Just picked up the game at the midnight launch, and fired it up as soon as I got home. But immediately there was an issue with the dialogue, specifically that there wasn't any. I've tried everything I could think of but basically there's no sound coming from any of the characters, except random battle grunts.

Tried playing with subtitles, but they don't load very well. Consequently I just got to Kirkwall and have no idea what's going on. Any ideas on how I can manually fix this?

I have the same issue. It almost seems like it's trying to play 5.1 sound on my stereo tv speakers. tried messing with ps3 settings but didnt work. I plugged headphones into my tv and that didn't work either.

I hear sound effects, music, but dialogue is non existent. For Cut-scenes and the intro movie when shes talking to the dwarf.

If I crank my tv's volume up, I can actually hear the voices but its soo quiet and there is an echo like distortion on it. My guess is it would be support sound from the left and right speakers if this was 5.1? not sure about that though.

Any help on this? would REALLY like to play this game....

*edit for spelling*

Yes that's exactly the problem I'm having. But I've got the slim ps3 with all the updates.

I have the Slim 160gb and so far audio/dialog is fine, there have been a few dialogs that may have been cut short but nothing too bad as of yet.

Same here. I've only played through the beginning as yet, but the dialogue is un hearable unless I jack up my tv volume and turn the music and sfx down low

Has anyone tried getting a replacement disk from Gamestop or wherever? If so did it work or is it an issue with the system?

FIXED!

here is what I did. I went to [settings] in my PS3 menu, selected "audio multi-output" and turned that to "on" then I clicked "Audio output settings" and selected "hdmi" ---> "automatic" then I started up the game and got sweet, sweet dialogue.

Hope this works for all of you

I have the same issue and also had the problem with the demo.  I believe it may have to do with those of us who have older DD 5.1 receivers.  Here is my current setup:

PS3 Slim => HDMI out to Sony XBR7
Sony XBR7 => optical out to Harman Kardon AVR85

The H/K receiver is DD 5.1 only (no DTS support).  However when playing DA2, it is pushing out PCM 2 channel through the optical connection.  The result is obviously no surround sound and loss of voice channel.

The quick and temporary fix is to disable DD 5.1 support in the PS3 sound settings and force the audio to go through PCM 2 channel. This brings back the missing voice audio.  So much for surround sound......

None of this worked for me, i played with the settings for about 2 hours  and im still getting the same problem.

I have a 120hert insignia HD LCD TV if that helps any.

Nearok, go into the PS3 audio settings and select manual, then disable DD 5.1. Make sure only PCM 2 channel (stereo) is the only item checked. Try it out. That's the only fix that worked for me since it basically forces the audio to 2 channel stereo.

I am using the slim version; I am a few hours into the game and I noticed that are few times, the voices in the cutscenes went so quiet.

Mine was fine for about 16 hours, now the dialog track is missing (or horribly mixed with echo at -40dB?). I've got it hooked up to a Samsung HW-C500, never had a problem with another game.

I've got a fat PS3, all updates installed.

PS3 --HDMI-> HW-C500 --HDMI -> Samsung 40" LCD
