The combat has let me down a little bit, not the changes from Origins-the faster pace is great, but the content of them mostly. Most fights just come down to a wall of whatever trying to hack you to pieces...15 elves, wave after wave of mercs in a single back alley, etc. About 8 hours in and very few fights have been exciting. There are a lot of "FFS quit coming" moments after you kill a dozen baddies in a single room/area and they just keep dropping from the sky.

Not saying it isn't fun, just a little more "meh" than I was hoping.

I'm being driven crazy by how I can't ever seem to not make characters go back and forth on rivalry and friendship. I know you need to be on one side or the other, but Aveline, for example, seems to consider you a rival for the oddest things but a friend for other things... which means you just see-saw back and forth. I'm picking the options that feel 'right' instead of catering to a companion. You honestly seem to be PUNISHED For being consistent that way. The Friendship/Rivalry system sounded interesting at first, but it's so much more frustrating in the end and I feel like I'm going to end up betrayed or abandoned by everyone just for trying to be rational and not cruel. :(

I'm starting to understand more about the people and Sten, I now understand his honor code and how seriously his people take things. It was truely eye opening to watch as I escorted one of their people out of town, then after all my efforts he ended up casting a spell on himself killing him. I was in awe as the flames burned him up.

I am enjoying the storyline twist so far. The Blood Mage pops out of nowhere, the shy nervous girl you would never suspect and she is doing flemath's bidding.

I do wish a few things. I wish the quests were a bit more orgainzed. When I say that I mean a steady flow to a certain goal. I'm still trying to get inside Kirtkwall and it just appears like Im doing side quests almost randomly. I hope that I can soon get inside the city.

The graphics are amazing. These are what games should be. This is a bad ass RPG. The questline may not be clear, though the graphics look amazing, flawless and something I have never seen they really took it up to the next level.

Surprisingly liking it so far, but I wish they hadn't focused it for HDTVs. I can barely read the text on things and the aspect is skewed, so it's a all squished looking on my tiny TV. And I can't even adjust that in the settings.

That's my only complaint so far, I hope that it's the last though. I miss some of the old elements, but I'm not gonna let that ruin this game.

I just finished the 'Long Way Home' quest and all I have to say is:

Hooooooooo SNAP!!! The old lady outfoxed her daughter and The Warden! She may be evil, but that gal is like a chess master, always 2 steps ahead.

I'm only a few (3-4) hours in, but I'm loving it so far. I don't know what everyone was complaining about the game just being a button masher now. If you aren't paying attention you can get owned on normal. I'm having fun with my rogue. I am building him all dual wield and subterfuge, so I just kinda dance around the battlefield and fight - its great. Thanks for giving me another great game Bioware!

I am suprised to find that after playing around with the character creater, that I have decided to go with the default Lady Hawke. Bioware has created a default character that actually feels very right. Only thing I wish is that you could tamper with the hair and eye colors on the defaults.

And skin tone! Ive always wondered why does everyone in the Dragon Age world have to be so pastey white? Youd think that, given the time period, everyone would be outside more often and thus have a bit more skin pigment, but then again, maybe bioware did it to more reflect all of us gamers who never see the sun Image IPB

Anyways, my thoughts on DA2..... LET ME OUT OF KIRKWALL!!! Im loving the game so far but please bioware, for the love of god, expand this world in some future dlc's, I cant take it anymore. Honestly Im in shock that bioware, creators of a 2 games that allow you to explore the effing Milky Way galaxy, would create such a small and repetative environment. WTF Bioware, we're fighting. I think you need to actually visit the characters in their homes and do their quests if you want to have a chance to care about them. (I'm assuming you haven't done that, or much other side content since you are already more than a third of the way through the game.)

hes not talkin about romance, hes talkin about just talking to ppl and in this game, that is SERIOUSLY lacking. in the first one you could converse with each character between each mission. so far ive done half the story missions in the first act and ive only been able to converse with one person twice.

Liking it a lot. Especially the gameplay and the feel of the characters. Each companion feels to me like they're their own people, although I wish I could see companions visiting each other outside of cutscenes, or maybe hang out with multiple companions at once.

Two-handed warrior combat makes me feel like a juggernaut. Hella-quick, and when I hit people hard enough they stagger/go flying. Really captures my interest.

One thing I don't really enjoy. I can't click on my companions and have a convo with them like I could before. I would actually like to click on my companion and get their thoughts as I did with Morrgian and Leiana in Dragon Age Orgins, another thing I'm not fond of.

The quests in orgins seem so orgazined, you had to go to each town for a goal to gain their support and build an army slowly building up to the end. I'm running around doing different random quests, yes their are choices on what to say but the quests are so short, I don't really have time to build up suspense to a big choice, it's just kinda over quickly

I just played for 12hrs....and Its 3am so I will try to be coherent but I make no promises. I like the companions, they've even surprised me a few times. I genuinely didn't think my Hawke would get along with Aveline but apparently we're BFF now. I've really been enjoying the game and i've found that things that I thought would bother me aren't really bothering me at all i.e companions w. unchangeable armor etc.

I am sort of bothered however by the fact that I can't chat up my companions whenever I want, it's unfortunate that in my 12hrs of playing I only really got a few in depth conversations with each of them. But it actually only feels like a minor complaint because I'm still enjoying the experience of having them with me. I really like that they interact with one another not just in banter but visiting each other's houses. In particular the Merrill and Isabella friendship is really sweet and it's fun getting to drop in on those little scenes. Over all my little brain is overloaded with information and i'm coming down off the energy drink high so I should get few hours of sleep.

