Here in England it's very rare to find anyone who's snipped (unless you're obviously dating around a jewish community) probably because we're all dirty peasants. Which leads me to agree that I doubt anyone is snipped in the world of Dragon Age... it all seems very earthy and 'au natural' but you never know what the Chantry gets up to! Maybe they snip mages in the circle? Maybe the foreskin is just another path for demons... MY GOD I'M ONTO SOMETHING.

@Pentan It's never really been the "norm" in Australia - and it's certainly out of fashion here now, if you can call it that. The only guys I've been with who have been have been Jewish.

.... and the demon part of your post has me chortling far too much than I should be. I always figured if it was the norm for anyone in Thedas it would be some sort of cultural thing - so maybe the Elves do it, or the Dwarves, but not the humans - or vice-versa !

Yeah, I also got the impression it's pretty common in the US, but less common on this side of the pond, except of course in Islamic and Jewish communities. Which exist in Europe, but they're not the majority.

Man, I always wander into this thread during the strangest conversations. As to why it's the norm in America...I have no idea. I'm not even sure how much "norm" is the right word. I think it depends on what area of the country you live in, cultural background, etc. But I agree with the Anders being unsnipped part. Not that I'd thought about it before.

This idea delights me more than it should!

Also, I'm pretty sure unsnipped is the norm in Australia, at least for my generation. Don't know what the trend is for babies born nowadays, though.

As I understand it there's also a fairly big drive among armies fighting wars in Islamic nations atm. For hygeine reasons they're getting a lot of squaddies to get the cut. I once went to a day-procedures clinic for a biopsy and there were about 40 army blokes recovering.

Yeah, but there's no reason to assume it's part of the Chantry's creed. Not all religions are down with it, after all. Some even consider it mutilation.

The white chantry is sort of run by women after all. I would not be surprised if they would gladly make all the wanna-be-priests go through something like this. But you're right there's no indiciation and I'm just teasing ^^ Maybe the procedure doesn't exist in Thedas at all. 

And as for trends and such, I worked for these social workers for a summer (they were all women) and most of them had been working with children in poor countries alot in their youth and literally all their sons had been circumcised just for hygenic reasons etc. But it's definitely not the norm.

I always thought Anders in Awanening was somewhere from 25 to 30, but not more. WE coult try to speculate and make calculations based on the number of times he escaped from the tower thought.
Anyhow, I would still place him in the last twenties, early thirdies in DA2..which makes him a bit older than Hawke, but it's perfectly cool with me
