Bug -- Not really game ruining, but annoying...

When my game connects to my online account, an error message pops up, saying that A drive isn't ready (open, etc.).  Then when I press the "Try Again" button, it goes ahead and connects and all is well after that... However, if I press "Cancel," the game will fail to login into my online account.

Since I can get past the error message, this doesn't ruin the game for me thus far, it's just... very annoying that it has happened every single time I open up the game.  Any ideas?

Do you have any virtual drives hooked up or any external drives? Basically anything that would constitute a drive of any kind that is not your HDD.

Not that I know of, but I can certainly check when I get home. Is there a way that one can look at what things are associated to whatever letter drives, so I can see what my computer is recognizing as the A drive? C drive is definitely my HDD. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate Ed. 64-bit.

Right click My Computer and select Manage. When that opens, under storage check both Removable Storage and Disk Management.

Also receiving this error. Windows 7 HP 64bit with no virtual drives, just 3 internal hard drives and a dvdrom. Game is installed on the D: HDD. Like others, not game breaking as it'll continue on after a few 'try again's or 'continue's.

We'll try to track it down internally but so far all we have to go on is that you both have x64 OSs, which is a fairly weak correlation. If you can think of anything else that would make your PCs unique over someone elses or simply provide DXDIAGs we can hopefully narrow down the issue.

My copy is a 32-bit version of Windows 7 by the way. I also don't have any external drives or anything like that.

If it helps I also had the same problem when I played the demo.

That's weird, I didn't have the problem at all when I played the demo.

Well, since it's such a small inconvenience hopefully, for your sake, it affects more people so we can narrow down the cause. The problem with troubleshooting on PC is that there are so many variables especially when dealing with obscure issues.

And for anyone else this affects, the more details you can provide about your system or even installation, the better.

Hey Mr.Luke.

I found a way to reproduce 100%.

Changing my DX renderer to DX9, I never get the drive pop-up.

If I change it to DX11, I get the drive pop-up.

I did so twice in a row and it seems to be causing the error message. I'll be testing a bit more to see if it's really the case or it's something else.

Ah, the joy of PC Gaming! Troubleshooting.

(system)
W7 64bit not SP1
5870
4GB RAM
i5-750

Nothing else is connected to the PC. 1 HD, no RAID, no SSD.

Actually, I could see the Dx11 being an issue. When I get home I will test it myself to try and confirm it. Also, my Windows 7 installation is SP1 so it's definitely nothing to do with win7 SP.

Assuming noone confirms this occurring on DX9 then we have somewhere to start. My next question would be how did you guys get the game? Digital Download (if so from where?) or Retail Box copy?

Retail copy, SE.  And I will try to reproduce this when I get home.  I also do not have Direct X 11, I have Direct X 10, Nvidia GTX 295 video card.  I also have the hi-res textures on.

Playing with Directx 9, I did not have the issue. I have this issue with Directx 11 only. I have Windows 7 64bit. I got the game from EADM. Two 1GB ATI 5870 cards interconnected with Crossfire.

Alrighty, this makes no sense.

DX9 - Windowed mode = Open Drive pop-up
DX9 - FullScreen = No pop up

DX11 - Windowed mode = Open Drive pop-up
DX11 - FullScreen = Open Drive pop up

Is something seriously screwed up?

In my device tray, I see One Floppy Disk Drive and one CD Drive which are not present on my PC. There's nothing connected to the Floppy Connector or any CD. Just a DVD drive.

Restarted and Floppy Drive(:A) is still there. That's the one that seemed to be checked when running DAII.

See, I don't even have a floppy drive at all.  My computer was custom built without one, but is there a chance that you have the floppy drive enabled?  I think there's a way to shut it off in BIOS, or even through Vista/Win7.

Whats weird is that I have no drive A at all on my pc. Why would it even be looking for it?

Try what this suggests and report your result:

Luke Barrett wrote...

Right click My Computer and select
Manage. When that opens, under storage check both Removable Storage and
Disk Management.

PCs can be so fickle, it's really strange that a graphical issue would be tied in with that.

Nothing else but my main partition and the system reserved Hard Drive space.

Floppy is showing up under device manager though.

Edit: Ran another test, unmounted one extra PowerISO Drive. Ran DX11 again and still got the pop-up. Maybe we really need a Floppy to run it! :D

Not to run the game, but to oddly connect to the internet... Madness!

Even after making the change from DX11 to 9 and creating a Firewall exception, I still get the disc pop up. Downloading my content manually, but a fix would be awesome.
