Sorry but its like Fernando Melo said its the brick and mortal store dictating and place physical rules on the digital versions to avoid a retailer having direct competition. If you didn't want it like this could have picked up the console version. Couple hours and we will all be able to play and it will be there for us to play whenever we want.
That would make sense ...
However, Bioware is having a midnight release party of their own.
One in which, at midnight in Edmonton, no one that acutally gets their copy will be able to play either.
I'm a bit shocked Bioware would overlook something so glaring, or maybe the PC version of DA2 is such a minority of their sales that they simply dont care.
Either way, I'd love to be at that release party and watch everyone go "Uh, it says we cant play it..durrr".
I agree it was a bit of a screw up on Bioware for not looking further into it and I am not sure why they couldn't make it timezone specific. COuldn't they have made it so when we click release date check and it go to the server and it checks our IP and the area we are in and then it says Yes its 0 hour or no its not. Instead of this based on PST because its simple.

If only it worked like that. SecuROM does an online time check, not with your computer's time.Nooneyouknow13 wrote...
Given the way the release date check works, had it unlocked at midnight EST, I could simply have changed my PC timezone to EST and played at 9, which would have been even more unfair to you folks on the east coast who have to work in the morning.

Wrong.
Release date time check (Via SecurROM at least) uses *their* servers to check time, not yours. Your time dosent matter.
If it did, dont you think we could set our time *ahead* 3 hours and simply play?
It should just do a simple IP check and see what time zone your coming from. Can it be faked by a pirate here and there? Sure. But your not screwing the vast majority of your PC customers, and screwing your very own launch party.

Grow up, we had this information posted before hand, and you still decided to go to a midnight release. The people whinning in this thread don't have any sort of moral high ground.
I do have a moral highground. Show me where, anywhere, on my gamestop receipt that says "Your game will be available to play after pickup at 12am est"
That's pretty much a line for line. Now, they are a retailer, and have conducted business with me, and promised me a working product at midnight est time. No where when I purchased my product, did it say, that I had to wait until some timeframe to access it.
Take a look at the back of the box - it dosent say anywhere that the game is only accessable after midnight pst. Now as a retailer in the state I live in, you have to disclose these things, such as activation time, and it was disclosed by Gamestop - the second party affiliate that EA chose to represent their product with.
I have a moral highground, more so - being that console versions of the same product are unlocked and playable. It's a horrible double standard, and I hope that EA moving forward will not continue this practice.

This is seriously poor sportsmanship on Bioware's part.
If they want to midnight launch a game @est, then est players who paid for their legitimate copies should be able to go home and play the game they legally paid money for.
We waited, we didn't download leaked copies and paid, now live up to your part Bioware and let us access our content.
I have to wait twelve and a half hours for mine, you can wait a mere three for yours.
Well I can't play until the end of the month, maybe you can wait until then? This argument is absurd.

Heh. People complaining because they can't play at midnight. Hmph. Kids these days! Why, in MY day we didn't have this fancy shmancy 'digital download'! Why, we had to wait until the STORES OPENED at 10 am the next day! Then walk UPHILL 20 miles, both ways! To get to to the store, wait in line, wait for the sadist clerk to go in the back and 'see if they have any boxes in', pay for it, load the game up on the computer, and THEN download any patches! Play at midnight? Heck, we were lucky to play before midnight the next day! Dang blasted whippersnappers doan' know how good they got it!
Who said digital? I went to a midnight opening of a gamestop, waited in line, stood around for 30 minutes for midnight and then drove home.
If I knew it was pointless, I wouldn't have cared and just waited till tomorrow. Instead BioWare set up my hopes to play, let me waste a couple of hours, and then decides to screw me when I get home. If they want to do a release check, fine, but have it end the day before, or at GMT. Sure, some people will play it early here or there, but as with the majority of extensive DRM, this just pisses off legitimate customers.

Why and how is that fair...now I cant play until tomorrow and pacific people can play right at midnight
There's nothing good about living on the east coast, ever.
I quite enjoy reading the complaints, it shows who is new to PC gaming and who Isn't. SecuRom and DRM has done this to PC's for a good while now. You can only beat a dog so much untill it gets used to it.
Stop blaming Bioware, it is not their fault, itS EA's. Honestly we are lucky we didnt get full-fledged SecuRom, as its the next worse thing to Hitler's "final solution".
