Installation failing...

I agree that admin rights seem like the most likely culprit but not sure

This thread holds an admittedly small sample of user experiences, but nonetheless, the variety in what works or doesn't makes me think the underlying cause has nothing to do with *any* of the supplied solutions.

Majin: What mac do you have? Did you buy a digital download or DVD?
Sorry, was at work.
I got the DVD from my store's midnight launch. Tried several times, and no luck. Wish Bioware would provide an installer fix or something. I already submitted a ticket and they haven't gotten back to me.
EDIT: Also, I'm not experienced with the iMac, so I've no idea how to change admin rights for a certain program, so any aid I can get for that would also help greatly. I'm in the process of trying to install now.
EDIT2: Mac is 2.8GHz i5 8 GB RAM with ATI Radeon HD 5750.

EDIT: Just keep trying to install it, guys. Eventually you'll get lucky and it'll install.

If it just re-trying over and over to get it working what a pain, but it should be a issue they can fix.

Exectly the same problem with the german release of DA2. Installer crashes after gathering file information right before copying files to the harddrive. I tried /Applications and ~/Applications as installation directory, same result (crash with same dump already posted here).
You are using the default location right? I dont' remember what my program asked (and I don't want to test again!), I used the default location and it installed it into /Applications/Dragon Age 2/dragon age2.app

Yes, I tried the default location and a folder in my user directory. My account has admin rights and the installer asks for authentification of an admin. But still does not work. Currently I try a live supprt chat with support, I hope they can help.
Yeah I'm grasping at straws there seem to be no specific reason for this failure. I think the install app has memory allocation issues :-(

Not sure this is the right thread. Where are you located? I'm in us but I thought Europe wasn't launching until tomorrow? Probably better to start a new thread on the subject.

I agree that we have no clue what's going wrong and the only advice currently is "try again". That and a glass of wine :-/

Oddly, errors vary between Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) and SIGBUS errors.
Have tried to install >20 times ... frustrating.

Using activity monitor it always seems to crash right when the free RAM hits zero, even thought inactive RAM is >1GB. So I ran ifreeMem simultaneously (not sure if that is a great idea), which appeared to convert inactive to active RAM ok during install, but the install still crashed.
Anyone out there with success? (And yes, I registered and copied installer to desktop, just because!)

It seems from the SIGBUS error that the program is trying to read from an illegal (odd) RAM location. Normally an error of this type tend to be pretty consistent (i.e the program is wrong) but here it only happens sometimes. This could be if the program has not initialized some variables but still assumes a "default" value (like '0'). So if the program is lucky it gets the default assumed '0' value but at times it gets something else (i.e what was already stored in the memory location when it was previously used).
If this is true then the program will randomly crash and randomly work depending what's in the memory location it allocated memory from. The exact location and what's stored there will change over time.
This could be why the program all of a sudden works.
There is no real fix if this is true but perhaps trying to install and in between doing other stuff (i.e installing back to back probably will give the same result as the RAM content doesn't change enough). Heck even a restart and then install might fix it as a boot will reinitialize the RAM.
Issues like these are notoriously annoying to track down.

Running it with sudo through terminal did however make the installer crash in a more verbose way. I have no idea what it is complaining about, but perhaps someone else could divine something useful from it.

Best chance is probably to quit all open apps and try to free as much memory as possible in the hope that it will work. :-(
