I used amazon and it worked for me

I agree that admin rights seem like the most likely culprit but not sure

I bought the DVD from Amazon. Once the installer was on the Desktop, I ran it in a non-admin account and supplied an admin username and password when prompted. I'm now running the game as a non-admin user.

This thread holds an admittedly small sample of user experiences, but nonetheless, the variety in what works or doesn't makes me think the underlying cause has nothing to do with *any* of the supplied solutions.

Majin: What mac do you have? Did you buy a digital download or DVD?

Sorry, was at work.

I got the DVD from my store's midnight launch. Tried several times, and no luck. Wish Bioware would provide an installer fix or something. I already submitted a ticket and they haven't gotten back to me.

EDIT: Also, I'm not experienced with the iMac, so I've no idea how to change admin rights for a certain program, so any aid I can get for that would also help greatly. I'm in the process of trying to install now.

EDIT2: Mac is 2.8GHz i5 8 GB RAM with ATI Radeon HD 5750.

Whoa, suddenly install works now. Very strange anomaly in installation. It seems to happen constantly and 1 random time it works or something. Why is the installer malfunctioning like this, I wonder?

EDIT: Just keep trying to install it, guys. Eventually you'll get lucky and it'll install.

I had the same issue with installing. Thou after registering on Bioware and logging out and in on the account. I had no issue with it from then.

If it just re-trying over and over to get it working what a pain, but it should be a issue they can fix.

I've try anything I could saw in this web, but the problem still the same. Looks like that I'll have to wait for BioWare to do something.
Had mail to EA and now waiting for their reply too.

None of the solutions provided seem to be an actual solution. My guess is that installation is just buggy and perhaps after 100 tries it will work once... Bioware please fix this or say that you are looking at it. Sucks to buy the game with being said it will work on Macs and it doesn't. I have the year old MacBook Pro with the most up to date OS....

Exectly the same problem with the german release of DA2. Installer crashes after gathering file information right before copying files to the harddrive. I tried /Applications and ~/Applications as installation directory, same result (crash with same dump already posted here).

You are using the default location right? I dont' remember what my program asked (and I don't want to test again!), I used the default location and it installed it into /Applications/Dragon Age 2/dragon age2.app

Yes, I tried the default location and a folder in my user directory. My account has admin rights and the installer asks for authentification of an admin. But still does not work. Currently I try a live supprt chat with support, I hope they can help.

Yeah I'm grasping at straws there seem to be no specific reason for this failure. I think the install app has memory allocation issues :-(

Not sure this is the right thread. Where are you located? I'm in us but I thought Europe wasn't launching until tomorrow? Probably better to start a new thread on the subject.

I just got the install to work. There was no apparent solution, it just suddenly decided to work after about two days of on and off install attempts.

urgh... well it's good to hear that retrying work and have fun playing (I am!). I wonder what the differences where. Did you restart the computer? Did you run more or less other apps at the same time?

I also finally got the install to work. I'm with the other folks... seems completely random. I tried everything, from repairing disk permissions to check admin permissions, rebooting, removing/reinserting the CD, sudo commands, copying the installer to the desktop... nothing. Then today I just randomly decided to try again and it just magically worked. I did nothing different this time to get it working.

I know it's frustrating, but for those who haven't gotten it to work yet, just keep trying.

Cool. I'm glad people are getting through it. Can only imagine how much time it's taking and how frustrating it must be. Well if you want to see issues take a peek on the PC boards. Man and I thought the Mac version had issues.

I agree that we have no clue what's going wrong and the only advice currently is "try again". That and a glass of wine :-/

Just adding another voice on constant install fails despite a variety of maneuvers.

Oddly, errors vary between Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) and SIGBUS errors.

Have tried to install >20 times ... frustrating.

Things I tried: zapping PRAM, new account, verifying disk, repairing permissions ... any other ideas?

Using activity monitor it always seems to crash right when the free RAM hits zero, even thought inactive RAM is >1GB. So I ran ifreeMem simultaneously (not sure if that is a great idea), which appeared to convert inactive to active RAM ok during install, but the install still crashed.

Anyone out there with success? (And yes, I registered and copied installer to desktop, just because!)

Being a programmer I'm trying to figure out what the cause of this could be. And this is all speculation.

It seems from the SIGBUS error that the program is trying to read from an illegal (odd) RAM location. Normally an error of this type tend to be pretty consistent (i.e the program is wrong) but here it only happens sometimes. This could be if the program has not initialized some variables but still assumes a "default" value (like '0'). So if the program is lucky it gets the default assumed '0' value but at times it gets something else (i.e what was already stored in the memory location when it was previously used).

If this is true then the program will randomly crash and randomly work depending what's in the memory location it allocated memory from. The exact location and what's stored there will change over time.

This could be why the program all of a sudden works.

There is no real fix if this is true but perhaps trying to install and in between doing other stuff (i.e installing back to back probably will give the same result as the RAM content doesn't change enough). Heck even a restart and then install might fix it as a boot will reinitialize the RAM.

Issues like these are notoriously annoying to track down.

I'm having a similiar problem, my installer crashes every time at "Gathering list of files to be installed". I've tried everything in this thread but no dice :/.
Running it with sudo through terminal did however make the installer crash in a more verbose way. I have no idea what it is complaining about, but perhaps someone else could divine something useful from it.

So it is running out of RAM and not dealing with it well. This is strange as people with 8G is still seeing it. So from your error it more seems strictly memory related. Not that an installer should need this much memory but it does.

Best chance is probably to quit all open apps and try to free as much memory as possible in the hope that it will work. :-(
