Quite simply let me state this to the OP :
You may be a long-time customer of BioWare and work in the industry but quite frankly on these or any other forums --they matter NOTHING.

That said I've been playing BioWare games from Baldur's Gate 1 and haven't missed any. What you simply have to expect is that everything evolves. You can't expect games like Baldur's Gate to come out in an era where gaming has become as commercialized and widespread as now. You have to expect games that will have toned-down elements that are easy to understand for everyone.

There is a generation gap in gaming as well. You my friend might be experiencing something exactly of that sort.
If you recall, Baldur's Gate or any Infinity Engine RPG for that matter be it Torment or Icewind Dale were looked upon with disgust by some of the very old-school pen-and-paper D&D enthusiasts. They felt that by adding action and real-time elements they diluted the very essence of D&D. They couldn't see the beauty but we could.
For them Infinity Engine RPGs were "toned down" or "dumbed down" from what they believed D&D stood for.

Fast-forward 11 years and you'll find you and some of the other "veteran PC gamers" in those same shoes today. Just like anything you've got two options :"Embrace the evolving genre and learn to enjoy it" or "leave those games alone". It's frankly as simple as that.

Stop using gimmick phrases like evolution with regard to new titles in a series, not all 'changes' are evolution. Some take a good game and make it great while others take a great game and make it nothing more than a steaming pile of turd and if your idea of evolution is end result turd then I feel sorry for you.

The reason why people should complain and voice opinions is so that doesn't happen to something they loved to play. Which has happened here I cannot say with DA2 because I don't have a copy yet but the only thing you said that I agree on is if turns out to be not a direction I want them to go based on the original game they profitted so very much from being a specific genre and containing so much freedom and choice... Then I will no longer buy from them, much as I have with Squeenix for ruining FF and Front Mission and 2K for destroying X-Com.

Neither of them will recieve my money anymore. IF DA2 does turn into steaming pile or **** then same will apply for Bioware however I will state again "I have no idea what it is like until I play it so won't say they ruined it or improved it yet" but I will say they have ****ed up with regard of auto attack by mistake during mastering process and the glitch major one regarding import progress through game completley ruining the experience imho. Both of which better be patched asap.
