As a Blood Mage I liked Avernus' robe through mid-game. I finally broke down and bought that expensive one in Denerim. And the Staff of the Magister Lords. Still wore the Libertarian cowl from Mages Tower quest, through til the end.

Why would you bother with expensive one in denerim unless your an arcane mage ? its totally worthless if your not Arcane.

Theres no best equipment for the class.. its all based on what kind of setup you go with..

Pfft , where did you even find +2 magic shoes? My mage is lvl 20 and still has boots from the start of the game with +1 magic on them lol

It's in the storage room in the circle i think..just somewhere during the origin. Unless i'm wrong and it happens to be +1 too? I'll go check haha lol I guess there isn't that many shoes for mages.. :( or equipment..

I'm also greatly disappointed on all the cool looking staves the evil mages had(Keeper guy of the Dalish, Mage in Soldier's Keep, Slave driver in denerim) WHILE WE HAD SH**** ONES, it's either a stick or that lack luster staff irving has.. Except for wynnes staff but GAHH.

Actually, other than the AOE Blood Magic spell (3rd tier), I didn't use hardly any BM at all. Most of it wasn't that impressive TBH. Sometimes I'd use the BM puppeteer spell on an enemy boss... And I'd use that spell you get from Alvernus' alchemical concoction... That's about it though.

Many of the entropy spells felt more "evil" to me than the BM spells, so I used more of those.

Not sure why everyone thinks being a Blood Mage means you can ONLY use blood  to power your spells...?  Simply not true (nor efficient).

Switch back and forth between mana and blood/health.  I usually just activate Blood Magic to hit those particular spells or if mana is really low...  Otherwise, use mana.

And BTW, if you are playing 'evil,' you can get a decent staff ("Blackened Heartwood" IIR) in the origin levels in the Mages Tower.  I kept it through mid-game...  Even gave that other 'Winter Staff' (don't remember name or where you get it; radiates cold though) to Morrigan.

You must be joking... Blackened Hearwood staff is pretty much worthless/replaceable early in the game.  You do realize that where it says "Spellpower: #" in the stats (not green stats) that it GIVES you that much spellpower.  This is in addition to the green stats.  Basically, a tier 1 staff gives 1 spellpower and a tier 7 staff gives 7 spellpower... by default.  Wintersbreath(+10 Spellpower), Winter's Breath (+7) (yes there are 2 of them), and Staff of Magister Lords(+13) are all the best staves in the game by far.  Unfortunately, 2 out of 3 of those are only found on merchants and only 1 you can get for free (the weakest of the 3).  Magister's staff is also decent.

That being said... if you get Staff of Magister Lords (+13 Spellpower), Spell Wisp (+10 Spellpower), and Spell Might (+16 Spellpower) you can end up with well over 100 spellpower at around level 15-16 or so even if you didn't put all your points into just Magic leveling.

Don't remember the stats.  Thinking the defense and mana regen were good though...?

Don't remember the stats, nor how long I kept it.  But I know I didn't immediately switch to Winter'sBreath for awhile...

Also, as for any that give magic... there are very few things that are based directly on the Magic stat. I think only damage when using Combat Magic (yes it is actually based on Magic and not Spellpower like the tooltip says... I tested it). This means as far as stats go on staves... 1 Magic = 1 Spellpower. A tier 1-2 staff with +2 Magic is worse than a tier 5 staff. That is unless it has something like +10% of an element or something (one that you use).

mmmm if you mean arcane warrior that robe is not that usefull for them... one of the points of arcane warrior is to be able to wear armors for better protection... if you get arcane warrior and then use mage equip you are not playing much on the strong points of the specialization as a normal mage will have mostly the same defense

denerim expensive robe is actually pretty good for all mages, it offer solid defense stats and with earth armor you get around 30 armor that is not bad at all, use other stuff that gives chance to evade attack and you end with a quite sturdy mage whitout to necessary go for arcane warrior (that anyway offers more protection but for a price)

the thing about that robe is mostly about taste... you want an offensive robe... you look elsewhere, you want a defensive one... that is the best, regardless of your build or specialization

goblin lord i have staff of magister lords spell wisp spell might and some other stuff so i could probably have over 100 spellpower, however the question is, is it a good idea?

i mean with bonuses i have over 60 willpower but still doesn't high spellpower make spells cost more mana?

and my spells are all AoE...except maybe fireball

though maybe high spellpower fireball is a good idea...
