thanks for getting back to us Nat! :) I hope that it can be fixed on single core machines. I been playing the game fine with no problem (auto save off) So I know my 1 core pc can run the game. It doesn't make sense that 1 core would cause it not to save.

I just met the Qunari guy from the trailer after hours of playing before Windows decided to update itself and reboot. Couldn't save game anyway lol, but it was a blast to play... So I'll be hoping for a fix soon..Thanx

There are a whole lot of us who are in the same boat as Nicademas . Our computers play the game with no problem except for the save issue . Surely it can be fixed for all of us single core players . Pretty please !!

"Open the task manager, then press Alt V, then press C.
There should be two options to show how to display the core usage record.
If there is only one (grey out) option, then it means only one core is functioning"

I'm playing on a quad-core system and it is showing that only one core is functioning.....so how do I fix that?

I dusted off my wife's old single core machine and was able to reproduce the problem last night.

The problem is the game cannot save. This presents itself as three symptoms:
--You get a perpetual "saving" spinner on the right.
--Your save + load options are greyed out in the "escape menu"
--You will hang on the next transition after a save is attempted (which for most people is at the end of the blightlands, because the initial autosave is still trying to save).

Programming is working on the problem now. I don't have an ETA on a fix, but we have been able to recreate it, which means we can work on fixing it now.

Thanks . Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

If you have a single core and want to experience more of the game before they send out a fix.. you can disable music to get past the kirkwall loading screen.

I beleive it frees up the primary core to load the level instead of using primary for music and then laoding the level on the second.. or something like that.

Regardless it does allow you to play everything just fine with the exception of loading, which still won't work until the fix.

Does not work for me.  I disabled the music before the I ran it the first time and it still locked up.  I had to disable auto-save and that let me play until I tried to save.

hrm.. weird, that's how i got mine to work.  I disabled all audio in an attempt to get save to work but it seems we still have to wait for the fix.  :pinched:

We still need patch. Even on quad-core game uses only one. Dancings with a tambourine don't help

try to be patient.. Nathen said its being worked on.... so .. wait for his update again... it takes more then a few minutes to fix a problem. It gets Identified, then tested to see if they can recreate, sent to programer with code fixes / or have programer help with that, then then role out a test patch in house to get retested, before it is added to a patch release. Here it has only been a day for them to work on it..... They will do it... or else us gamers will unleash the Darkspawn on them....

If you have a multi-core machine, please check to see if the game is actually using them. Please see the post made by another user in one of the other threads:

I have a triple-core processor and had the 'no save' problem initially too. Then I used an outside program (CPU Control) and found that my machine was only using a single processor to play the game. Once I used CPU Control to 'force' the game to use multiple processors, the saving problem went away for me... I realize this doesn't help the folks with single core processors, but it might be an alternative for some dual+ core gamers to waiting around for a patch/fix...

It's been a few hours now, Nathan. Is there any update on when we might expect the hotfix?

Wouldn't push him about it they know the problem and are working on it now if he had an ETA I am sure he would give it to us. Its hard to give an eta on these kinda things never really sure what could go wrong in fixing it and if you give a time and that time expires people are gana be even more mad so its best to just take it as it gos. We all hope it will be soon but there doing their best to fix it for us as fast as they can.

Just adding one more "this is my exact problem" to the list. Single-core processor too. Oddly my sister with an older laptop has hers working just fine, sigh. Can't not save (can't alt-tab at all, even adjusting the volume crashes this and DA:O) so I guess I have to wait. Really glad now I didn't let myself get hyped up, because I can only play two hours a day anyway with two jobs :P Maybe I'll finally finish Awakening in the meantime...

I loaded it on my school laptop and it's playing slower, but at least it's playing and saving. Our main desktop is single core, but my school laptop is dual. I'm going to limp through on my laptop until a patch allows me to play on a huge screen with kick-ass speakers. ;)

Thanks for your attention to this, Nathan. We appreciate it!

Me and my friend are having the same problem. How ever we disabled the auto save we could get past the loading screen of death. Also we cannot save or load.

However, the only problem we have is figuring out if are computers have more then one processors. I have looked around and we have the same processor of Intel® Celeron 900 @ 2.20 GHz. We same saying it duo some saying single. I have a Toshiba Satellite C655-5049 and she has a Compaq Presario CQ60-615DX. We have tried using task manager to check no luck. Even used the DA2 Configuration and its says 1 core for each us. Expect have sites telling us different. So any help would be greatful. Also if we do have 2 processors how do we activite them? Some posted an outside program named I looked it for it and nothing. I also messaged them. Also, I am well aware that even mutliplte processors are having trouble saving the game.

Yeah. Can't get past the load after the "the champion went to kirkwall" cinematic.

- Windows 7
- ATI Mobility Radeon 4200
- 8.01.01.1123
- DirectX 9 (11 crashed the game before the loading sequence)
- RAM:  3.00 GB
- microprocessor: AMD Sempron M120

---
I've tried everything: updating drivers, updating BIOS, turning off autosave, not running extra programs, using super low settings - I even disabled all sound/music, all superficial visual effects, and anything else I had the option to disable and I ran it in 800 x 600 window mode.
In addition I found a time when you can "save" before that loading screen. It is called "Outside Lothering" and it is in the very beginning after character creation. But that save file isn't "saved" in the game. I have the digital download from ea download manager.

So... Do I have to wait 2 months just to play the game?
Don't take this the wrong way. But it's really aggravating and frustrating.
