I'm having the same problem on my machine. I had actually played two hours into the game and gotten all the way into Kirkwall (the actual city mind you, right when I met Varric) and discovered this little problem. More than mildly grating, to put it lightly. Ran perfectly excepting ye olde spinny emblem of death in the side of the screen. At first I thought it was a problem with the "save automatically" thing, but it's the same for regular saves too. And the really weird thing is that the spinny emblem persists even to the main menu after I exit the game. At that point I can't adjust the save automatically function.
Cant get past loading screen.

Yea, same problem myself. To be honest it's a bit annoying, was trying to tweak it a few times and each time had to redo the intro... Can't save and can't get to kirkwall, and to think i was so determined to buy this game today. Might as well have waited

Horrified by the lack of love on this. First time pre ordering a bioware game, I expected it to work

not saving is a pretty big problem x_x specially in an rpg like this one. I've thought about trying it but there's just so much different stuff I wanna do and say I run into another problem like it crashes or something x_x

Right, I tried a couple of things:
Sound off
Autosave off
Intro movies off
Don't import DA:O
Changing graphics res
Not logged into account
Using the default character and not a tailored one
Nothing works. As soon as I save the game, the spinning loop appears and persists even back on the main screen.
I can get past the loading screen to Kirkwall (and further on) by tapping CTRL-TAB and the start button a lot. But I'm not playing a RPG without a save option.
Differential logic tells us its not a demo related problem (I didn't have it) and not a single core problem (see people with multi-core procs).
Does EVERYONE have the dlc items?

I'm not having any trouble saving on a Quad-Core but I just lost like a whole days auto-saves when the game was trying to auto-save as I entered a new area and locked up for the first time since I started playing. The only saves I've got left in my save folder are literally four levels back and 5 hours ago.
Hopefully they get this fixed soon.

I do indeed have the DLC stuff pretty much all the stuff you can get for it. We have ruled nearly everything else out why not.

Given that most people getting it today would have pre-ordered, it's certainly worth considering.

How many people have sent a report to bioware on this? I recall at lest a few near the start of this thread saying they have but never heard back from them just wondering seeing as how this forum is general a self help thing I havnt bothered reporting assuming that many already have maybe I am wrong in this thinking. In any event if you have please tell us if you have heard anything x_x

I sent a message to them. They said they were working on it.
I am still playing the game. it definately seems to be a saving problem. I made it to meeting fenris fine... I just wish I had gotten to save.

Yes... I know. I still want to play it and get the hang of it. I have played DAO over and over again... This one.. I just get to play and not save for now.

I noticed when i play the game without saving, i keep my achievements i earned. Dont know if the achievements are saved on the servers and not the PC but that would make sense why the achievements stay while your progress is lost
#198
Posté 09 mars 2011 - 09:56
Yep, achievements are saved in my case as well.
Additional note - a Dragon Age 2 data folder appears in My Docs, with a Characters folder and even with a folder for the char I generated (pics) but no save games.

I have the same problems. Whether there is a sense then to play now if clearly that all progress will be lost until patched
