I don't see an option for it in the configuration utility.

If running on Windows 7 you can put your save games here:

C:\\Users\\[username]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Characters\\[character name]\\Saves\\

After the scene with Badass Hawke where Varric gets called on his BS during the character customization, there's an import option.

The option is inside character creation.

Sorry, we misread your post. Yes, you need to pass through the fake blightlands at get to where you can customize your character (its called CharGen2 internally) - in here youll see an import option. When you click on that it will look for saves in the folder Rob specified earlier.

So let me get this straight: If I have already started the game, it is too late to import a save from DA:O, correct? I am getting ready to go to the Deep Roads.

Yes that is far too late. The import feature is found within the character customization screen, where you can set your appearance and name and what not. It's under the History header

Thanks, this thread was very helpful. I saved all my old DA:O files, but couldn't figure out how to get them to import into DAII. Was pulling out my hair. Everyone was just like "There they are!" I had to remake all those folders Rob mentioned since I'd reformatted since playing DA:O (it has been a couple years).
