Like all of us on here, we paid full price for a game that we want to play. In return, we need communication from Bioware. Nathan, I think you have a pretty wide variety of hardware/software demographics to work with. So what's next?

Any information that you can provide will be beneficial. Even a "we are looking into it, but I won't have an update until tomorrow morning" would be something.

Thank in advance for your assistance.

We're looking into it.   While we do have access to a fairly large amount of hardware through EA, we don't have a huge selection in our building (compared to the sheer number of cards & boards that have been released in the last ~5 years anyhow).

We don't currently have any ETA/solution because we're still trying to get this to happen internally.   I'm personally taking the game home to try it on my wife's computer, as it is very similar to someone's specs above (it works fine on my computers at home and at work).   We don't know if it's specific to hardware, drivers, or some combination of both yet.

Tech support says that the Engineers are aware of the problem and suggest I wait (how long?) and login to the game later (how much?) and try it again. It runs fine with autosave off... So I'm going to play it on easy (since I can't save game without the spinning icon and frozen load screen again) until they fix it.. :(

Stopping the auto-save seems to work, at least temporarily. I've managed to get past the introduction campaign

Upgraded vid drivers to: nv4_disp.dll 266.58 [6.14.12.6658]

These are the latest from NVIDIA and didn't fix issue. As posted before, gameplay is near perfect for me.

Nathan, I do appreciate your replies and candor. As a developer in real life, I understand the importance of being able to re-create the issue as a means of finding a solution. I look forward to what you find out.

Man this is the first time I buy a PC game new in over 10 years, that isn't WoW, and I cant really play it. I guess I will be unlocking the DA:L Items before I play the game.

Windows 7 64-Bit
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
Driver version: 8.770.2.1000
DirectX 9
Processor: AMD V140, 2.3 GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM

Edit for addendum:

*Still no quick fix*

Okay, like some others, i disabled autosave.
So after the character creation, I was able to click on the Save option. When I did, it brought up the rotating save icon like before, and was there endlessly. I didn't continue playing through to the end of the prologue, knowing it would stay stuck in a "trying to save" state, and so not let me continue the game.

Starting to rage.
Back to Origins...

Forgot to mention, I installed on a slave drive. Not sure if that makes a difference, but it could if we are all doing that.

This is quite sad, this issue is with the game in general. I had gotten direct download from Direct 2 Drive. I hope they fix this quick.:( I also thought it was just taking a while to load but it has been going on for 20mins.

No slave drive for me. Regular harddrive.
Disc version, from Amazon

anyone yet try to troubleshoot if maybe the save issue is related to the game updating profiles to the BioWare Social site?

So we'll have to wait two more weeks to play the game we waited for, just so Bioware can fix a careless mistake?

gg bioware.

An unpleasant thought occurs...

If it's not a hardware issue, and other people can play the game without problems, perhaps it depends on a problem with a DLC item? With the DLC journal entries showing up at the very beginning, perhaps there's some problem with the way one (or more) of them are coded that causes a conflict within the save settings?

Just thinking out loud, seeing what others think of this idea. I don't claim expertise, but I've coded enough to know sometimes adding something can cause issues with an otherwise-working program.

My list of DLC (for comparison's sake):
Black Emporium
Boots of the Wastes
Of Things Not Lost
Blood Dragon Armor
Lothering's Lament
Far Cliffs of Kirkwall
Hayder's Razor
Staff of Parlathan

Interesting thought. I'm not sure which DLC's I have exactly, but I know I have some, and I do get the unlock pop-ups when I get past the character customization (where if autosave is enabled, the looping starts for me).

I tried turning it off, didn't work.  Also checked storage options and tried switching, but saving settings didn't change it.  Always as my C drive.

Okay, so I did the .ini work around and that will let you start the save process manually, but results in the same save loop if you quick or save from the menu. Being nosy, I looked at the player content folders and this is what I found. In DA:O or DA:A, in the my docs\\bioware\\Dragon Age\\Character folder, this is a folder for a character by name and a sub folder containing the saves.

In DA:II, I get the character folder for the character I create, but no saves sub-folder even if I have initiated a save with the work around. To me, that would point to something that is inhibiting the save portion of the program before it even initiates. It does make me wonder if this could be related to the DRM.

Just an interesting note: My girlfriend and I are both playing, and she is having this problem. While she's on her eternal loading screen, I'm able to log in with her EA account and start a game on my computer.
Is it normal to have 2 logins on one ID, or would that normally boot one of them?

So how long do you guys give Bioware until they fix this?
I'm giving them six months and I'll throw this game away.
Yes, I am exaggerating. Yes, I am mad. No, I'm not really going to throw this game away.
But this game is staring at me. Taunting me. It's staring at me and I can't pick it up and play it because of stupid launch bugs like this.
I know this is a pointless rant, but I can't help myself when careless mistakes like these ruin my chance to play the game I've been waiting for six months. It's pure, utter, bull****.
Bioware, I'm sorry. You didn't lose a customer. I'm just mad. I'm just venting. I just really hope you fix this problem. You'll not only make me happy, but everyone in this thread happy.

@ineverfailz: Confirmed. It doesn't even start to make a folder for the save file for me either. No UAC issues, I've tried it with it enabled and disabled to no avail. No virtual drives, no flash drives/card readers, though it is worth noting that I was having a different error as well, upon the initial connection to the bioware servers when starting the game it was looking for a nonexistant drive and saying 'cannot load somethingorother.' Solved that by disabling an invalid 1.44" floppy drive in the bios.
Maybe the two are related? Either way, I've tried this with my account and my girlfriend's and it's definitely specific to her hardware. Both of our accounts work fine on the other computer.
Problem PC:
Windows 7,
Athlon 64 3200+
ATI Radeon HD 4600 (agp)
4gb ram
