Kind of a paradox there, customize default, but bear with me.

I like the default female Hawke. Is there a way to get default Hawke, but change the eye color or skin tone or hair color? It seems like the sliders are greyed out when I pick the default one. Do I really need to start a character from scratch and make the default Hawke the way I want?

The default hawke wasn't made with the character creator, so the only customization is the red blood streak across hawke's nose.

There needs to be a way to make one of the presets LOOK like default female Hawke. I really want to use it, too.

Yeah, I kinda wish I could start working from the default Hawke setup too. I find it's easier than creating a new face from scratch (since my own creations probably turn out awful anyway)

Especially the hair. I really wanted to use her hair for my character. None of the other styles worked for me. Shame Bioware, shame. Giving us a prebuilt character using 'exclusive features' not available to the custom builds is not cool.

I agree.  I would love, love to use the preset female Hawke's hair on a customized character.  It's perfect!  I was hoping that somehow I was sliding the hair options to fast and skipping that particular model.  Alas, it seems that's not the case.

Like Nick_Nitro said, I'm not exactly good at building a decent face without any good preset, and I like how the FemHawk's default preset is shaped. x.x

I just want to use the default male Hawke but make him bald. After playing the demo so many times the voice is attached to the face. I really don't want to change anything else besides the hairstyle.

My question is this... I don't WANT to use the default Hawke and would rather create my own face. But the problem is that the default character is the only one I can select. Does anyone know how I can create my own appearance?

You need to slide the 'Preset' slider over two notches and then you can modify all the other sliders.

What I don't get is was it really that hard to allow us to use the blood smear on the nose for our custom character?

Forgive me if that gets added on during the story since I'm still in Act I but that's the only facial marking that looks even remotely cool.

I just want to like change the hair color or the style or the eye colors or add tattoos to the preset Hawke faces. I agree it's a shame. And one of the presets for a male wouldn't let me remove the facial hair.

Same, I love the default female hawk hairdo. I was disappointed they didn't allow that as an option, but that wasn't the only thing disappointing to me about DA2, so it just figures.

There are mods on dragonagenexus that lets you change default Hawke as well as use the default Hawke hair on other presets.

I like the custom Hawke a lot too. The only reason I don't use it is because it's the "custom Hawke". Everyone wants their own look, I know I do. This is the same thing for Mass Effect's "custom Shepard", at least the male model. It's a Bioware thing.

I can't complain though. You have to admit, Bioware did in fact hook us up with a lot of very cool new hairstyles. Well, at least I think so. So yeah, if you're playing DA2 on console you're out of luck. For you PC users, that know how to use mods safely, bluecapsule6 said it all, Dragonagenexus.
