They made it pretty much impossible NOT to want to be a mage in DA2.
Why? Because the storyline would be so much better if you were.
I mean, they give you this wicked awesome abilities, the Robes of the Champion are sweet, and they pretty much say in the guide that it's the best class in DA2. Kinda like rogue was in Origins, for those who didn't feel like having the slowest damn gameplay ever. I tried to be a two handed warrior in Origins. The enemy would get four hits on me before I even got one.

You know it's funny. I've never played a Mage in Origins. I loved them as companions sure, and I controled them enough of the time that I liked the playstyle. I just, you know, never wanted to be a mage.
Whatever posessed my to make my first [and canon] Hawke a mage is beyond me, but Maker am I glad I did.
Ever since, I've wanted to go back and do an Origins/Awakening playthrough with an Amell, just because. :3
I've played a couple of mages part way through DA:O before abandoning them to go play another rogue - they were fun, like you say, but it was never really my class. Wasn't until DA2 came out that I really wanted to finish a run so I can have Cait Amell and Amelia Hawke, the mage cousins with strangely parallel lives.
Yeah, yeah, could use an import generator, but where's the fun in that? So much easier to get a proper feel for the character by doing a full run. Besides, this gives me a reason to replay Awakening and Witch Hunt.

yes, this. I loved my DW Warrior Warden. She was my canon Warden. Being
able to weild two full sized swords was the best thing ever. I was so
sad when I couldn't DW as a warrior any more in 2. Luckily DA2 has much
faster 2H warriors than Origins did.
That said... I haven't made a single mage Hawke. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/bandit.png[/smilie]

Nope, me as well.
My last Awakening playthrough, when we met with the Queen and Oghren declared he was going to become a Warden, I said no and Conscripted Anders. Oghren was jealous and pissy...and then he went away, and it was glorious. I told Velanna to take a hike too, just 'cause. My character selection screen for the final battle didn't really leave much to debate over.
"uuhhhhh....Sigrun, defend the whole keep by yourself, okay bye!" *skips away with boys*
LMFAO.
I love Oghren, just because he's so loud and drunk and just doesn't give a ****.
Just like my love for Jack (in ME2), loud and angry and just doesn't give a ****. And wants to fight things. A lot. I am weak to her charms.
Plus Oghren had some funny ass dialogue in Origins. Seriously, like me laughing on the floor rolling around hysterically funny. And his banter with Anders? Equally funny.

Nothing to do with the lack of a shirt then?I've not actually played ME2 myself, I'll reserve judgement!
Oh, I find Oghren hilariously funny, it's just that's all he is. His attitude to other things annoys me. Hence small doses. It has nothing to do with not being able to complete his companion quest in Awakening, nope.

Exactly! I still haven't done an Amell playthrough, but I plan too sometime soon. I roleplay all my characters and keep little notes on them. Using a generator just isn't any fun. So many missed oppertunites to really get in touch with mysplit personalitescharacters.
Yeah I was the same, I always had Anders in my party, even when my warden was a mage she wouldn't go anywhere without her trusty mage sidekick. She was absolutely dedicated to Alistair though and while she had a lot of love for Anders it was definitely just the friendship kind (while me as a player was like "Argh why can't we romance him!), so that friendship was just that, no source of frustration there. Velanna was pretty much placed in the Vigil's Keep kiddy corner and left to entertain herself, never took her anywhere, just found her character grating. Other than Anders, I would swap around having Sigrun (too cute! And I liked her banter with Anders), Justice, Nathaniel (on the games I did recruit him of course!) and very occasionally Oghren.YamiSnuffles wrote...
I sometimes feel bad for the other Awakening companions because I just took whomever I liked most to the last battle. So, while I didn't need Anders and he would have survived at the Keep if I left him, there was no way I was going to be without him in the end. I rotated out most everyone else throughout the game, but I always had Anders with me. Thus, Valenna disappeared in the end because there was no way I was going to swap out Anders.

The save game generator is bugged with mage creations anyway, unless it's been fixed since I last used it. I tried to generate an Amell import, and it seems like no matter what, it flags any mage creations as DWARVES of all things. Elthina kept going on about how a dwarf had saved Ferelden...
...sure was nice of that stupid dwarf to free the Circle I guess. <_<

I hardly notice she's topless, because of all her damn tattoos.
Plus, if I were to go lesboShep on anyone in there, it would be Tali'Zorah.
Awwwyeah.

*raises hand* Three complete games, haven't finished DA2 as a mage yet. They're more fun than in Origins, sure, but I don't think it's necessary to play one to fully enjoy the game.
There's something fun in having a character with no magical ability getting involved in the politics of the city. You've got your mage sister and two potential mage love interests to give you a reason to fight for their side, even knowing that as a normal person you could just walk away from the problem unharmed.
Both ways have plenty of drama, I just like that I can get a different-but-still-good sort than being an apostate and making a name for yourself.
That, and I haven't seen any robes in DA2 that I actually like. At least the mage champion armor doesn't have that stupid rag skirt thing that the rogue armor gets. <_<

Why is it I can think of my Warden in a perfectly, non-perverted way. But someone says they made Alistair dual wield swords and the first place my mind goes is a very, very dirty place.

There you go again, saying exactly what I want to say.
I have a mage going in DA2, but I'm not that interested in her. The only thing she's given me to work with is that she'll probably end up with Fenris or Merrill.
