The BioWare team is happy to announce the 3am EST / 12am PST launch of Dragon Age II! (see your local retail store for participation details and to get your copy! Please note that EST will be doing midnight launches but the game will not be available for play until 3am EST.)

My game won't be here for a day or two, likely. So I have no personal stake in this. That said, if you do a midnight release, it would make sense to set the 'release control' to the first timezone to enter midnight. There is then the chance that people in the later ones might get their game early, but it's doubtful. Most retailers abide by rules without silly programs like this to enforce it.
And if they did, it'd be 3 hours at best, in this particular situation.
Thank you, but I'm quite educated when it comes to time zones, thus if you read I posted that they gave an access time of 0000H US time. Which is Midnight EST.
Thank you for attacking me personally, because you have nothing to do but be a fanboy. Hey I'm a fanboy too, but I just stood out in the cold for over an hour to get my copy from my Gamestop, and I'm a bit peeved that the promised unlock time isnt being met.
..er... quote the wrong person? I'm agreeing with you.

(Obligatory) Madness? THIS... IS... KIRKWALL!!
Anywhoo, remember what our darling Leli once said, "The forbidden fruit is all the sweeter, no?" Just do some slight tweaking and you get, "The fruit that is delayed needlessly for hours because the producer was too lazy to bother factoring in individual timezones for the fruit's release date is moderately more enjoyable." Has the same ring to it and everything!

They should have marketed it like this:

Bathesda did the same thing with Fallout New Vegas it was announced as Midnight unlock but in reality it was based on PST midnight.

They stated 0000h Military time. That is Midnight EST. No where did they change that active time. Except for in the software they launched after people waited in the cold to get their copies. So any time zone is correct, but BioWare picked 0000h. All I ask is they live to their word and let us access it in that time zone.
0000h isn't necessarily midnight EST... it's midnight in whatever time zone they are stating from.
Honestly, having it unlock at Pacific is kind of foolish on Bioware's part... or maybe it's EA. Anyway, if they had it unlock at midnight Eastern, the east coast peeps would be able to play it at midnight... and the west coast peeps would get it a little early. People would whine and moan in that circumstance as well about the "unfairness of it all" but at least everyone in the US/Canada would be able to play it "at midnight".

Sorry but its like Fernando Melo said its the brick and mortal store dictating and place physical rules on the digital versions to avoid a retailer having direct competition. If you didn't want it like this could have picked up the console version. Couple hours and we will all be able to play and it will be there for us to play whenever we want.
That would make sense ...
However, Bioware is having a midnight release party of their own.
One in which, at midnight in Edmonton, no one that acutally gets their copy will be able to play either.
I'm a bit shocked Bioware would overlook something so glaring, or maybe the PC version of DA2 is such a minority of their sales that they simply dont care.
Either way, I'd love to be at that release party and watch everyone go "Uh, it says we cant play it..durrr".

Oops! Sorry we didn't tell you that you couldn't actually play the game at midnight unless you were one of the 8% of the world's entire population that lives on the west coast. Our bad.
Bioware CS has really been getting worse and worse ever since joining up with EA. Other games have12:00 AM launches, but I guess that Bioware spent too much time pretending to give us "epic" dialog choices between being Jesus and Satan that they forgot the finer points of customer service.
Fanbois are irritating. But I guess that's to be expected on a Bioware forum.

This is poor form, and I hope to god it isnt the same for Mass Effect 3, or I'm done with BioWare PC games.
Not even Blizzard was dumb enough to do this to Cata / Starcraft 2 people, they launched at Midnight, the games were out and it was playable by 1am.
