statistically unrealistic, but the way it forces the writers to tip-toe around the issue of their sexuality with omissions sort of sucks. I'd rather have Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor than a nebulous mess that potentially robs players of character development depending on the sex they choose.

Nope.

He hits on m!Hawke pretty hard in the beginning. You don't get the NO I'LL HURT YOU stuff until Act II.

Then we can use blood magic while Anders is over our shoulders screaming how bad it is...

Which minus the demon, I could see Merrill stumbling and cutting herself and then blood magic.

He still does the dangerous burning hunk of hot mage who is going to HURT YOU thing, but not until after he goes to great lengths to slobber on your junk.