In reference to my playing so far in the game I have to day that I am having a wonderful time.
There are, however, some valid points that if possible, Mr. Graff could address?

1) LOVE the character class choice screen, very Diablo 2-esque.
     - Question: Why is it on the character creation screen, one cannot change the default 'hawke' in reference to things like hair colour/style and eye colour? :(

2) In reference to party member interaction:
     - Question: Why can we not 'talk' to them as we did in DAO? It was very cool to be able to address party members and get their input on the current situation, location, etc. It added a richer development and social interaction, making one actually feel as though the party members were individuals and not just backup hired hands with no personality.

3) I REALLY love how fast paced the fighting is in this new game. Some people complain about how fast the fighting is, but seriously... if one is in a fight, realtime, there is no preplanning. There is no well-thought strategy. There is only reactive fighting and muscle memory from ingrained training. I'm personally playing a mage [considering my warden was a blood magus/arcane warrior] since that is what I am most comfy with, and the way she was trained in bojutsu and the fire off those spells from that bo staff is amazing! :o

4) I have to say I am really disappointed with the way the Elven situation turned out. I saw on the forums what ended up 'coaxing' you all to redesign the Elven look, but I personally think they looked fine in DAO and would have been fine had they looked the same in DA2.  :(

Overall so far I really like the product, but this is just my opening remarks.

So far, I love it.

Combat, just as good as I expected

I like how in the character creation, widening the chin doesn't make the female Hawke freakish, cheeks are very much improved from Origins and Mass Effect. Overall, pretty much the whole system is better, except tattoos are pretty bland and it is hard to see most the colors

There are severe pc-performance problems which really seem to affect the nvidia users the most. Some benchmarks show that the new Ati 6990 card has more than double the fps than a 580gtx SLI configuration. Which is pretty sad really, games preferring certain video card brands aside, no game should give you such a difference between cards from the same end, not even unpatched.

This combined with the fact that the high res texture pack was finished too late to be put in the retail copy and other signs that show quantity over quality and I think it's safe to say that this game should have gotten way more development time. I don't mind the new combat system, I think I even prefer it actually and I admire BioWare trying to reinvent that part, but this game just feels like it has suffered from a shortage of development time, technically, gameplay-wise and story-wise. I hope BioWare and especially EA can see the mistakes they're making, but I doubt it, looking at all the 8 and 9 reviews floating around. I think it's a shame really, since I feel this game has wasted a great potential.

I'm now a little over 9 hours in.  The writing is simply fantastic.  I am doing almost purely sarcastic responses, and one line actually made me shoot soda out of my nose (on account I was laughing).  I'd list which one, but I really don't like spoilers (if you really wanna know just PM me).  The combat is actually getting deeper as I level.  If you just mindlessly button mash, you won't get far even on normal.  Really well done so far.  I'm suprised by some of the companion story missions, its making me actually like certain characters I never thought I would (such as Avaline).  Anyway back to playing more DAII

While I can't comment on the PC issues (since I'm playing it on 360), I strongly disagree with you.  I can tell that each quest has been highly polished in both terms of story and how they play out.  I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a LONG time.  Hope things turn around for you :).

My thoughts so far? I'm 8 hours in and its decent, not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be.

But I'm calling it right now:

Flemeth is Lord Voldemort.

I love the combat system. I love the gorgeous graphics, and the character editing in-game. I do *not* love the revamping of the quest system. I do not love the lack of character/relationship development and the hilarious companion interactions from DAO.
I love the variety of mage weapons/equipment so glaringly absent in DAO, but the armor cannot be changed on companions, which I can't appreciate.
It's not bad overall, but I am not as attached to the characters or the storyline as I was with DAO and it's DLC (as well as the books by Gaider).

Dude, right? I was just telling my cousin a little while ago that the amulet/ dalish/ flemeth situation kinda felt like a HP:6 rip-off.

Running an i7-930 2.8 GHz, 6Meg 1600 RAM with an ATI-5970: performance is smooth and flawless, graphics wonderful.

I am surprised at the freedom of action I am finding, having expected a story-on-rails I find the freedom to pursue my course remarkable. I have played probably 9 hours on various characters to get familiar with the controls and discover my optimum game, normal difficulty.

There was a bug before I reached my 'special delivery' chest and after picking up Aveline at the Viscount's fortress: she appeared to still have her original sword/Wesley shield equipped in inventory but in combat was fighting bare-fisted. This resolved once I gave her Fadeshear, but it was disconcerting for a few battles until I reached my special items chest.

All-in-all to this point I would rate the game easily at a 9 on a 1-10 scale.

...And not to be weird, but I think I could fall in love with Merrill were she real and a companion in life... and attracted to older gentlemen like me.Image IPB

Completed the incomplete game. Mediocre. First Dragon Age was better. First Dragon Age took long years to develop but game was very good and complete. And now seems Bioware decided to make money additionaly by selling upcoming DLCs addons... i guess my expectations were high.

I love it so far but one thing that is killing me.

Why in God's name did you have to make Anders whiny. It is like Allister the Sequel. I had to reload my save before I complete the beginning of the Deep Roads so I can leave someone at home.
