Got my game working. Had to do a clean boot. Something in my start up was blocking DA2.

Alright. I have the Signature Edition and I'm running it on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32 bit. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650. I have the latest drivers. I've reinstalled the game but I'm still getting the same problem. I click play, and it says "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working." Every single time. My firewall has it permitted it to do whatever, and I don't even have any antivirus software whatsoever that would be in the way. I even got past the release date check. I tried running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 and everything else, NOTHING WORKS! I changed it to DX9 instead of 11 and NOTHING WORKS! I am thoroughly disappointed. I even played the Demo on PC just fine!

So I was attempting wowwillies idea. Now for some reason my temp file just wasn't there. I don't know why. I did a manual search for Dragonage's file "mtka_tmp" I opened this file when my PC directed me to it, and despite following the file path, it still just wasn't there. To fix this, I did this.

I disabled my avg resident shield temporarily. I opened the file mtka_tmp and clicked "Dragonage2_activation" I followed the prompts to check the date built into DA2's anti piracy crap. One I had done this, and showed my PC that it was legit by following the above steps, the game launched. I turned back on Resident Shield and am now playing.

I am sure not everyone will have to follow this much crap to get it through, but for those that do have the same issue as myself, there ya be.

POSSIBLE FIX

wowwilly629 wrote...

I've FINALLY solved my problem. The
reason why Windows 7 was saying that it was incompatible with the dragon
age2.exe file was, I think, because of my AVG blocking the dragon age2
activation and listing it as a Vundo virus.

Now, what I did was I
went to AVG settings, went to the "exceptions" tab under Resident
Shield then added this line to the "add path" tab:
C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempmtka_tmp

That should unblock the activation application. After that I just authenticated and activated my copy of DA2.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Dunno if this helped too, but I downloaded and installed the Nvidia beta drivers too.

Also, uninstall and reinstall the game, people have trouble getting the authentication application to run unless it's a fresh install.

That was what my AVG was always catching.  Just wish I would have kept following my hunch on that.  Attempting a reinstall and I will see how it all goes.

Ok. So I've installed the game, but when I click Play on the launcher, nothing happens. The launcher closes, and nothing starts up.

It's not a virus, it's AVG thinking it's a virus

That depends on whether you consider Sony DRM to be a virus or not.

Sony has employed rootkits as a copy protection scheme before, as a matter of fact, not to mention stealing other peoples' code for use in its DRM schemes.

http://en.wikipedia....rootkit_scandal

Why so many good development companies make the choice of going with EA I will never understand, but as long as they do we will have no choice but to deal with their crapware being illicitly installed on our computers in order to legally play the games we want.

P.S.: You can try this, it worked for me:

Reinstall, and disallow the Sony DRM crap from running on your computer the first time, then the second time allow it to run. I don't know why it worked, but it did. Now I just have to find out why my Black Emporium and Exalted Prince won't register.

Important information:

For those who are using ANY OTHER ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM, please ensure that their protection scheme does not include any sort of defensive measure against some forms of DRM.

Bioware/EA's form of release activation involves processes that, to many AV's, come out as malicious, because of their nature. I've had to temporarily disable my AV just to activate.

For Comodo AV users, temporarily disable Defense+, directions should be available at the Comodo AV forums. Let it activate, let the game load up and run into its main menu, close the game and reactivate Defense+.

Bioware/EA, you guys needed to have tested this more thorougly. A lot of headaches would have been avoided.

Clean boot.

Click on start menu - type in MSCONFIG in the search bar or from Run - Select "Selective Startup"

Click "Load start up items" off then go to services tab, click the box that says "Hide all Microsoft Services" (IMPORTANT) - Then all that is left is your user loaded services, click disable all. Reboot system. Clean Boot.

This is yet another example of what happens to customers when game publishers force DRM on us. Of course, you will see a cracked version of the game within a week, because DRM does nothing to stop pirates, it only creates a hindrance for legitimate, paying customers when the DRM software (from Sony, who are notorious for TERRIBLE DRM software) does not run properly on 64-bit Windows.

In a week? It was out the 8th of March. I feel completly stupid for buying games tbh.

I still am having problems, I have disabled my firewall and avg, I have uninstalled and re-installed about 3 times and still when I click on Play...small screen pops up, closes and nothing happens, I don't seem to be able to do the 'release date check' unless I've done it without knowing...Can anyone give any other suggestions?

Ok so I solved my problem, for me it wasn't enough to just disable AVG for the time of installing, I had to create the pathway exception on AVG then go the the actual Activation application found in appdata\\local\\temp\\mtka_tmp. Thanks for Wowwilly629 for the fix, took me a while since i'm not that great at computers but in the end it worked Yay!

Glad to hear of some success. I've added WowWilly's fix to the official sticky thread - http://social.biowar...0/index/6442590

I'm going to lock this thread now. Please continue the discussion (and share any further fixes) with the users in the official thread. Thanks!
