Well, I think the "problem" comes from the rather disjointed timeline.

In Awakening, Anders didn't seem that old. I pegged him to be around the higher end of this mid-twenties.

At the start of DAII however, I'd agree that he seems to be more along the lines of his early thirties.

The issue with that though is that, not that much time passes between the end of Awakening and the start of DAII.

So, it could be that he is younger, but merging with Justice (and being a Warden) has artificially aged him.

That, or he was older in Awakening and his sexyness just made him seem younger. :3

Edit: I also figured Alistair to be between 24-26. *Shrugs*

He could look older because of how tired and worn he is, not to mention hardships.  That can age a person alone, at least thats how I look at him.  I didn't see him to be that old in Awakenings as well.

I'm probably a case in point of this. I'm fairly sure I lowball most of the companion's ages, and I'm not so unaware as to not realise that that's probably due to being younger myself. In Awakening I wouldn't have placed Anders over mid-twenties, and even at the start of DA2 I thought he looked more late twenties than anything. On the other hand, there's also some level of inconsistency between how old most of the female characters look compared to the males - I still get faintly weirded out that Carver is meant to be eighteen, so it may even be difficult to get a good idea based purely on appearance.

He certainly comes across as older in the DA2 but he has a lot to deal with what with the taint and Justice etc. tbh I don't really know and I suppose it's left as pretty subjective by the writers because of the large age range of the players. 
Though Hawke we know to be anywhere from 19-24, I feel she's prolly about 22ish as she seems considerably maturer than either Carver or Bethany, but everyone else seems to be pretty subjective in general and I've seen posts covering quite large age ranges for the companions, which I'm sure is affected by the age of the player.

I actually just loaded up Awakening and loaded various dialogue points (yes, I have quite a few saves right before dialogue points for various companions, usablly labeled things like "Anders (Statue)", "Anders (Pie)"...) and thinking on it, I might have to change my opinion.

I think it's vary possible for Anders to be in his 28th or 29th year in Awakening. It's funny how hindsight works, isn't it?

For the most part, I don't think I lowball ages, at least not usually. It can be hard with some characters though. That said, I'm rather young myself (21), but I'd like to think I make some reasonable guesses. Having a thing for older men helps balance it out.

Anders still seems to be at the last years of the early adulthood stage. He's temperamental, a bit impulsive, impervious, and unswerving. Assuredly, he has more experience than Hawke, but not so much that a great gap in age exists between them. I'd at least put him at 28.

Physically, the hairline isn't necessarily indicative of being older. A lot of people look older than they really are. The lines around his eyes could also just be a sign of stress. I mean, we're talking about a guy who selflessly dedicates his days healing people while draining his own energy. I'd imagine that kind of activity naturally generates physiological changes.

I'm sorry if my post came across as patronising in any way about the whole player age/companion age thing, it's just something that genuinely I find quite interesting. Have to say, yet another thing I like about DA games is how open to varying interpretations characters and story are, even something as trivial as character age. As I say, to me, Anders is early 30s, for another player he's early 20s and I love both/neither are correct

Well at the end of the day, unless Bioware publish the ages it is pretty much subjective, which I agree is a good thing and probably why they don't publish it. Everyone can have an opinion and no one is wrong

Not at all!  I do think it's a very legitimate point, and it's pretty interesting how factors such as age can vary how the character is interpreted or not factor in at all.
