FIRST OFF, Shale is a she, or at least WAS a she.

And she is amazing! I built her defense/archery up. Chuck a rock at um, then grab all the aggro and instant win!

To bad the dumb b**** betrayed me and all of dwarfdom.

Your fault for siding with the morally questionable Branka and wanting to use Caridin's even more morally questionable method of creating Golems.

I love shale as she reminds me of HK47 from kotor. Dog is also a good party memmber, but my bigest problem with them both is lack of party slots :)

I hate leaving chest unlocked so a rogue is guaranteed a slot in any of my partys, a mage is also guarenteed a slot, then a tank (Me on this run) which leaves me with 1 space and most of the time i do like a 2nd mage :(

Would so love a 5 party limit.
Too many party members not enough party slots! :)

Shale is badass healthy! Dog is well... um... Ok, so both are cool and stuff, but I prefer Shale over my cutey-beauty puppy-waffy because of Shale's awesome abilities. But then again, I want an even more awesome army at my side facing the darkspawn so I chose to kill the living hell out of "Big Space Marine" armor (Caridin) and Shale. Branka is morally questionable. But that's what I want in a woman anyway!

Ah good, I wasn't the only one reminded of Astartes Terminator armour when I saw Caridin.

And, when I called Branka morally questionable, I was under-exaggerating, she's bats**t insane.

Dog's a great mage/rogue killer, but kind of meh against heavily armored enemies.

Though if you have an archer with Shattering Shot/warrior with Sunder Armor his damage jumps up a good bit even on armored things.

I think its in the mage tower, not sure. But you get an awesome collar and warpaint from the same chest, the paint is like 20 or 30 physical resistance and the collar is 7 armor and 7 damage or something. My dog was a machine after I got those :D. Also, overwhelm and the aoe stun are lifesavers :)

I would love it if someone who really understands Shale would put out a Guide on how to use her well in the game. When do you use the orange row? How about an actual fight/circumstance in which you apply the Stoneheart row, etc. etc. I hear so many rave about her, it would be nice to have some "real" examples of how you use her skills...I'm such a newbie to all this, I'm just now figuring out how to use a Mage properly.

I use Shale when I have a ranger in party.

Shale charges into enemies, taunts once, and then turns to the aura mode.

While she is paralysed, I still have 4 members (including ranger pet) that benefit from the aura.

Shale has siek buffs for Archery characters. I use the "Extra Dog Slot" addon so I can keep dog and have a viable party.

I personally didn't like Shale much compared to a regular tank (Alistair) or 2 hander most of the game, whne playing with a mage or thief. HOWEVER, since usually the best weapons go to your main char in the end of the game shales best crystals are nearly competative with those and better than "left overs" the others got. Especially the insane regen on the best nature crystal made her a perfect tank with good damage once I had that.

My favourite playthroughs are with my mage, Shale, Alistair, and Dog. I snatch Shale up quickly (zone through Lothering, pick up Shale, return) and so I have a very nice Run Over Anything That Stands Between Me and Loghain team. Alistair tanks, I'm an AW so I hit things in between healing the party, Dog distracts/stuns and Shale will go after bigger targets and just beat the snot out of them. Battles tend to be short and to the point- which I like.

I think it all depends on who you are. IF you need a good (off-)tank you can't beat Shale. All that con and str, I mean really? For my mage, Shale is a must have. I haven't tried rogue yet but with my warrior, I'm trying to compete with a golem for dsp who is scoring upwards of 100 per hit.

The dog is possibly one of the most useless characters ever. Apart from overwhelm it really doesn't do much for you and has no banter. Gets you cool things but that's i t.

Shale's best attribute is that he has two party-friendly AOE incapacitates... the bellow stun, and the earthen grasp.

I've never liked Dog either... he takes a bit too much abuse because of lack of super-gear and doesn't have the defensive talents of Shale.

Dog and Shale own whiney alister. Funner to play, die less and more amusing. Sorry ladies.

I found each character if used and equipped right is deadly, but if there was one i would say dog never used him after ostagar. Shale is a freaking beast aside from my tank after awakening.
