I've been playing for about 5 hours now and got to a point that i thought i should probably save before preceding only to realize that the save and load buttons were faded out and i was unable to do either. I havent gotten any notifications about auto saving or anything either so im pretty sure my game hasnt been saved at all. Ive tried pressing F5 to quick save, and pretty much anything else i can think of and it wont let me save. I'de really rather not lose the last 5 hours of my time and have to start the whole game over.

Theres been a little grey circle rotating on the right side of my screen pretty much the entire time ive been playing and i havent really payed much attention to it, does this have something to do with it?

I dusted off my wife's old single core machine and was able to reproduce the problem last night.

The problem is the game cannot save. This presents itself as three symptoms:
--You get a perpetual "saving" spinner on the right.
--Your save + load options are greyed out in the "escape menu"
--You will hang on the next transition after a save is attempted (which for most people is at the end of the blightlands, because the initial autosave is still trying to save).

Programming is working on the problem now. I don't have an ETA on a fix, but we have been able to recreate it, which means we can work on fixing it now.

If you have a multi-core machine, please check to see if the game is actually using them.   Please see the post made by your fellow users:

I have a triple-core processor and had the 'no save' problem initially too. Then I used an outside program (CPU Control) and found that my machine was only using a single processor to play the game. Once I used CPU Control to 'force' the game to use multiple processors, the saving problem went away for me... I realize this doesn't help the folks with single core processors, but it might be an alternative for some dual+ core gamers to waiting around for a patch/fix...

Just to clarify, DA2 does not officially support single-core machines and was not designed with single-core machines in mind. We found and fixed a single-core save-game issue as a courtesy shortly after release but the minimum spec for the game remains dual-core or better. We have no plans to address further single-core issues at this time.

Sorry,
