Right after installing and asking the game to run after running the configuration, I recieve this error.

The program or feature "\\??\\C:\\Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\DragonAge2.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibity (it's spelling, not mine lol) with 64-bit versions of Windows. please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit windows compatible version is availible.

Now when I try to press play, nothing happens. It asked for permession to launch something right as I told it to play, and my antivirus seemed to freak out then it gave me that error above. I have a retail copy from gamestop, the signature edition.

I'm on Vista 64 bit, going to try to reinstall again to check to see what pops up and write it down, as well as having my antivirus off.

POSSIBLE FIX

I've FINALLY solved my problem. The
reason why Windows 7 was saying that it was incompatible with the dragon
age2.exe file was, I think, because of my AVG blocking the dragon age2
activation and listing it as a Vundo virus.

Now, what I did was I
went to AVG settings, went to the "exceptions" tab under Resident
Shield then added this line to the "add path" tab:
C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempmtka_tmp

That should unblock the activation application. After that I just authenticated and activated my copy of DA2.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Dunno if this helped too, but I downloaded and installed the Nvidia beta drivers too.

Also, uninstall and reinstall the game, people have trouble getting the authentication application to run unless it's a fresh install.

Corruption. Hopefully you have the retail copy; or get ready to re-download the whole file over again.

I do (have the retail copy), so I just return it back to the store I got it from? Anyone know what to do if they're out?

It's a signature edition, do I have to unregister my old copy in order to get the new one appropriately applied to my account?

Ok, so admin rights asks about

"Release Control
Sony DADC Austria AG
.../dragonage2_activation.exe"

Then it proceeds to give me the error above. Anyone else encountering this?

The game files are encrypted until it activates.. the only non encrypted file is the game launcher. When the game is launched itself.. it should trigger the activation check to make sure your computer's time zone AND IP address to check your region.. then it unlocks if the unlock time has passed....

It means the game won't run at all until it is activated over the internet and passes the release date check... but from what I saw of the OP.. that's not exactly how it's supposed to go. You should fire up the launcher, config the game.. go back to launcher.. hit play.. then do the activation check.. if you pass the game should play.. if you FAIL. .it should tell you WHEN you can play

Yeah I went to configuration and redid that and it had no problems but when I go to hit play nothing happens.

From what I can tell our error is different, There is another error with the times, but I never get to that part. Mine just says its incompatible with windows 64 bit, and dies.

I am getting that same error each time I reinstall and try to play. Afterwords it will not do anything when play is clicked. It says there is a compatibility error for 64 bit. Has anyone with Vista 64 bit been able to get it to work?

If it was the entire operating system dieing there would be a LOT more complaints, so I dont think its that, but do you have the signature edition? that might be the problem as it seems to be a common trend.

I do, but I can't believe that this is something they would have overlooked. All I could find was this kind of problem from Origins in the forums.
